Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”You sleep so much, should I blame your poor stamina or praise you for fully satisfying my male ego?” he joked with her in a good mood, his voice tender like water over the phone, but his gaze was as sharp as a knife, scouring through all the documents, marking important places with a red pen.

It looked as glaring as the cinnabar used by emperors in ancient times when sentencing someone to death.

These years, Brian Yates has been managing the company. It would have been fine if he had handled it well, but he foolishly plunged into the financial market, collaborating with some investment firms. It’s like deliberately entering a gate to Inferno.

Tomorrow, tomorrow marks the start of a day of slaughter. Every stock, every futures he holds, is like a ticket to Inferno for him and the Yates Family.

Just one day, all it takes is one day to bring him down, not even two.

Joshua Hughes smiled and casually chatted with Avery Jane while closing the documents.

”I’m leaving work now. Do you want to go somewhere? I’ll accompany you for a walk.” She had been cooped up at home all day, surely feeling stifled. Taking her out for a stroll would be good right now.

”How about going to the movies?” Avery Jane contentedly ate a small bowl of rice. ”What did we used to do on our dates?” She wasn’t sure what they used to do, but watching a movie seemed like a good pastime at this moment.

”Anything works, you decide.” Joshua Hughes picked up the car keys from the table, closed the file, and walked out. The secretary swiftly stood up as she saw Joshua Hughes exit, watching his tall and majestic figure step into the elevator.

The secretary sent off Joshua Hughes and hurriedly picked up the phone to report Joshua’s whereabouts.

”Miss Yates, President Hughes has already left. He said he wanted to watch a movie today, but I’m not sure which theater. Also, he reviewed a lot of information about your maternal family today. You see...” She has disclosed several times Joshua Hughes’s whereabouts, even when he discreetly boarded the company’s chartered yacht, it was all her doing. Usually, she wouldn’t dare, but Evelyn Yates is already staying at Hughes Manor with her pregnancy prominently displayed, claiming her rightful place. To ensure Hughes Clan remains a thriving company, she needs to choose a sturdy branch for shelter, especially since Evelyn Yates has already promised her a promotion to head the administrative department once married. This was a significant incentive for her. Moreover, if she didn’t disclose Joshua Hughes’s whereabouts, she’d completely offend the high-status young lady, causing future workplace troubles. Fortunately, Joshua Hughes had not suspected her.

Going to the movies?

Evelyn Yates angrily gripped the phone, gnashing her teeth. She intended to tolerate it but couldn’t anymore. What did he think she was, just a tool?

A baby-producing tool?

Yesterday was her birthday. She waited all morning until after midnight, but didn’t even receive a call, let alone see him come home for her.

Avery Jane, that damned Fox Spirit, how shameless! She took her call and immediately hung up. She monopolized Joshua Hughes, completely blocking her from speaking to him. Later, every time she called again, it never connected. She had to vent this frustration, or she’d surely drive herself crazy. If she endured it for ten more months, she might die of anger before the baby was even born.

The cinema wasn’t crowded, yet the couple attracted many glances. The man was tall, embracing a demure girl. Their clothing was understated with no logos, but clearly carried an expensive aura. Several bodyguards followed closely behind.

Joshua Hughes held Avery Jane’s hand as they walked to the counter. ”What movie do you want to watch?”

He couldn’t understand why Avery Jane insisted on watching a movie at an outside cinema, but seeing her excited expression, he didn’t want to dampen her enthusiasm.

”Let’s watch a comedy.” Avery Jane pointed out, then glanced at the nearby snack counter, the smell of buttered popcorn enticing her. ”I’ll go get some snacks.” Happily, she headed to the counter, the bodyguards following at a discreet distance.

”One tub of popcorn, two cups of cola, also some sunflower seeds, potato chips...” She casually ordered a load of snacks. Joshua Hughes had already got the tickets, purchasing a whole four rows to ensure they wouldn’t be disturbed during the movie.
