Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”Was it you who sent someone to the cinema today?” Though it sounded like a question, the tone was firm and allowed no room for denial.

Evelyn instinctively averted her gaze, shaking her head, wanting to deny it, but she felt it was useless.

Joshua glanced at the secretary, who was trembling on the ground. A bodyguard stepped forward to untie the noodle binding the secretary’s mouth. Ignoring the numbness in his tongue and the pain at the corners of his mouth, the secretary cried out for mercy, ”President Hughes, I was forced. Miss Yates said if I didn’t do what she said, she would fire me once she married you. I was really forced to....”

Evelyn’s face turned ashen.

”Explain, what’s really going on?” Joshua disregarded Evelyn’s deathly pale face, coldly ordering the secretary.

”That time Miss Yates came to the company to find you, she ran into me and told me she wanted to track your movements because there were too many shameless girls out there trying to cling to you. Later, she gave me a diamond brooch and some money, totaling three hundred thousand. President Hughes, I didn’t want any of it. I didn’t want it. I had no choice. I feared she would fire me once she married you, so I only leaked a few instances, including the time on the cruise when Miss Yates called and asked me to go shopping. I really didn’t do it intentionally...” The secretary, seeing the dire situation, knew there was no way to hide anything and confessed everything.

It indeed had ties with the Yates Family. No one knew about what happened on the ship, except for some flower deliveries managed by the secretary. Damn it, they had even infiltrated his closest people. He had underestimated Evelyn’s mind.

”Miss Yates promised me that once the child is born and she regains her figure, she’ll wear the wedding dress and you two would marry. Then I would be transferred to the administration department as a manager. President Hughes, it was a moment of confusion and cowardice. I don’t dare anymore, President Hughes, I really don’t dare...” The secretary, trembling and sobbing, spoke.

During the secretary’s speech, Joshua watched Evelyn the entire time, his gaze like a knife slowly piercing through her once-confident eyes.

Evelyn clung to Joshua’s arm in a panic, tears flowing, ”Josh, I really didn’t do it on purpose, she’s lying, she volunteered to report your matters to me. She fancied my brooch and hinted at me; I just cared about you too much, don’t be angry...”

Joshua gave the bodyguard a look, and the bodyguard mercilessly pulled Evelyn away from Joshua.

”Let go of me, who do you think you are, such impudence...” Even at this moment, Evelyn couldn’t forget to put on the airs of a hostess.

The secretary looked at Evelyn, who appeared to be such a noble lady. How could she lie like this?

”President Hughes, I’m innocent, she’s lying, she’s lying...” The secretary, with tears and snot, pointed at Evelyn, lamenting.

”You are the one lying, being greedy and trying to push everything onto me?” Evelyn glared at the person who was more of a hindrance than a help, wishing to tear her apart.

By now, the secretary couldn’t care less, desperately yelling, ”It was you, you who claimed to be the future Young Madam of the Hughes Family. I just acted on your orders. It’s you who are jealous of Miss Jane. You said she was a widow who had lost her husband. You said President Hughes could be with any other woman, just not her because you found it ominous. You said Miss Jane would bring bad luck. All this is what you said, that Miss Jane must be a fox spirit reincarnated. Once you officially marry President Hughes, you’d leave her no place to stand. I didn’t lie; it’s you who are jealous of Miss Jane because President Hughes cherishes her more now...” The secretary spilled all the grievances that Evelyn had unconsciously vented to her over time.

”Shut up...” Sweat poured from Evelyn’s face as she looked at Joshua’s cold, emotionless smile, sending chills from her very core upward, making her feel that even the warmest fur wasn’t enough.

”Josh, our child will be born soon. For the sake of the child, please don’t be angry. I won’t trouble Avery Jane anymore. Bring her back, and we will be as close as sisters like before at the Yates Family, okay?” Evelyn watched Joshua, speaking in a panic.

”Evelyn, you insisted on screwing things up yourself...” Joshua sighed deeply, shaking his head regretfully, his gaze icy.
