Chapter 26, The Last Monster

Even Sun Ge, an experienced Swordsman, did not know where the last Monster was hiding. However, he still kept an optimistic outlook, and he comforted everyone, saying, “It’s alright, we don’t need to rush.”

“The Secret Realm is only this big, where could a Monster hide? Perhaps we haven’t searched carefully enough, and the Monster is hiding in one of the houses?”

Qin Qiu nodded and said, “Let’s do another thorough search of the village. As a Holy Light Mage, I can sense that there’s still a Dark Element presence, and it’s not far from here.”

“The last Monster must be nearby!”

The others nodded, thinking this was their only option.

As everyone was about to move, they noticed Lu Fan standing still, seemingly deep in thought.

“Little Brother, what’s wrong? Have you discovered something?” Sun Ge walked up and patted Lu Fan’s shoulder.

After the battle, Sun Ge greatly admired Lu Fan, and their relationship had become closer than at the beginning.

Lu Fan shook his head, indicating he hadn’t discovered anything, but then he said, “I think we might have overlooked something.”

“What?” Qin Qiu became interested and asked.

Lu Fan opened his Mission Panel and showed it to everyone, then pointed at the text, saying, “Look, the Mission Description says that Despair Village initially had villagers who contracted a plague, and then the bodies were piled up by the lake. Three days later, these corpses mutated and became these Zombies. So, I’m wondering, could the real problem not be the village, but the small lake next to the village?”

Lu Fan’s words made everyone’s eyes light up. Indeed, there was a small lake in this Secret Realm, right next to the Despair Village.

The lake was not large, at most just a large pond, filled with foul-smelling black water, so no one had approached it.

If there were no Monsters left in the Despair Village, then the last Monster might very well be at the bottom of this lake!

Sun Ge was delighted and said, “Little Brother Lu is right, we indeed have not checked if there are Monsters hiding in the lake.”

“I’d say the source of the plague in Despair Village might have come from the bottom of the lake. That might be where the Secret Realm Boss is hiding!” Qin Qiu nodded in agreement, smiled slightly, and continued, “In that case, let’s go check out the small lake.”

Everyone set off and soon arrived at the small lake beside Despair Village.

The lake surface was calm like a mirror, making it hard to imagine what might be hiding beneath.

Qin Qiu waved her staff, and countless white fireballs gathered in mid-air, then fell like rain, covering the lake surface.

Not only Qin Qiu, but the other two Mages in the team also cast fireball spells, bombarding the small lake.

Immediately, a large amount of steam mixed with a corpse-like stench spread out, making many people frown.

The small lake was disturbed, and after a moment, something strange happened.

In the centre of the lake, a whirlpool appeared, and at the same time, a large amount of black gas burst out from the bottom, dispersing all the flames from Qin Qiu and the other two Mages.

“As we suspected, the last Monster is hiding here!” Sun Ge tensed up, gripping his greatsword and standing at the forefront.

“Everyone, be careful! This should be the Boss of the Secret Realm, it won’t be easy to deal with!” Just as Sun Ge finished speaking, there was an explosion at the centre of the whirlpool. A pitch-black figure suddenly shot out from the bottom of the lake, covered in constantly dissipating black gas, hurtling towards Sun Ge like a cannonball.

With a loud *Bang!*, Sun Ge was directly sent flying. The difference in Strength Attribute between them was evident.

As Sun Ge flew back, spewing blood, the black figure, with extremely high speed, attacked the rear of the team.

Little Jia, with his relatively low Agility Attribute, couldn’t get there in time to stop it.

Qin Qiu’s face turned pale as she watched the terrifying black figure charge towards her, feeling as if all the blood in her body had frozen.

However, at this moment, another figure rushed over, his speed not much slower than the black figure’s.

Lu Fan certainly couldn’t watch this Monster slaughter their team’s backline. He reacted extremely quickly. After Sun Ge was sent flying, he dragged his Black Dragon Scale Greatsword to directly intercept the black figure.

“Kneel!” Lu Fan shouted in a deep voice, immediately activating Dragon Fang Strike, slamming it down on the black figure.

The Giant Dragon Head roared as it pressed down, indeed covering the black figure and stopping its movement.

Dragon Fang Strike did not instantly kill it. The Black Dragon Scale Greatsword slashed its shoulder, not only leaving a deep wound that exposed bone but also forcing it to kneel on one knee under the heavy strike.

It was during this pause that the true form of the black figure was revealed to everyone.

It was also a Zombie, but its appearance was more terrifying and bizarre.

It was pitch black all over, like a human-shaped mass of sludge. Its face was so unclear that even its features were indistinct, like a corpse that had been soaked in water for years but hadn’t rotted.

On its hands were two rusty iron chains as thick as wrists.

Lu Fan immediately used Appraisal Eye on it, instantly saw its Attributes.
