Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 427: Chapter 426: Knowing and correcting one’s faults is of the greatest virtue

Although Tao Dongcheng and his daughter Tao Ying ultimately chose to apologize, Ye Haochuan did not want to let the matter rest so easily, especially regarding Tao Ying herself. Despite her outward show of apology, there remained an aggressive arrogance on her face.

He snorted and said, ”That’s somewhat sincere, but, as I said before, be ready with fifty million in consultation fees...”

”Fifty million, isn’t that too much? Which major hospital nowadays charges such exorbitant treatment fees?” Tao Ying said through clenched teeth.

Coming from a powerful and wealthy family, she held secret control over a real estate company, and while she could come up with fifty million, she still felt that such a high consultation fee was not worth it.

”Too much?” Ye Haochuan said indifferently, ”If you can find a hospital that cures your daughter’s polio, then forget what I said.”

”You...” Tao Ying was infuriated, ”I don’t believe you’d charge so much for just a pill. Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you to the Bureau of Price Control? Besides, Haishan University Affiliated Hospital has the Body-Strengthening Pill. I can buy it from them. You just need to treat the illness.”

”Haha!” Ye Haochuan laughed loudly, looking at Tao Ying as if she were a fool, ”Sorry, but the Body-Strengthening Pills at Haishan University Affiliated Hospital are provided by Yours Truly Ye. You get what you pay for. If you can’t afford it, then forget it.”

”What?” Hearing this, Tao Ying suddenly felt like she had hit a wall, and her once aggressive demeanor deflated instantly.

”Alright, even so, fifty million is too steep. How about this, I’ll give you twenty million. That consultation fee is outrageous anywhere in the world...” Tao Ying suggested.

Ye Haochuan was unmoved, simply stating, ”Eighty million!”

At these words, Tao Ying’s eyelid twitched, and the surrounding family of Old Master Xiang were all stunned. Just moments ago, Ye Haochuan had treated Old Master Xiang without asking for a cent, giving the impression of a man who did not care much for money. No one expected him to suddenly raise the price now, and to eighty million at that, which was a surprise to everyone.

”Ye Haochuan, don’t you go too far, you’re being disrespectful!” Tao Ying shouted loudly.

”One hundred million!” Ye Haochuan said impassively.

”Whoa—”

The family of Old Master Xiang immediately started whispering among themselves. Although some did not understand Ye Haochuan’s approach, they also had some disdain for Tao Ying. Was it really so hard to keep her mouth shut? Now, because of her extra words, the price had increased by another twenty million.

Old Master Xiang couldn’t stand it any longer, he glared at Tao Ying and barked, ”Shut your mouth!”

Seeing Old Master Xiang intervene, Tao Ying was somewhat frightened and closed her mouth.

”Doctor Ye, I am aware of the grudge between you two, but this girl suffering from polio is innocent after all. A medical practitioner should have a compassionate heart, so please don’t be too hard on them,” pleaded Old Master Xiang.

”Old Master Xiang, you saw what happened just now. If she had shown even a trace of proper attitude in seeking medical help, would I have targeted her? I’m not her personal physician; why should she order me around? Well, even if she doesn’t respect my medical skills, what I want to say is that Yours Truly Ye is not a divine doctor. I have feelings too. I can choose to save a life or refuse to do so. That is my freedom.”

Hearing this, Old Master Xiang could only give up. Instead, he turned to persuade Tao Ying, ”You already know the stance of Junior Godly Doctor Ye. I advise you to quickly prepare one hundred million. Further resistance won’t do you any good, right?”

Tao Ying wanted to argue further, but at that moment, Tao Dongsheng grabbed her and scolded, ”Shut your mouth. Do you want to embarrass yourself even more? We can come up with fifty million, so why argue so stubbornly over this? What’s more important, the child or the money? If the money is gone, we can work hard to earn it back. But what about the child? Do you want to let her live as a cripple for the rest of her life?”

After a scolding like that, Tao Ying’s face flushed with shame, and tears began streaming down her face.

”Doctor Ye, I now realize that what we did before was indeed very wrong, so I apologize to you once again with utmost sincerity. One hundred million it is. As long as you can save my granddaughter Tongtong, even if it costs me this old life, I am willing,” she said.

Tao Dongsheng spoke with pride.

That’s more like it!

Ye Haochuan nodded his head.

Then, at the urging of his father Tao Dongsheng, Tao Ying wrote a check for one billion yuan and respectfully handed it to Ye Haochuan.

However, what Ye Haochuan did next surprised everyone. He took out his phone and actually made two calls.

The first call was to the tax department, saying he intended to pay on behalf of Dacheng Real Estate Company 300 million yuan in taxes for tax evasion and underreporting.

The second call was to the Red Cross, saying he wanted to donate 600 million yuan to compensate the workers who had died on the job for Dacheng Real Estate Company, with the excess funds going entirely to charity.

After hanging up the phone, everyone around looked at Ye Haochuan, puzzled.

Even Old Master Xiang couldn’t hold back and said, ”Junior Godly Doctor Ye, what is this...?”

Ye Haochuan didn’t directly answer Old Master Xiang’s question but instead turned to look at Tao Ying and said, ”Ms. Tao, do you understand why I am doing this?”

Hearing him mention Dacheng Real Estate Company made Tao Ying blush with shame. The company was secretly controlled by her, and over the years, she had used the resources of her father and husband to gain huge financial benefits. She hadn’t expected that this seemingly ordinary doctor would know everything. How could she not be afraid?

”I... know,” Tao Ying said, lowering her head in guilt, her voice as faint as a mosquito.

”In Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, medical practice and metaphysics have always been one and the same. My purpose in doing this is to help you avert potential crises and accumulate merit for your daughter’s sake,” Ye Haochuan explained.

Confronted with his profound statements, everyone present was stunned. What did this have to do with accruing merit?

Fortunately, Ye Haochuan continued to explain, ”Actually, the reason why your daughter suddenly contracted poliomyelitis, although it seems on the surface to be an infection by the poliovirus, is actually because of your habitually dishonest business practices and using your father’s influence to engage in tax evasion, which has damaged your own merit. Coupled with the deceased workers from your Great Achievement Real Estate Company who weren’t sufficiently compensated, their families’ resentment exploded and all that negative emotion was vented on your daughter, so...”

”Stop, please stop...” Tao Ying suddenly came to a realization, weeping loudly, ”I was wrong, I truly was.”

”To know one’s mistakes and to mend one’s ways is the greatest virtue,” Ye Haochuan nodded, ”Apart from repaying the taxes, the rest of the money donated in your name can resolve a lot of grievances against you, and the surplus used for charity will also gain you a great deal of merit. In the future, if similar situations arise, remember not to pursue profit at all costs. What you do is seen by heaven, do you understand?”

”I understand, I truly do,” Tao Ying sincerely acknowledged the lesson.

Only then did Old Master Xiang and his family come to a sudden realization. It turned out that Ye Haochuan demanded such an exorbitant fee not just for profit but for treatment!

In an instant, applause filled the room—Old Master Xiang changed his impression of him as being greedy, praising him repeatedly and excitedly.

Ye Haochuan smiled faintly and then said to Tao Ying, ”As for the remaining ten million consultation fee, I rightfully deserve it because the Body-Strengthening Pill is very rare and difficult to refine; it is worth the price.”

”Mm-hmm,” Tao Ying nodded, now completely convinced and compliant.

”Alright, enough talk, hand the child over to me; I’m going to treat her now,” Ye Haochuan instructed.
