Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 423: Chapter 422: No benefit, who would do things for you?

Behind him, Secretary Zhang, burning with anger, said, ”Director Chen, Ye Haochuan’s audacity is too much, isn’t it? He dares to disregard even your influence.”

Originally, these words were meant to appease Chen Zhonghe, yet when they reached his ears, they turned oddly ironic, leaving him feeling a burning shame on his face, quite embarrassed in front of his subordinate.

”Enough, stop talking about those useless things.” Chen Zhonghe’s mood had reached its breaking point, almost as if he was about to faint in the restroom.

Facing someone with such a hot temper as Ye Haochuan, he felt helpless. At this moment, he couldn’t regret it more; his decision the day before to revoke Ye Haochuan’s Medical Practice License was perhaps the dumbest decision he had made in his political career.

Upon learning that Chen Zhonghe had still failed to get Ye Haochuan back to work at the hospital, Tao Dongsheng was furiously livid, berating, ”Useless, good-for-nothing, failing to handle even a young man, what use are you? Pack your things and leave, you won’t need to come to work tomorrow.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Zhonghe almost fainted on the spot.

With his subordinates ineffective, Tao Dongsheng had no choice but to enter the fray himself, fortunately, he was already prepared with a backup plan.

He had found out that Ye Haochuan had a good relationship with the Deputy Party Secretary of the city, Lin Xiaoquan; if he could persuade Lin Xiaoquan to help, it might bring about a good result.

Although he and Lin Xiaoquan had always been incompatible, like fire and water, in the world of officials, there are no permanent friends or enemies, only perpetual interests.

He believed that with Lin Xiaoquan’s foresight, he wouldn’t fail to see what it meant to cultivate a good relationship with Senior Secretary Xiang.

However, by doing so, he would have to cede this great opportunity to shine to Lin Xiaoquan, which he found somewhat regrettable!

The problem was, if he did not do so, what would become of his dear little granddaughter?

Thinking this, Tao Dongsheng had no choice but to go to Lin Xiaoquan’s office.

Shortly after, he arrived at the door.

”Oh, Old Tao, this grand visit, may I know what brings you here?” Lin Xiaoquan’s hearty laugh came from the office.

Tao Dongsheng entered the office, smiling, ”Old Lin, listen to you! It’s almost noon; why don’t we head to the cafeteria for lunch together?”

Lin Xiaoquan, a shrewd character himself, immediately caught on to the hints in the conversation; Old Tao was an old fox, and with their relationship, Tao coming without any reason must mean he was after something!

”Old Tao, why so polite? Just tell me, what is it? If I can do it, I’ll certainly do it. Even if I can’t, I’ll think of a way to get it done.”

Lin Xiaoquan chuckled warmly, his words sounding agreeable.

However, Tao Dongsheng inwardly scoffed; it all sounded well and good, but whether it could be done or not—that was another matter.

”Old Lin, I’m getting older. After a few more years in the municipal committee, I’m likely to retire. This party and mass work in the committee has always been the crux of our work, it’s a huge responsibility. I’ve been thinking, you should take part in it too. You’re younger and stronger, I believe you will do it even better,” Tao Dongsheng said with a smile.

In the realm of officials, the art of negotiation is a profound science, and Tao Dongsheng was well-versed in these intricacies.

”To obtain, one must first give.”

Since one was seeking favors, substantial benefits must first be promised. Without benefits, who would do the work?

Looking at Secretary Tao’s face, lined with wrinkles and his murky eyes squinting into slits, Lin Xiaoquan always felt the turbidity in his gaze hid a hint of bitterness. ”Heh, old fox, even you have days like this? It seems that coming to me is no small matter after all!”

”Old Tao, taking on party and mass work is too heavy a burden for me. I’m afraid I might not accomplish enough and might fail too much!” Lin Xiaoquan said lightly.

Hearing him express reluctance, Tao Dongsheng maintained a calm expression, but how could he believe that? This pretense of modesty was a script he could play far more convincingly than Lin Xiaoquan ever could.

With this thought, Tao Dongsheng chuckled and said, ”Old Lin, don’t worry. You’ve been responsible for the municipal government’s operations in the city committee for years. Your achievements are visible to all. In my opinion, your organizational ability is quite strong. I believe you can handle party and mass work as well. Don’t be too modest.”

Damn old fox, you used to hold onto power so tightly, afraid that I would steal your thunder. Now things are different, you know to delegate power when asking for my help.

Lin Xiaoquan cursed inwardly, but rationally, this was a good thing for him, so he reluctantly said, ”Since you put it that way, Old Tao, I’ll give it a try. However, Old Tao, if I make any mistakes in my work, you’ll need to give me plenty of guidance.”

”That’s agreed, that’s agreed!” Tao Dongsheng’s eyes crinkled as he smiled. Now that Lin Xiaoquan had agreed, things would be easier to handle.

After a pause, Tao Dongsheng suddenly changed the subject and said, ”By the way, Old Lin, there’s a small matter I’d like to discuss with you. I heard you’re quite familiar with a doctor named Ye Haochuan from Haishan University Affiliated Hospital, is that right?”

Hearing him mention Ye Haochuan, Lin Xiaoquan instantly realized the motive. Damn, so that was the reason all along.

That morning, he had received a call from an old university friend at the provincial committee stating that Senior Secretary Xiang, who had retired to the second line, had come to Haishan for medical treatment, specifically seeking Ye Haochuan. Therefore, he had already called Ye Haochuan in advance to pass on the message.

The inside story behind the revocation of Ye Haochuan’s Medical Practice License was all too clear to him. To strike at Tao Dongsheng, he naturally wouldn’t miss such an opportunity.

”Yes, I’m quite familiar. What about it?” Lin Xiaoquan asked with a smile.

”It’s like this, the comrades in the medical units below have been too hasty in their duty, causing distress to Doctor Ye. Suspension was one thing, but to also revoke his Medical Practice License is utterly absurd. I heard Doctor Ye is well regarded for his medical skills. Such a talent shouldn’t be wasted, right? This would be a great loss to our Haishan medical system!”

”That’s true, that’s true...”

Lin Xiaoquan nodded repeatedly on the surface, but inside, he was laughing inwardly. Damn it, Old Tao, even at this point, you still play bureaucratic games. Who doesn’t know that idiot Chen Zhonghe was acting on your orders?

”But now the problem is that Doctor Ye flatly refuses to return to work, even personal apologies from the staff won’t suffice. So, I was thinking, maybe you could step in, make a call to smooth things over. We must firmly hold onto a talent like Doctor Ye, so he can fully dedicate himself to serving the people of Haishan.”

Damn, this old fox, don’t think I don’t know what little schemes you’re harboring, trying to curry favor with Senior Secretary Xiang for your own career advancement, climbing higher up the ladder.

Lin Xiaoquan cursed inwardly, yet his face broke into a smile, ”This matter, well, I can step in, but I’m not that close to Doctor Ye, so whether it’ll work out, that remains to be seen.”

”Just do your best, just do your best...” Tao Dongsheng smiled, ”Why not call him now?”
