Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1998: Chapter 1999: Perception

The Tree Spirit was originally closing his eyes, focusing his thoughts on the avatar over at the Star Pond Ruins. However, when he sensed the heavy movements of the leaf veins under his lounge chair, he suddenly opened his eyes.

He saw Angel approaching him from a short distance with a man whose body was extremely burly. The man was bare-chested, his firm muscles covered with colorful totem tattoos, exuding a naturally rugged aura.

At first glance, he seemed like a barbarian from a primitive tribe.

”What, you went out for a bit and brought someone over again? Is he joining your research as well?”

Angel nodded: ”Yes, he is joining my research, but it’s another research project.”

The Tree Spirit raised an eyebrow: ”You have a lot of research projects?”

”Actually, only one, but they are responsible for some insignificant small studies under this research project.”

”Even the information exchange you mentioned before is a small study?”

”Sort of.”

Hearing Angel’s words, a strong curiosity arose in the Tree Spirit’s heart, but he could see that Angel didn’t seem inclined to elaborate, so the Tree Spirit sensibly didn’t ask.

The Tree Spirit turned his head, signaling Baruba to take out the Bone Card. While tapping in the air, updating Baruba’s task, he said: ”It sounds like you need quite a few people for your research this time? I can help you recruit some people to go over to your place.”

Angel: ”I do indeed need some manpower, but there’s no rush for now, let’s talk in a few days.”

Once Angel reveals the matter of the Wilderness of Dreams, there will be no need for Angel to say anything, as the Tree Spirit will actively find people to enter.

As for now, the talents selected by the Tree Spirit may not necessarily meet the criteria for entering the Wilderness of Dreams. So, it might be better to wait a few more days.

As for Babaya and the others, since Angel is very familiar with them, and they are indeed talented, letting them enter the Wilderness of Dreams for foresight makes Angel relatively assured.

The Tree Spirit doesn’t understand why Angel still wants to wait, but it doesn’t really matter. After all, whether earlier or later, Angel will have to come here to register tasks when he wants to find people, and then it will all be clear.

”This time, what kind of task reward are you planning to give him?” The Tree Spirit pouted twice towards Baruba, inquiring to Angel.

Angel thought for a moment: ”Let’s go with Magic Crystals. I will discuss the specific quantity with him later.”

The Tree Spirit pointed at the Bone Card in Baruba’s palm with his finger, and the task record on the Bone Card was updated.

Not only had the Contribution Points for the previous construction of the Rose Chapel been credited, but a new task had been taken on, joining the long-term research of the red-haired man in front of him.

Baruba remembered that the red-haired man had told him before that he was recruited for a construction task, so why did it turn into research? However, at this time, Baruba didn’t dare ask. He had previously judged the red-haired man to be a potential strong figure, and the facts proved him right. Just looking at the respectful attitude of the Tree Spirit towards him, it was evident that the other party was definitely not an Apprentice.

An Official Wizard or perhaps a True Knowledge Wizard?

Whichever it was, Baruba couldn’t afford to offend them. So, he didn’t dare to ask any questions now, keeping his head down and silently praying that this stranger of a Wizard would be easy to get along with.

The best outcome would be to complete the task smoothly, with everyone undisturbed; the worst outcome might be that the other party resents his otherworldly mixed-race identity... If it really came to that, he would have no choice but to self-destruct.

Even if self-destruction wouldn’t threaten the other’s life, even if Baruba desperately wanted to live, if it really came to that point, activating the Parachute Fungus Insect bloodline would be his only way to maintain dignity.

After updating the Bone Card, the Tree Spirit noticed Baruba’s pale face and serious expression.

The Tree Spirit’s mind moved, and he understood Baruba’s thoughts.

It seems Angel hadn’t disclosed his identity to him. Naturally, the Tree Spirit wouldn’t tell Baruba either, and seeing Baruba’s anxious expression, he found it quite amusing.

”Has Babaya arrived yet?” Since they were going to leave the Mirror World through the Teleportation Array in the Spirit Tree Hall later, the agreed meeting point was in the Spirit Tree Hall.

The Tree Spirit: ”Babaya is already here, in the outer hall, but Kudodo... he should be arriving soon.”

Angel noticed that the Tree Spirit’s tone was a bit strange when mentioning Kudodo.

Could something have happened?

Before Angel could ponder over it, the door behind him was suddenly pushed open. Turning his head, he saw a graceful figure walking towards him against the light.

Even though he couldn’t clearly see the person’s face in the backlight, the familiar scent of roses told Angel the identity of the visitor.

”Rose Crown” Lianna!

Indeed, as the person drew nearer, Angel saw familiar rose petal illusions surrounding her. Without a doubt, someone who holds roses so dearly could only be Lianna.

Besides Lianna, Angel also saw Kudodo and Babaya, these two little ones trailing cautiously behind her. Babaya had no expression, but Kudodo looked miserable, not daring to lift his head to look at Angel.

Angel felt a pang in his heart, and he roughly understood what was going on.

”I encountered you a few days ago, and I thought you seemed a bit strange back then. Now it seems that my spiritual sense wasn’t wrong.” Lianna walked up to Angel, examining him from top to bottom: ”Your outfit, the aura from inside out—lazy, casual. It seems this is your true desire? In that case, you are indeed a bit different from your mentor.”

Undoubtedly, Lianna had already discovered Angel’s identity.

Angel: ”It’s just an act, who knows if it’s heartfelt or not?”

He paused, glancing at Kudodo behind him: ”Did Kudodo tell you?”

Lianna shook his head: ”He didn’t say anything, but his spiritual demeanor has changed from before. After being in the doldrums for so long, he’s finally becoming positive again. A little speculation, and your identity naturally emerges.”

Since it was Lianna who asked Angel to find Kudodo in the first place, any slight change in Kudodo’s mood was immediately noticed by Lianna.

”Can’t hide it from you.” Angel didn’t struggle, nodding directly in acknowledgment.

Lianna’s mouth curled into a smile: ”I don’t care why you’re hiding your identity, but I’m curious, what kind of research are you having Kudodo follow you for?”

”Did you come to me just to ask that question?”

”Indeed, I have some matters I want to ask you for help with,” Lianna said. ”But this question is something I want to know as well. After all, Kudodo is my student. He lacks ambition and doesn’t make progress. I’m curious, what research do you want such a waste to help you with?”

Referred to as ’waste’ by Lianna, Kudodo lowered his head even further, if not for being on a tree leaf, he would have buried himself in the ground.

”A small study. You once asked me when I return to the Barbarian Cave to persuade Lord Reine, right? My research is somewhat related to that.”

Lianna was a bit taken aback: ”You’re talking about... the Crystal Ball?”

Angel nodded: ”Precisely, the interaction of information. I need some manpower to assist in the research, and Kudodo and Babaya are good candidates.”
