Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1988: Chapter 1989: The Rookie Butcher

Feng Man didn’t expect the Tree Spirit to suddenly appear.

Apparently, the Tree Spirit wasn’t appearing just because of his battle with the dagger-wielding man. After all, back when he and Gu Yina had just become Transcendent, they used to rob apprentices at the sky bus station, and the Tree Spirit never showed up at that time.

Since the Tree Spirit wasn’t here for the battle, the only possible reason is—

Feng Man looked at the red-haired, golden-eyed man who was chatting pleasantly with the Tree Spirit.

After just one glance, Feng Man lowered his head, not daring to look any more. To be treated so warmly by the Tree Spirit, this person was definitely not ordinary. Although Feng Man didn’t yet know the man’s identity, he was certain the man wasn’t an Apprentice, likely an Official Wizard, or even higher.

Feng Man felt somewhat fortunate that he held back on the mirror earlier and didn’t confront this man. Otherwise, the consequences would be unpredictable.

Various thoughts ran through Feng Man’s mind, but he knew that even if the Tree Spirit wasn’t here for him specifically, the dagger man he killed was still at the Tree Spirit’s feet, so he needed to express something after all.

After hesitating for a long time, Feng Man stepped forward and bowed his head submissively, ”Tree Spirit...”

The Tree Spirit ignored Feng Man, casually waving a hand, ”No need to say anything, just leave directly. As for the person you killed, there’s nothing valuable on him, so you don’t need to search. Go now.”

The Tree Spirit clearly bore an air of dismissal. Feng Man dared not resist, lowered his head, packed up the scattered White-footed Sea Spiders, and quickly ran towards Apprentice Town.

After Feng Man’s figure vanished, the Tree Spirit sighed and said to Angel, ”Now you see why I told you not to worry about Feng Man and Gu Yina back then. These two troublemakers are no less capable than Flora was in her time.”

After speaking, the Tree Spirit lightly moved a foot, and a deep brown tree root emerged from the ground, binding the dagger man’s corpse and pulling it into the earth. Whether it became fertilizer or something else was unknown.

While doing so, the Tree Spirit murmured, narrating the grudge between this dagger man and Feng Man.

In fact, the motivation for this assassination was simple—revenge.

Feng Man was a ruthless person. After Black Jack was accepted as a student by Wan Zhi Shinintin, Feng Man replaced him as the new nightmare of the Sky Tower.

Moreover, his actions were even more reckless than Black Jack’s. Black Jack exhibited severe sadistic behavior in the arena, occasionally causing his opponents’ deaths, but only occasionally; Feng Man, on the other hand, ensured that unless his opponents surrendered immediately, they inevitably died. And their deaths were extremely painful, consumed by myriad spiders and dying helplessly and despairingly under the corruption of potent poisons.

If Black Jack was the killer of the newcomers, then Feng Man was the butcher of the newcomers.

However, no matter how much of a butcher he was, he couldn’t intimidate everyone. When the slaughter he committed accumulated to a certain extent, it inevitably led to retaliation and revenge.

”The man who died had a lover who was killed by Feng Man on the Sky Tower not long ago. Therefore, he came here and launched this attack on Feng Man, clearly to avenge his lover,” the Tree Spirit sighed slightly, ”Unfortunately, his strength was insufficient, and his anger had clouded his mind, ultimately leading to his own demise.”

”Perhaps he came with the intention of dying,” Angel mused, recalling how in his final moments, the dagger man kept repeating a name, likely his lover’s. The tone carried determination, regret, and a hint of hidden liberation.

The Tree Spirit sighed, ”Maybe.”

After dealing with the dagger man’s remains, Angel didn’t inquire further. To him, this wasn’t a significant matter.

”Tree Spirit, you mentioned Gu Yina earlier. I met her recently. I wonder why she suddenly started mingling with Abulei?” Angel asked.

”I’m also puzzled by that, but there must be a purpose,” the Tree Spirit recalled that Gu Yina intentionally set a trap to get to know and converse with Abulei. Now, they seem to have become very close friends.

Since it was a purposeful setup, Gu Yina couldn’t possibly have no objective. However, the Tree Spirit wasn’t sure of Gu Yina’s intentions, as Abulei was quite weak among the apprentices; he couldn’t think of how Abulei could be of use...

”Why are you suddenly interested in their affairs?” the Tree Spirit curiously asked.

Angel replied, ”Feng Man and Gu Yina were both brought into the Barbarian Cave by me, so I’m simply curious about their development.”

Angel wasn’t lying; though he didn’t particularly like their personalities, since he had introduced them, he was curious to see what changes had occurred in the two who once so eagerly sought survival.

”The two of them, one in the open and one in the shadows, have almost turned the trouble within the Barbarian Cave’s apprentice community upside down,” the Tree Spirit remarked, ”However, this may not be a bad thing. These apprentices have been too settled for too long; having these two as disruptors might just stir the stagnant water back to life.”

They talked a bit more about Gu Yina and Feng Man before naturally stopping. After all, in the end, it’s just a matter among apprentices, hardly earth-shattering.

At this point, the Tree Spirit inquired about Angel’s intentions, ”I thought you went back to the ruins. I didn’t expect you to come to the Mirror World suddenly. What are you here to do this time?”

Angel didn’t plan to hide anything, ”I intend to visit Kudodo.”

”Are you worried about Kudodo’s state?” the Tree Spirit inquired.

”Yes, when I was in the Sky Mechanical City, I promised Lianna that I’d check on Kudodo after returning to the Barbarian Cave,” Angel replied, then added, ”Tree Spirit, he hasn’t left the Barbarian Cave at this time, has he? Is he still in the Rose Garden?”

The Tree Spirit said, ”He hasn’t left, but he’s not in the Rose Garden right now. Let me check where he is.”

After speaking, the Tree Spirit closed his eyes. After a moment, he reopened them, saying, ”He’s currently in the Underground Market...”

...

Angel arrived at the long-awaited Underground Market.

Looking at the layered houses and the towering Sky Tower in the distance, a trace of nostalgia flashed in his eyes.

However, his sentimentality lasted only a moment before it was interrupted by a voice in his ear.

”You should know where the dark alley is, right? Kudodo is currently in the dark alley,” said the Tree Spirit, who, though not physically present around Angel, communicated from a distance.

Angel didn’t respond verbally, instead heading directly in the direction of the dark alley, letting his actions answer the Tree Spirit’s question.

”You’ve come at an opportune time; judging by Kudodo’s demeanor, he’s probably preparing to leave the Barbarian Cave again...” continued the Tree Spirit, chatting idly regardless of whether Angel answered or not.
