Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5286: Matters Beyond One’s Gaze

Davis, Evelynn, and a few others had just been joyous over Illumina’s pregnancy matter.

Evelynn was particularly overjoyed since she had been expecting Illumina to truly join for a long time. It was worrying since Illumina kept denying his advances, stating that she wanted to be nothing more than Davis’s blade, and didn’t give an answer to his confessions.

Now that they were tied together by a child, she felt that there was no separating them. In her mind, Illumina absolutely deserved the seat in the harem, and the other sisters thought that way too, for she had just too many achievements and was deeply loyal to Davis, but also snitched Davis to them in case he went to look at other women.

She was just the sister they were looking for if they were to invite a new women to their harem, someone who wasn’t overly afraid of Davis, but also would safeguard him from himself. That’s why they didn’t deny her becoming the thirty-fourth wife when the topic was brought up in the Harem Council and instantly approved it.

But after sharing this joy, Davis’s expression instantly changed.

He then entered a chamber with a few and displayed the projection of him talking with Clara and meeting her, only to end up imprisoned and squashed to death and transform into motes of light.

She felt like Clara was the one who had most likely killed him after the prison formation automatically trapped him after sensing the intruder, for no other reason than the soul body was vulnerable and could be traced back.

However, she doubted Clara knew that Davis’s reincarnation soul would be extremely hard to trace back since he could sever it.

In the end, her denial of returning and her suffering all alone for three hundred years just to save him made Davis full of sorrow.

If there was ever some regret in Davis’s heart when it came to how they survived, she knew it was the day he was forced to let go of Clara to the hateful Heaven’s Warriors. They could only rejoice that the Celestial Transcendent had taken her in as a disciple, or else the threats and punishments she would face would be beyond her status and ability to endure.

She knew this was a part of the reason why Davis felt so thankful to the Celestial Transcendent in his heart. But in the end, it was still not as good as having her beside them where she truly belonged.

She said nothing and hugged him from the side, tears streaming down her glazed eyes.

This man who was like a pillar had never shed tears even when cornered, but now his eyes were misty. He had joked about suffering a lot of times, but had never looked this beaten. Her heart throbbed with pain, and she only wished she could comfort him, but lacked the right words to do so.

Illumina stood outside the chamber while firmly holding the struggling Epsila within her palms.

She didn’t know what to say after seeing Davis’s soul body get destroyed and just stepped out, forgetting that she was even pregnant as she stood outside, as she guarded them from the gazes of others. She didn’t feel as though she was supposed to be in that place since she wasn’t good with words and let the two of them be together since she felt only Evelynn could cheer him up.

Davis soon came out of his reverie as he saw Evelynn crying silently in his arms.

His heart quivered as he didn’t mean to make her feel sorrowful by momentarily reflecting on his weakness and lamenting Clara’s suffering. He ended up having to console Evelynn instead, his hand wrapping around her back and holding her arm as he cheered her up.

”It’s not as hopeless as Clara made it out to be. Some beings are probably overjoyed that I’m rising in cultivation so fast. They probably think it’s best to wait for me to reach Level Nine Empyrean Stage and attempt Exalt Heavenly Tribulation, all the while waiting right at my doorstep, ready to ambush me. Do you think I’ll honestly let them do as they please?”

Davis raised her chin and tapped her nose.

Evelynn’s nose was red, and so were her eyes ever so slightly. She blinked in reaction and glared at him, seeking answers with a silent protest.

Her gaze said to him that she wouldn’t be satisfied with a simple answer like: do not worry, I got this.

Davis was honestly troubled.

He didn’t want to make his wives worry too much, especially Evelynn, as she needed to look up all the time so the others could never look down.

This matter during or after his tribulation was exceedingly difficult to deal with, so he knew he would have no choice but to reveal Fallen Heaven at that time. He couldn’t expose too much, lest it made disadvantageous ripples in fate like when he had already selfishly and headstrongly visited Clara and provoked who knew what and made it even more difficult for her to maneuver or for him to survive.

Using the Supremes against the Cursed Artifact surely had them pissed off beyond compare as well.

He was sure those two Supremes who tried to harvest Zenova had dibs on trying to devour him if he wasn’t wrong.

Eventually, he gave in and started to explain about his dire circumstances to Evelynn using physical soul transmission. After all, if Evelynn was clueless, then the harem wouldn’t function properly if anything were to happen to him suddenly.

Sure, he would tell Myria the specifics, but in the end, it was Evelynn who held authority over the harem, so she at least needed to know the gist of it.

First, he explained why he made his reward the legitimacy of the Davis Family, eventually gaining the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm and its ruling rights, even at the cost of splitting off the family, which he didn’t want to but had to.

”Between coming under the thumb of the upright and honorable Celestial Transcendent and the threat of the unknown yet cunning Supremes who appear to seek my Reincarnation Essence, I should obviously choose the former. The lesser evil needs to be chosen when presented with two evils.” He said in a firm tone, making Evelynn’s gaze quiver.

In case he was sealed and ripped apart and his essence devoured, then his whole family would be vulnerable. Even the non-Divergent ones had a strong inclination to reach the level of the foremost supreme geniuses. In that case, just who could protect them?

The world wouldn’t let their talents flourish, and the Supremes might be waiting to devour them just like they did for him and root out any chances of revenge.

Without him, just who could protect them!?

The Heavenly Blight Hall?

Saintess Lunaria and her disciples?

His allies who were still weaker than him?

Who else other than the Celestial Transcendent could stop the Supremes and their unknown subordinates from making a move on his family members?

The Celestial Transcendent had put forth a deal to abandon Zhao Yan to save his granddaughter from the overbearing hands of the Supremes. It was clear that these Supremes were something more than just guardians and overseers. He had formed an image of them being predatory existences in his mind, and their favorite meal was likely Divergents, but they didn’t reject the normal ones either.

In this case, only the Celestial Transcendent could protect the non-Divergent Davis Family, and he believed Clara would push her master to do so, and he had just confirmed earlier.

Clara was doing everything to prevent the Davis Family from being swallowed whole.

Besides-
