The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Sun Qingning had been eavesdropping on their conversation, concerned about Fu Yu, fearing he might be held accountable by the boss, but with Yao Yihang nearby, he didn’t feel comfortable enough to ask directly.

He anxiously assisted Fu Yu until they successfully completed a plate of spicy mantis shrimp.

Beside them, Yao Yihang finally finished his task and made room.

After Yao Yihang left, Sun Qingning hurried over and asked, ”Chef Fu, where did you go earlier? Are you alright?”

Fu Yu smiled, ”Oh, I went for a home service. Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Sun Qingning breathed a sigh of relief, ”Phew! I was wondering why you rushed off in such a hurry. I didn’t have time to ask. Zhang Jinyu, that fool, when I asked where you went, he just said you had to deal with something, which was obvious!”

Fu Yu asked, ”Did Chef Yao ask him the same thing?”

Sun Qingning hadn’t noticed before, but upon hearing Fu Yu’s question, he realized it.

When the boss came over, maybe he did mention where Fu Yu went.

But Yao Yihang heard it and said nothing.

Sun Qingning couldn’t help but curse, complaining, ”That bastard, he’s really conniving! What if you really went out for something? The boss might think you abandoned your post! I’m telling you, he definitely didn’t have good intentions! He was just waiting for something to go wrong so he could watch the drama!”

Zhao Meng, who had been listening to their conversation, initially said nothing, but now he was getting a bit angry.

With a stern face, he said, ”They say like attracts like. A master rat teaches his apprentice how to dig holes. That master-apprentice duo is just the same!”

Seeing Zhao Meng angry, Fu Yu quickly consoled, ”It’s fine, after all, I was doing a legitimate job, and no one can find fault with it! Who cares what they think!”

The three of them continued their conversation.

Not far away, Yao Yihang, who was tidying up his own cooking station, turned to look at them. Although he was too far away to hear clearly, from their expressions, it was clear they were somewhat agitated.

Is there really something happening?

Yao Yihang suddenly felt a bit excited.

Just because a blind cat stumbled upon a dead mouse and came up with two so-called innovative dishes?

This guy is really full of himself!

Aren’t you amazing?

Keep showing off then!

Fu Yu reassured Zhao Meng, ”As long as we know what kind of people they are, it’s enough.”

Zhao Meng remained unmoved, still with a stern face.

Fu Yu then asked, ”Didn’t Chef Yao report to finance?”

When the kitchen takes on home services, it’s generally customary to inform finance directly to deduct the store’s share of the money.

Zhao Meng shook his head, ”He definitely reported it. Chef Yao always handles things diligently.”

Hearing this, Fu Yu felt even more at ease.

Zhao Meng calmed down, turned to Fu Yu, and said, ”There’s one more order that isn’t done yet. You and Xiaosun work together to finish it quickly, so we can go home early and rest.”

Fu Yu had no objections.

This was an old customer’s big order, but more than half of the dishes were already served.

Fu Yu counted them, there were five dishes left and one soup. Once done, they were free.

With Fu Yu as the head chef, Sun Qingning felt much more relaxed.

Once the last dish was sent out, everyone felt a huge relief, waiting for Zhao Meng’s command to clock out in the front hall.

The staff going home left through the main door, while those returning to the dormitory retraced their steps directly.

Zhao Meng patted Fu Yu on the shoulder, ”Alright, you’ve been busy all day and you’re exhausted. Go and rest early.”

Fu Yu nodded, ”See you in the morning!”

...

The next day Fu Yu had the evening shift, so he relished a rare chance to sleep in, timing his punch-in perfectly. On his way to the kitchen, he ran into Gu Yunwu.

Fu Yu greeted him and was about to leave, but Gu Yunwu stopped him.

”Xiaofu, do you have a moment? I need to discuss something with you.”

Fu Yu looked at Gu Yunwu, surprised, ”Chef Gu, what’s up? Go ahead.”

Gu Yunwu looked concerned and asked, ”Xiaofu, where were you yesterday afternoon? The boss inquired about this matter...”

Before he could finish, Zhao Meng turned the corner down the corridor.

Seeing Gu Yunwu talking to Fu Yu, Zhao Meng frowned, his face darkening, ”What time do you think it is? Stop dawdling here! Get back to work!”

Fu Yu quickly agreed and followed Zhao Meng diligently.

In truth, he wasn’t too bothered to deal with Gu Yunwu. After all, he wasn’t working under Gu Yunwu, as long as they could get along on the surface, it was good.

Watching Zhao Meng’s protective stance like an old hen guarding its chicks, Gu Yunwu was nearly hopping mad!

What the heck is with setting up a guard against a weasel look about you! Who are you trying to show off to!

Humph!

Gu Yunwu cursed internally, when a soft yet polite voice greeted him from behind, ”Morning, Chef Gu.”

Gu Yunwu turned to see who it was and immediately put on a friendly smile, ”Oh, it’s you, good morning!”

It’s funny how things sometimes work out.

Fu Yu was following Zhao Meng to the elevator, when he saw Dong Jun Tian entering through the main entrance.

Upon seeing Dong Jun Tian enter, Zhao Meng turned away, took out his phone, but didn’t dial any number, just pretending to be on a call with ”Hello, hello” as he walked.

Fu Yu followed suit, pretending not to notice, and tailed along behind.

Dong Jun Tian saw this and paused his steps.

Were they really too far away to notice him?

Zhao Meng and Fu Yu, in their hurried manner, disappeared in no time.

Dong Jun Tian felt a bit displeased.

He was passing through the front hall and preparing to go upstairs when he saw Gu Yunwu engaged in conversation once again with that young, attractive waitress from last night.

Their attitude seemed quite friendly, even intimate.

Dong Jun Tian observed this and immediately his expression darkened!

Even rabbits don’t eat the grass at the edge of their burrow!

Gu Yunwu was being outrageously audacious!

”Lao Gu!”

Dong Jun Tian called out.

Gu Yunwu turned around, dumbstruck!

How did the boss catch him again?

It was purely by chance he ran into the young waitress, just exchanging pleasantries, given last night’s awkward situation.

Even if he had some thoughts before, they’ve long vanished.

Gu Yunwu hurriedly greeted, ”Boss!”

The waitress also greeted the boss and then hurried off.

Dong Jun Tian showed not a trace of friendliness to Gu Yunwu, turning away and leaving.

Gu Yunwu felt like he was shooting himself in the foot!

This was just too unlucky!

He carried his gloomy mood back to the kitchen.

First thing in the morning, he was already in no mood.

Just then, Yao Yihang approached, ”Boss, yesterday afternoon Fu Yu skipped work, he only returned around ten at night!”

Gu Yunwu looked at Yao Yihang with a face full of distress.

Who cares where Fu Yu went at this point!

Yesterday, it was only because he got flustered and unsettled, and got sidetracked by the boss’s inquiry.

With Yao Shi keeping watch, where could Fu Yu vanish to?

It’s certainly not due to personal discomfort; he just took on a home service task.

Seeing Fu Yu lively and active earlier, Gu Yunwu leaned toward the latter assumption.
