The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

After dealing with these few order slips at hand and receiving new ones, there won’t be such a rush.

However, to ensure dishes are served on time, Fu Yu didn’t dare relax at all.

After more than an hour of busyness, the frequency of order slips coming from the order counter noticeably slowed.

Today, they have the morning shift, and everyone’s mood is getting more and more cheerful!

Roasted whole lamb for dinner!

Even Sun Qingning, who had been scolded all day, felt he could really understand Zhao Meng’s frustration of having high hopes dashed while listening to Zhao Meng reprimand him.

Zhao Meng roared, ”When stir-frying this dish, you should do it like this...”

Sun Qingning smiled in return: You’re absolutely right!

Zhao Meng: Oh crap! Is this kid provoking me?

Fu Yu glanced at the order slips on the kitchen wall, arranged the cooking sequence, and turned to instruct Zhang Jinyu to prepare the ingredients.

Before he could finish speaking, Zhao Meng’s loud voice interrupting Sun Qingning cut him off.

Fu Yu shook his head helplessly, having to lean in closer to speak to Zhang Jinyu.

Zhang Jinyu, still a bit shaken, whispered: ”Chef Zhao has been quite edgy lately! Is it early menopause?”

Fu Yu sighed: ”Not really, maybe he’s just pent-up!”

Fu Yu felt quite sympathetic toward Zhao Meng; having such good cooking skills but no opportunity to showcase them must be so frustrating!

Zhang Jinyu instinctively glanced at Zhao Meng’s waistband, inexplicably feeling a bit empathetic...how strange!

Seizing the moment when Zhao Meng went to the backdoor to smoke, Sun Qingning finally had a moment to complain to Fu Yu: ”Why can’t Chef Zhao be a bit gentler with me? I mean, he treats customers like they are caressed by a spring breeze, so attentive. How, when it’s me, it turns into an autumn wind sweeping away fallen leaves, ruthlessly mowing down everything?”

Fu Yu, with insincere comfort, said: ”A strict teacher produces outstanding students! It shows Chef Zhao thinks you are a promising talent.”

Sun Qingning suddenly felt comforted.

Feeling calmer, he couldn’t help but start gossiping.

”Hey, I heard there was a quarrel among customers in the front earlier this afternoon?”

Fu Yu briefly explained what happened.

Sun Qingning thought of the previous incident: ”Was it that previous customer?”

Fu Yu nodded: ”Yeah.”

Sun Qingning chuckled: ”Then they must have come over specifically for you this time. But to be fair, it’s not our fault at all! That customer hijacked the dish midway, and the situation was special; anyone would have helped. I’d say that young woman lacks empathy!”

Fu Yu was noncommittal; matters of public opinion depend on the perspective.

After gossiping, Sun Qingning couldn’t help but ask: ”Hey, Chef Fu, don’t you think Chef Zhao is making a mountain out of a molehill? It wasn’t our fault at first, and an apology would suffice, but he gave two extra side dishes. Giving away side dishes is fine, but why did he have to give an extra large cold noodle dish to each table? Was that necessary?”

Fu Yu nodded decisively: ”It was.”

Sun Qingning was taken aback: ”Was it? But didn’t the customer say it was alright?”

Fu Yu smiled: ”Customers come to the restaurant to enjoy their meal, and if they can’t maintain a pleasant mood, they won’t enjoy their food either, and their overall impression of our restaurant will take a hit. In the future, when they want to eat out again, it’s uncertain if they’ll come here. For the restaurant, it means losing a customer.”

”A stable source of customers is worth far more than a large cold noodle dish.”

After saying this, Fu Yu continued with his work.

Sun Qingning was left speechless by Fu Yu’s words.

After a while, Sun Qingning turned to Fu Yu and earnestly said: ”Chef Fu, now I know why Chef Zhao likes you.”

Fu Yu was in the midst of sizzling a pan, not hearing clearly, asked: ”What did you say?”

Sun Qingning beamed: ”I said, I want to learn from you!”

Fu Yu was taken aback, amused yet helpless, wondering why this suddenly turned into a learning moment.

Nonetheless, he cooperatively nodded: ”Alright, then you should definitely work hard!”

...

The front hall sent off a batch of customers, and Gao Wenjing, feeling relieved, ordered four milkshakes.

When the delivery arrived, Gao Wenjing personally carried them to the back kitchen.

”Chef Zhao! Thank you so much! If it weren’t for your help, the customers wouldn’t have left so happy.”

The transition between summer and autumn, it’s still quite hot.

With several stoves blazing at once in the kitchen, the heat was like a steam room.

Drinking a chilled, delicious milkshake instantly soothed Zhao Meng’s initially furious mood, bringing a smile to his face.

”No need to thank! With our relationship, just say the word if you need anything, it works!”

Gao Wenjing had a few more pleasant words with Zhao Meng before leaving.

Among the four milkshakes, Zhao Meng kept one for himself, gave one to Fu Yu, and the remaining two to Sun Qingning and Zhang Jinyu.

Gu Yunwu saw Gao Wenjing bring the milkshakes over, and they all ended up with Zhao Meng, his expression changed instantly.

It wasn’t about missing that cup of milkshake but what Gao Wenjing’s actions implied.

He had been busy cooking and didn’t know what had happened in the front hall.

Now seeing Gao Wenjing hand over the milkshakes to Zhao Meng, laughing and chatting over there without even greeting him, made him wonder.

What is this!

Looking down on him!

Initially a little annoyed, but then he remembered that once he becomes the head chef, with Zhao Meng’s personality, he definitely couldn’t stay; by then, he’d be in charge of the kitchen, and anyone trying to curry favor, except for him, wouldn’t have anyone else to turn to.

As for Zhao Meng, an insignificant person, being overshadowed now didn’t matter.

After all, he’d eventually leave; it was just a matter of time.

Thinking this, his thoughts wandered a bit far away...

Yao Yihang followed Gu Yunwu’s gaze, also glanced at the group enjoying their milkshakes and laughing, and smirked internally, this Gao Wenjing truly lacks perception.

Zhao Meng, with all his issues, can’t even raise his arm anymore, what’s the use in currying favor with him?

When the provincial TV station came for an interview, such a great opportunity, and the boss picked Gu Yunwu to accompany Yao Shi in front of the camera, Zhao Meng wasn’t involved at all.

They say women have long hair but short insight.

Look at this, can’t even spot potential when it’s right there!

Yao Yihang saw Gu Yunwu glaring at Zhao Meng’s side with a dark expression, feeling very pleased.

So he used the excuse of going to the bathroom to sneak to a side street and bought two milkshakes back.

He handed one of the milkshakes to Gu Yunwu: ”Boss, it’s too hot in the kitchen, here, have a drink to cool off.”

Gu Yunwu was taken aback: ”Oh... you, when did you buy this? Thanks!”

In this sweltering heat, one sip of something cool was instantly refreshing, even the sticky pores felt like they opened up.

Yao Yihang, hearing Gu Yunwu’s thanks, felt quite satisfied, knowing his flattery struck perfectly this time.

He struck while the iron was hot, continued: ”Boss, this Sister Gao is kinda funny, probably just sees Chef Zhao being close to Chef Yao and acts like this... don’t take it to heart.”

Gu Yunwu was taken aback, realizing the connection; Gao Wenjing indeed seemed closer to Yao Shi, it was said they even had dinner together some time ago.

Yet seeing Yao Yihang’s maneuvering, Gu Yungu couldn’t help frowning; these petty tricks were... truly brainless!

But... this was fine.

Gu Yunwu nodded, suddenly said: ”Yihang, work hard, the opportunity is about to arrive, you understand what I mean, right?”

Yao Yihang’s eyes lit up: ”Understood!”

Gu Yunwu turned back to his cooking.
