The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Fu Yu returned to Qianlima and quickly hurried to the kitchen to report.

Today it was Zhao Meng’s turn for the night shift, so when Fu Yu went to the Yang Family for catering service, Yao Shi temporarily took over his orders.

As for Gu Yunwu, all the other junior staff were let go, but he volunteered to stay for overtime.

With Zhao Meng sick on leave and even Yao Shi stepping in, it wouldn’t look good if he just left after his shift!

In this regard, Gu Yunwu always handled things well.

When Fu Yu left, he was seen off with bags and packages as he got into the car.

Upon returning, he only carried a light bag of kitchen tools.

His departure had made quite a scene; the kitchen staff all knew he had an in-home service gig.

Gu Yunwu, with more informed sources, knew that the order Fu Yu received was assigned by the boss.

Seeing Fu Yu back, Gu Yunwu quickly completed the final plating process and personally handed the dishes to the server.

Instead of hurrying back to his station, he came around to find out how Fu Yu’s catering service went.

As he approached, he overheard Yao Shi asking Fu Yu, ”How did it go? Was everything smooth?”

Fu Yu honestly replied, ”The banquet went smoothly, but... when I first arrived, Boss Yang changed the menu because of his father’s health. Fortunately, a last-minute helper was brought in, and with the two of us working together, we managed to serve all the dishes on time. The Yang Family was quite satisfied, don’t worry!”

As Yao Shi asked, Sun Qingning and the other juniors also gathered around.

Upon hearing Fu Yu mention the last-minute menu change, everyone’s hearts were on edge, but they relaxed only after hearing the satisfactory end.

Yao Shi curiously asked, ”Last-minute help? Who was it?”

Fu Yu said, ”Luo Rang, the head chef from the Four Seas Banquet.”

Yao Shi was surprised, ”Luo Rang? Him!”

Fu Yu nodded, ”Yes, it was thanks to Chef Luo’s help today; otherwise, we might have really run out of time.”

Fu Yu’s words were merely polite.

In truth, even without Luo Rang’s help, he could have completed the banquet smoothly.

But with Luo Rang there, he was indeed less busy.

And since Luo Rang was specially invited by the Yang Family, the relationship must be significant.

With ears everywhere, saying something tactful wasn’t a bad idea if it ever got out.

Yao Shi knew Luo Rang, having dined together a couple of times, and found his personality not bad; so he said, ”That’s quite fortunate. Luo Rang is the lead chef at the Four Seas Banquet, didn’t expect Boss Yang to have such connections to bring him over.”

”You don’t need to work the night shift today; pack up and go rest...”

Today’s catering service meant Fu Yu, according to store policy, could rest after returning.

Though it was said that way, given the current situation, especially with Yao Shi likely having contributed much for today’s service, Fu Yu tidied up but didn’t head home to rest. Instead, he stayed on his own accord and continued cooking.

Yao Shi urged him once, but seeing no avail, just grinned and said no more.

After the evening shift, Yao Shi went to the parking lot to get his car, just happened to be going the same way as Gu Yunwu, so they walked together.

As luck would have it, just as they reached the parking lot, they ran into Boss Dong Jun Tian driving out.

Yao Shi and Gu Yunwu quickly stopped and greeted Dong Jun Tian.

Dong Jun Tian casually asked, ”Has Fu Yu returned? How did the family banquet go at Old Yang’s?”

Yao Shi casually replied, ”It went well, quite smoothly, but due to Elder Yang’s health, Boss Yang made some last-minute menu changes. Luckily, with some help today, Elder Yang was quite satisfied.”

Dong Jun Tian didn’t expect a last-minute menu change, his heart tightened initially, but relaxed upon hearing it was resolved smoothly, nodding, ”That’s good.”

Gu Yunwu smilingly said to Dong Jun Tian, ”Boss, I heard about it too. Didn’t expect Boss Yang to have such connections to invite a head chef from the Four Seas Banquet to help, we owe them a great deal this time!”

What Gu Yunwu wanted was to make Dong Jun Tian realize that Fu Yu was still too young to manage an in-home service, handling an entire table on his own.

Yao Shi knew this couldn’t be hidden, and although somewhat irked by Gu Yunwu’s petty behavior, he said, ”Indeed, today we were fortunate to have Chef Luo, and as Fu Yu said when he returned, it would have been less smooth without Chef Luo’s help at dinner.”

As shrewd as Yao Shi was, it was better that he said it than Gu Yunwu.

Moreover, he deliberately emphasized that Luo Rang was there just to help, and Fu Yu was the main chef for the banquet.

As the three chatted, Dong Jun Tian’s phone suddenly rang; it was a call from Yang Zhifang.

Knowing tonight’s banquet went successfully and Elder Yang enjoyed it, Dong Jun Tian answered with confidence.

”Old Yang, how was it? Was the food to Elder Yang’s satisfaction tonight?”

Yang Zhifang expressed his gratitude, ”Very satisfied! Old Dong, you must thank Chef Fu for me, today’s banquet really put Chef Fu through a lot! It’s his remarkable culinary skills that allowed him to handle it all by himself.”

Yang Zhifang explained his father’s health condition and the reason behind the last-minute menu change.

”My brother-in-law was worried Chef Fu might not manage, so he specially invited Chef Luo from the Four Seas Banquet, who remarked that Chef Fu’s culinary skills were superior! Despite the tight schedule, Chef Fu managed to prepare the entire banquet on time, and my father was very pleased, it was excellent!”

”So, please thank Chef Fu for me properly! I was in such a rush, I didn’t even have time for polite words!”

Yang Zhifang’s words left Dong Jun Tian completely flabbergasted!

It turned out the Yang Family banquet was all done by Fu Yu.

Curious, Dong Jun Tian asked, ”You mean, tonight’s banquet was done by Fu Yu alone?”

Yang Zhifang confirmed, ”Yes, tonight’s banquet was all done by Chef Fu himself. Chef Fu’s culinary skills are exceptional! Old Dong, you’re truly thoughtful! If you have time these days, do come by to visit my place. My father heard about our good relationship and wants to meet you too!”

Seizing the chance to climb the impressive Yang Family ladder, Dong Jun Tian was all smiles and cheerfully agreed, ”Sure!”

They chatted a bit more before ending the call.

Beside them, Yao Shi and Gu Yunwu, who had listened to the entire exchange, had mixed expressions.

Neither had anticipated that tonight’s banquet was single-handedly pulled off by Fu Yu, nor that he received compliments from the head chef at the Four Seas Banquet.

Yao Shi felt honored, as Fu Yu, being under his management, brought him glory with his outstanding performance.

Gu Yunwu’s expression changed, feeling his face burning uncomfortably.

Yet, tough-skinned as he was, he managed a smile and said to Dong Jun Tian, ”Seems the Yang Family was really pleased with the banquet tonight!”

Having just been invited over as a guest, Dong Jun Tian was in high spirits and chuckled, ”Indeed, Fu Yu did a great job today.”

He then turned to Yao Shi and instructed, ”Make sure to inform finance tomorrow, give him a 200 yuan reward!”

Yao Shi nodded in agreement.

Dong Jun Tian drove off.

Yao Shi looked at Gu Yunwu, ”Lao Gu, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you.”

Gu Yunwu paused for a moment, ”What is it?”

Yao Shi asked, ”I’ve heard that quite a few of your clients have started going over to Old Zhao?”

Gu Yunwu: ”...”

Yao Shi said, ”It seems you’ve been slacking off at work recently, that’s not okay. Also, look at Old Zhao’s Fu Yu and then your Yao Yihang! Think about what this implies when you get back.”

Gu Yunwu took a deep breath, feeling his face burn even more!
