The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Fu Yu agreed to let Sun Qingning take charge of lunch, so he went over to communicate with Yao Yihang.

Chef Gu also had two prepared dishes on his side.

Fu Yu would cook a meat dish, while Yao Yihang would prepare two vegetarian dishes.

The soup would be the chilled fresh jellyfish soup from the cold storage, with plenty to go around.

During the meal, Fu Yu specially served Zhao Meng half a bowl of rice.

Being exposed to cooking fumes all morning and occasionally taste-testing, the appetite would inevitably be somewhat affected.

Zhao Meng preferred eating less per serving to avoid losing his appetite from looking at a full bowl of rice.

But after Fu Yu finished two bowls of rice and two bowls of soup, he looked up to find that Zhao Meng hadn’t even finished his half bowl of rice.

Fu Yu leaned over and asked in a voice only the two of them could hear, ”Why are you eating so little?”

Zhao Meng shook his head, ”No appetite, maybe I didn’t rest well last night.”

Fu Yu wanted to say more, but Zhao Meng put down his chopsticks, ”You should eat more. If we get busy tonight, who knows when we’ll get to eat.”

With that, he stood up and walked away.

Fu Yu noticed something was off about Zhao Meng and made a mental note of it.

In the afternoon, things were fine; he took it easy with a couple of small-scale orders.

In the blink of an eye, it was meal time and suddenly it got busy.

The order taker came back with more orders.

Zhao Meng glanced over and picked out a few dishes to keep, handing the rest to Fu Yu.

In just that moment, Fu Yu saw Zhao Meng’s body sway, and in the next second, he was about to collapse to the ground.

With quick reflexes, Fu Yu rushed over in two steps and caught Zhao Meng’s arm, holding him up.

When he made contact, Fu Yu’s heart skipped a beat.

Zhao Meng’s body was noticeably sagging, with no strength to support himself.

Fu Yu quickly adjusted his stance, firmly supporting Zhao Meng under the armpit with one arm and securing his waist with the other, managing to stabilize him without letting Zhao Meng make a scene.

”Chef Zhao, are you okay?”

Fu Yu didn’t dare raise his voice, keeping it low as he asked.

Zhao Meng shook his head, ”No, I can’t stand...”

Zhao Meng’s speech was becoming weak.

Fu Yu felt anxious, ignoring everything else, and hurriedly supported Zhao Meng towards the back door.

No matter what, he had to get him to a hospital first.

As he moved swiftly, Zhang Jinyu, the assistant standing by Zhao Meng, panicked.

When Zhao Meng had his incident, Zhang Jinyu was prepping ingredients nearby. Turning around, he saw Fu Yu supporting Zhao Meng out, with Zhao Meng looking as limp as a piece of mud, completely being carried.

Zhang Jinyu panicked at the sight and immediately ran after them, stretching out his hands to help support Zhao Meng.

His panic caused others around to notice something was wrong, and they quickly surrounded.

Everyone was flustered, trying clumsily to help.

Fu Yu quickly stopped and said, ”Chef Zhao just has a bit of low blood sugar, I’m taking him back to rest, you all continue with your work.”

Fu Yu displayed calmness on the surface, but internally he was a mess; Zhao Meng’s body was limp with no strength.

The symptoms were alarming, and Fu Yu didn’t know any first aid. All he could think of was to quickly get him to a hospital for treatment.

No one around could be counted on; Fu Yu was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, sweat bead trickling down his forehead.

He feared Zhao Meng’s condition might be severe, his heart pounding.

”Chef Zhao! Chef Zhao!! How are you feeling?”

While supporting Zhao Meng to the back door, Fu Yu asked with concern.

Zhao Meng was utterly weak, his lips slightly parted, speaking feebly, ”Get Chef Yao to take me to the hospital, you, you go take the orders, the guests are waiting!”

Zhao Meng’s voice was faint, and with the bustling kitchen noise, it took guessing for Fu Yu to understand his meaning.

Reaching the back door, using the wall for support, Fu Yu held onto Zhao Meng with one hand and pulled out his phone with the other to call Yao Shi.

”Chef Yao, Chef Zhao has collapsed, can you come over and take him to the hospital? We’re in the corridor by the back door...”

Then, Fu Yu called Sun Qingning: ”Don’t make a fuss, come over to the back door right now and go with Chef Yao to take Chef Zhao to the hospital...”

Sun Qingning arrived first, lending a hand to support Zhao Meng.

Fu Yu instructed, ”When Chef Yao arrives, go with them to the hospital, and update me immediately with any news!”

Sun Qingning quickly agreed.

Fu Yu handed Zhao Meng over to Sun Qingning, ”You wait here, Chef Yao will be here soon.”

Hearing that Yao Shi was on his way, Sun Qingning felt a sense of relief and nodded quickly.

He supported Zhao Meng, bracing against the wall, letting Zhao Meng lean in his embrace.

Fu Yu didn’t delay further.

It was prime meal time, orders had to be cooked immediately, or impatient customers would become a problem!

Fu Yu had just started cooking when Yao Shi came rushing through the door and raced towards the back door without stopping.

Gu Yunwu saw him and asked, ”Hey, Chef Yao, what’s got you in a rush?”

Yao Shi had no time for small talk, waved, and spotting Fu Yu, he hurried over.

Seeing him coming, Fu Yu quietly said, ”Chef Zhao is in the corridor at the back door, Sun Qingning is with him. Chef Yao, please take Chef Zhao to the hospital...”

Yao Shi nodded and without further words, dashed towards the back door.

And Fu Yu, all he could do now was quickly cook all the ordered dishes.

The order sheet Zhao Meng had torn was picked up by Zhang Jinyu and placed back on the counter.

Fu Yu picked it up and stuck it to the kitchen wall, reviewing the dish orders from start to finish.

He estimated the cooking order in his mind.

Without wasting time, he fired up the stove and poured oil, starting with the dishes that could be quickly stir-fried.

By now, the news of Zhao Meng’s sudden illness had spread through the entire kitchen.

Seeing this, Fu Yu instructed Zhang Jinyu beside him, ”Don’t spread anything about Chef Zhao’s condition, if asked, just say it’s low blood sugar!”

Zhang Jinyu paused briefly and seeing Fu Yu’s serious expression, quickly nodded.

Gu Yunwu, busy with orders earlier, hadn’t noticed the situation. Hearing the news now but unable to leave, he sent Yao Yihang over to inquire.

Yao Yihang, having just finished plating, heard about Zhao Meng’s collapse and quickly turned to look.

Sure enough, at the kitchen counter, Fu Yu was the only one cooking, and Zhao Meng’s stove was turned off.

Seeing this, Yao Yihang squinted, put down his work, and quickly walked over.

”What happened to Chef Zhao? Wasn’t he fine just now?”

”Is it serious? Is he okay?”
