The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

It’s impossible to have an open confrontation over this matter.

And there’s no trick to use in the shadows either.

After all, the two of them are now completely separated in their duties.

Even in the kitchen, it’s like two different departments, each managing their own team, doing their own work.

Gu Yunwu thought it over and realized he probably didn’t have many days left to slack off.

After all, Yao Yihang isn’t a fool. Even if he didn’t catch on before, after a while, he surely will.

If it doesn’t work out, he’ll have to do what Zhao Meng did and get an assistant chef for Yao Yihang, just like before.

Just then, Gu Yunwu received a call from the boss, Dong Jun Tian.

He said the provincial TV station wants to do a program promoting local tourism and food specialties.

Qianlima Restaurant has been selected for the special food promotion section, and TV crews will come to shoot and interview us.

Getting on provincial TV is a great promotional opportunity.

Although the main focus is on promoting tourism, people always say ’Food is the first necessity of the people.’ Tasting local specialties is an essential part of travel.

Once the show airs, customers will naturally come flocking in.

Gu Yunwu has always been eager to please his boss, Dong Jun Tian.

Dong Jun Tian considers him a trusted ally and has never treated him poorly.

This time, the interview’s representative in the kitchen will definitely be Yao Shi, but another chef can also be featured, and Dong Jun Tian decided to give this opportunity to Gu Yunwu.

After all, the kitchen now takes orders separately.

When customers come in, Gu Yunwu’s commission will increase as well.

Upon hearing this, Gu Yunwu was delighted and said flatteringly, ”Boss, you’re truly amazing! For our restaurant to be chosen for a provincial TV show, it shows we have notoriety!”

Dong Jun Tian laughed proudly, then remembered something and asked, ”By the way, the TV producer asked me to report in advance what dishes we’ll prepare for the interview. What do you think we should promote?”

Gu Yunwu thought for a moment and suggested, ”Our restaurant is famous for its longstanding reputation, so we should definitely promote our signature dishes!”

Gu Yunwu’s suggestion struck a chord with Dong Jun Tian.

Qianlima Restaurant is an inheritance passed down from Dong Jun Tian’s ancestors.

It’s been passed down through generations, and he is the fifth generation.

Many of the restaurant’s signature dishes have been handed down through his family.

Even though they’ve been innovated and improved to meet market demand and customers’ tastes later on,

they still maintained the essence.

Some cooking methods of a few signature dishes have always kept the traditional style.

The taste is exactly the same as it was back then.

Dong Jun Tian is most proud of this.

He has always dreamed of one day promoting his family’s ancestral dishes.

To let everyone know that these dishes actually originated from the Dong Family, created by their ancestors.

Gu Yunwu voiced his inner thoughts, further pleasing Dong Jun Tian.

That’s why Dong Jun Tian values Gu Yunwu; he really knows when to curry favor.

Having successfully flattered, Gu Yunwu then mentioned his concern: ”Boss, since Chef Yao is doing the interview, will he be willing to let me appear on camera?”

Dong Jun Tian didn’t take this issue seriously and casually said, ”Whether he’s willing or not, what’s the difference? In the end, it’s my decision. Besides, when the TV crew comes, they’ll do a rehearsal before formal shooting, just perform well, and what can he say?”

Having received the boss’s promise, Gu Yunwu happily flattered him a couple more times before hanging up the phone.

Back in the kitchen, Gu Yunwu saw Yao Yihang busy sweating over the stove.

While this young man is ambitious and seems cunning at times, he certainly can’t be faulted for his work.

If it weren’t so, he wouldn’t have picked him to work by his side out of several people.

Initially, it was for convenience’s sake that he handed all his work over.

But since that’s no longer the plan, it’s time to draw people back in.

Gu Yunwu smiled mysteriously, waiting until Yao Yihang had finished his task, before casually walking over and patting him on the shoulder, gesturing him to step aside.

Once out of earshot, Gu Yunwu said, ”Xiao Yao, the provincial TV crew might come to the restaurant for an interview in the next few days, just got the boss’s notice for some preparation. I see you’ve been honing your cooking skills pretty well lately, I wasn’t going to say anything, but since it’s been brought up, let me give you some advice.”

Yao Yihang was astonished.

The provincial TV crew is coming to interview Gu Yunwu?

What does this mean?

Was the work shift recently really to train him?

Could it be...

Gu Yunwu watched Yao Yihang’s changing expression and continued, ”You should pay attention in general, and look closely at the people around. When the time comes to choose an assistant chef, you should consider many aspects. Having ability is one thing, but the key is they have to work smoothly with you. Do you get what I mean?”

Yao Yihang’s eyes immediately brightened: ”I understand!”

Gu Yunwu laughed: ”I knew you were a smart guy.”

Yao Yihang laughed too, ”Chef Gu, don’t worry, I’ll definitely work hard on my cooking skills.”

Gu Yunwu nodded, ”That’s good. But actually… it’s not just me on TV this time, Chef Zhao also has a chance. Even though the boss wants me to go, if Chef Zhao wants to compete, it could be a hassle.”

Yao Yihang’s eyes shifted and he said, ”Chef Gu, I have a way to keep Chef Zhao occupied so he’s not in the mood to compete for this opportunity.”

Gu Yunwu raised an eyebrow: ”Oh? Tell me.”

Yao Yihang: ”Our restaurant’s customer flow has noticeably increased these few days!”

Gu Yunwu didn’t understand: ”Hmm?”

Yao Yihang smiled mysteriously, ”We’re busy taking orders, Chef Zhao’s side isn’t less busy either. Fu Yu just started cooking solo, and he’s no better than me. I see Chef Zhao usually gives him a few simple dishes to handle, while the rest Chef Zhao does himself.”

”There’s no one else who can cook over there except Fu Yu, and he can’t manage a full table alone. When it gets really busy, they won’t even manage to handle orders, let alone prepare for an interview…”

Gu Yunwu was enlightened!

Exactly!

Over there, it may seem like Fu Yu is ready to take charge, but really, how long has he been cooking solo?

Whereas here, it’s different, Yao Yihang can completely take orders independently now.

When he wants to pass on work, he can step out anytime he wants.

Zhao Meng is busy every day, how could he have time to think about the TV interview?

If something does happen in the kitchen, considering the boss’s character, even with Yao Shi pleading for favor, he surely couldn’t save him!

Seeing Gu Yunwu’s delighted face, Yao Yihang timely added, ”Moreover, Chef Gu, we can also help him even more these few days.”

Gu Yunwu was taken aback, ”Help him?”

Yao Yihang whispered, ”Aren’t you acquainted with a lot of loyal old customers? We can also recommend them some signature dishes they haven’t tried much before, can’t we?”

Gu Yunwu and Zhao Meng each have their specialty dishes.

Customers who love Gu Yunwu’s dishes naturally haven’t had much of Zhao Meng’s cooking.

Gu Yunwu realized and laughed, patting Yao Yihang’s shoulder: ”You, you, understand me!”
