The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 333: Chapter 208: Hello! I Am Jiang An, the Forensic Doctor!

Seeing Jiang An standing stiffly in place as if an Immobilization Spell had been cast on him, Captain Li Jian’s heart skipped a beat.

The sharp instinct honed over years of criminal investigation told him that Jiang An must have made a significant discovery.

Li Jian dashed forward, his right hand landing heavily on Jiang An’s shoulder, urgently asking, ”Brother Jiang An, what new discovery have you made?”

Speaking, his brows furrowed into a knot as he secretly pondered: I’ve led my team to search this scene carefully twice and found nothing. What could Jiang An uncover by coming here again? As this thought arose, Li Jian felt a wave of frustration, the muscles on his face involuntarily twitching.

Jiang An slowly turned his head, his gaze lingering briefly on Li Jian’s face, a hint of hesitation flashing in his eyes. Then, he abruptly raised his gloved right hand.

”Mr. Li, there’s black dust on my glove!”

In an instant, Li Jian stood as if nailed to the ground, his feet firmly rooted, eyes wide as saucers, his gaze rapidly darting between Jiang An’s fingers and the keys.

He murmured, ”Are you saying this key...?”

The moment their gazes met, they nodded in silent agreement.

A glimmer of surprise flashed in Li Jian’s eyes, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly, as if his expression said, ”What you seek is all around you, yet you find it effortlessly.”

Noticing the anomaly over here, Wan and Zhang Yean jogged over.

Wan, full of curiosity, looked the two over from top to bottom.

Then, he grabbed the key on the table, shook it, and asked in confusion, ”What’s up with you two, standing here not moving?”

He turned the key over in his hand, held it up to his eyes, and scrutinized it closely, ”Nothing special, just an ordinary set of keys, right?”

After a while, Li Jian took a deep breath, collected himself, and said, ”This is no ordinary key; it might be crucial for the suspect to enter the scene...”

Before he could finish, the key slipped from Li’s hand, dropping downwards.

In a split second, Jiang An’s quick reflexes kicked in, he sidestepped, and his right hand darted out like lightning, catching the key firmly.

”What? You think this is the key the suspect used to unlock the door?”

”How could that be? Why would it still be at the scene?” Wan was full of shock, eyes wide with disbelief written all over his face.

Li Jian nodded, pointing at Jiang An’s glove, explaining, ”I couldn’t believe it at first either, but look at the black dust on Jiang An’s glove.”

Jiang An picked up the key, held it out to Wan, saying, ”Brother Wan, it’s a good thing I reacted quickly just now, or else if you dropped the key, the dust on it would be gone.”

Wan, a little embarrassed, scratched his head with a silly smile, ”Got too excited, couldn’t hold it steady.”

Then, Jiang An slowly opened his right hand to reveal some black particles between his palm and fingers.

He quickly turned around, glanced around the room, ”The room is clean and tidy, so these black particles on the key couldn’t have been formed by the two deceased. Therefore, these black particles on the key should have been left by the suspect.”

”What do you mean?” Wan pursued, full of urgency.

Jiang An, staring intently at the black particles on his hand, said firmly, ”Seeing these black particles, I suspect they might be carbon particles.”

”Carbon particles?” Zhang Yean also widened her eyes, staring intently at Jiang An’s palm.

”If they truly are carbon particles, then this set of keys was likely left behind when the suspect entered.”

Jiang An nodded forcefully, asserting, ”Given the current situation, that’s very likely.”

He glanced down at the black particulate matter in his palm.

”However, this is just a preliminary assumption. The next step is to send it to a specialized institute immediately for testing to see if it really is carbon element.”

Li Jian nodded in agreement, raising a hand to slap his thigh, saying, ”Send it to the Physico-Chemical Laboratory at the Evidence Identification Center of Jiangcheng Medical University for a detailed examination using a high-definition electron microscope.”

At this moment, Mr. Ma finished his call, hurriedly striding in. Upon seeing Mr. Ma, everyone stood at attention and nodded in greeting.

Mr. Ma asked, ”Li Jian, how’s the scene investigation going?”

Li Jian quickly stepped forward, straightening his back, and reported, ”Mr. Ma, initial judgment suggests that the reason both victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning is likely because a third party brought in a device capable of producing carbon monoxide, like burning charcoal.”

Then, Mr. Ma’s gaze fell on the set of keys in Jiang An’s hand.

He took two steps forward and asked, ”So, is there something wrong with this set of keys?”

Jiang An met his gaze and replied, ”Mr. Ma, there are black carbon particles on these keys. I suspect the suspect might have used this set of keys to open the door.”

”Open the door?”

Mr. Ma’s face instantly filled with surprise as he turned and quickly stepped towards the security door.

”There’s nothing wrong with this security door, is there?”

Li Jian followed closely, answering, ”When we first checked, the door was intact.”

Mr. Ma frowned, pacing back and forth.

He then asked, ”So how did the suspect get hold of these keys?”

”That’s indeed a big question.”

Li Jian said, stroking his chin.

”I remember when we first inspected the scene, both keys were inserted in the shoe cabinet.”

Finally, Mr. Ma said, ”It seems the suspect’s counter-investigation skills are strong, likely intending from the start to cover his crime of murder in this way.”

After a long time, Mr. Ma stopped pacing, hands clasped behind his back, and said, ”I think there aren’t many people who could gain access to these keys.”

”After all, as life experience dictates, everyone takes good care of their home keys.”
