The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 330: Chapter 206: Either Generated Internally or Introduced Externally

”So, regarding the source of carbon monoxide, we haven’t found it yet.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Ma suddenly stopped in his tracks.

He stood there, pondering for a while.

This weather, besides gas water heaters producing carbon monoxide, are there other possibilities?

Li Jian on the other end of the phone continued, ”We are quite puzzled ourselves.”

”Even the Jiangcheng fire brigade finds it strange, they couldn’t think of other ways that could produce carbon monoxide.”

The phone call fell silent for a while.

In the end, Mr. Ma remembered the initial conclusion made by the Jiangcheng Medical University on the cause of death, that both victims died due to alcohol intoxication.

He said sincerely, ”We must clarify the cause of death for the two deceased.”

”Absolutely!”

Li Jian immediately replied.

”Initially, after forensic examination at Jiangcheng Medical University, it’s been preliminarily determined that the cause of death was due to alcohol intoxication.”

”But today at noon, you told me it’s death due to carbon monoxide poisoning.”

”For this conflicting conclusion, we must reconcile it.”

”You’re right, Mr. Ma.”

”As it stands, there’s a significant discrepancy between Jiang An’s analytical conclusion and the professor’s conclusion from Jiangcheng Medical University.”

Mr. Ma sighed.

”Mr. Li, we all recognize Jiang An’s unparalleled investigative skills.”

”However, no matter how outstanding, one cannot guarantee they are correct every single time.”

”You are right, Mr. Ma. When it comes to determining the cause of death, we need to exercise utmost caution as it directly impacts the entire case direction.”

Mr. Ma on the other end of the phone said, ”Whether it’s concluded as death due to alcohol poisoning or carbon monoxide poisoning, in terms of nature, they are both accidental deaths.”

”But if we conclude it’s death due to carbon monoxide poisoning, then where does the carbon monoxide come from?”

”It’s unsettling for us to explain the results to the family members and even for us internally.”

After a pause, Mr. Ma sighed and said, ”I think it’s necessary for Wu You, the old forensic expert, Jiang An, and the professors from Jiangcheng Medical University to sit down together and discuss professionally to reach a consensus.”

At that moment, Li Jian felt as if the phone was a thousand pounds, only sensing an overwhelming pressure in his mind.

He hurriedly said, ”Of course, it’s important to involve the originator to resolve the issue.”

”We can only proceed with the next step once we ascertain the cause of death.”

Finally, Mr. Ma said, ”Thank you for your hard work.”

”If you need me to communicate with the leaders at Jiangcheng Medical University, feel free to contact me.”

”Yes, Mr. Ma!”

”If there’s any new development, we’ll report to you at the earliest.”

After hanging up the phone, Li Jian turned and opened the door.

However, as soon as he opened the door, he saw Jiang An standing at the entrance.

”Mr. Li, I have a small request. Could you honor it?”

Li Jian was a bit taken aback by the sudden request.

”Jiang An, go on.”

”I wish to re-examine this scene.”

”Re-examine the scene?”

Li Jian turned his head and surveyed the surroundings.

His mouth twitched slightly.

”This scene spans less than 80 square meters, 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, and 1 bathroom, everything visible at a glance.”

”Moreover, our technicians have meticulously examined it twice before. Do you see the need for further inspection?”

Li Jian was very tactful but conveyed his meaning.

Jiang An said in a deep voice, ”Mr. Li, I’m aware there are discrepancies in the determination of the cause of death.”

”Nonetheless, I stand by my viewpoint.”

”I’m a forensic doctor; I trust the corpse doesn’t lie.”

After a long pause, Li Jian nodded.

”I know you’re an excellent forensic doctor.”

”But there’s a distinction between subjective inference and objective observation.”

Jiang An said steadfastly, ”Mr. Li, I trust my professional judgment.”

Li Jian initially wanted to comfort him, suggesting he take a break.

However, seeing his determined expression, he dismissed his own idea and temporarily set aside Mr. Ma’s arrangement.

In Jiang An, Li Jian seemed to see a younger version of himself.

The dedication and passion toward their profession.

After a long time, Li Jian slightly parted his lips, raised his hand, and patted Jiang An’s shoulder.

”Alright, alright! Stick to your viewpoint and earnestly delve into it; this is the core principle of our criminal investigation.”

”I agree with you to re-examine the scene.”

Jiang An glanced at Li Jian and nodded.

Then, Li Jian turned and walked to the entrance.

He said, ”Mr. Qin, thank you for your strong support this afternoon.”

”We need to continue our work here, so please rest first.”

”Mr. Li, if there’s anything you need, feel free to contact us.”

Li Jian nodded.

However, as Mr. Qin turned to leave, he said in a deep voice, ”Personally, I find it improbable for this place to produce carbon monoxide.”

”Therefore, please be cautious in concluding whether the deceased died of carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Li Jian nodded, ”I understand, thank you for your reminder.”

Seeing off Mr. Qin and his team, Li Jian turned and said, ”Comrades, although this scene is small, there’s much to think about and explore.”

”So, we’re going to re-examine the scene.”

”This time, we’ll have Mr. Jiang lead, and we’ll assist vigorously.”

Upon hearing this, Wan and Zhang Yean both opened their mouths slightly, looking surprised.

Does this scene still require re-examination?

Aside from the bed, sofa, a desk, and some simple household items, there are no other things.

In the midst of everyone’s puzzlement, Jiang An spoke, ”Earlier on, we didn’t find the source of carbon monoxide.”

”However, we cannot rule out the presence of carbon monoxide indoors at the time of the incident.”

”I believe the corpse won’t lie, and the testing equipment won’t lie.”

”Now, I’m considering whether it’s possible that carbon monoxide was brought in by outsiders.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Wan chimed in, ”Junior, I know you strongly believe in your forensic conclusion, but this is the fourth floor.”

”Even if someone uses a pipe to introduce carbon monoxide into the room, it’s quite unlikely.”

Promptly, Zhang Yean added, ”Could it be that someone brought charcoal along, produced carbon monoxide, and then fled?”

As soon as she spoke, Jiang An replied, ”Sis, don’t rule it out.”

”I genuinely think it’s possible someone brought charcoal, ignited it, and left after causing the deaths.”

Instantly, Zhang Yean widened her eyes, looking incredulous.

”Junior, I was just randomly guessing, don’t take it too seriously.”

With a serious look on his face, Jiang An said in a deep voice, ”I’m serious.”

”If this room doesn’t naturally produce carbon monoxide, then carbon monoxide might’ve been brought in by others.”

Following that, Jiang An continued his analysis, ”The external carbon monoxide could be gaseous or solid.”

”As Senior Wan mentioned earlier, with such a high floor, the likelihood of gas being piped in is minimal.”

”Thus, ruling out the first possibility, the second becomes more plausible.”

”It’s likely someone brought an apparatus producing carbon monoxide, poisoned and then left.”

Wan was stunned, giving a thumbs-up.

”Junior, your imagination is abundant—I’m impressed.”

At this time, police officer Zhou asked, ”If someone did bring charcoal indoors, why is there no trace of ash on the ground?”

Jiang An responded, ”It doesn’t necessarily have to be burnt on the ground!”

Then, he turned and said, ”We’re starting the third site inspection now.”

”I firmly believe that if you’ve been here, you’ll leave clues.”
