Chapter 322: Chapter 202: Jiang An’s Doubts

Zhang Yean pondered for a while after listening.

”I also found it strange when I heard that two people had died at the same time.”

”However, if both died from alcohol poisoning after drinking, I think it seems acceptable.”

”Initially, we also found it strange and treated this case as a homicide investigation.”

”But, in the end, no anomalies were found, no signs of struggle, no bodily injuries, and no thefts.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An frowned slightly.

He already understood the basic situation of the case.

Although he didn’t have the full details of the case yet, he had grasped the key points and contradictions.

After a while, Mr. Ma spoke up, ”The city’s leaders also attach great importance to this case and demand that we must get to the bottom of it.”

”The two deceased are very special; both are high-profile individuals introduced to Jiangcheng City.”

”One is from the power company, and the other is from the coal quality exploration department.”

He then glanced at Jiang An.

”Comrade Jiang An, you just returned from the Crime Investigation Team.”

”There, you worked with the experts, which also expanded your way of thinking and was an opportunity to learn.”

”So, I hope you can still give it your all in this case, use your intellect, and work with Li Jian to turn this into a solid case.”

”Yes! I will definitely remember Mr. Ma’s instructions.”

Mr. Ma gave Jiang An a meaningful look.

”I just like you enthusiastic and driven young people.”

Finally, Mr. Ma said sternly, ”You three just returned from the Crime Investigation Team, all worn out.”

”Go home and have a good rest today, and sort through this case tomorrow.”

”If you have any ideas, you can directly tell me or speak with Captain Li Jian.”

Jiang An nodded.

”Rest assured, Mr. Ma, we will certainly remember your instructions and strive to thoroughly investigate this case.”

Soon, two police cars left the highway entrance together.

Inside the police car.

Zhang Yean turned and said, ”Wan, where are you going? I’ll give you a lift.”

”My girlfriend is watching a movie at Qian Da Mall, drop me off at the entrance of the mall.”

”Sure.”

He then asked, ”Jiang An, where are you headed?”

Jiang An replied, ”Just take me to the Crime Investigation Team, I’ll go back and look into the case.”

”Are you working overtime at the office again?”

Zhang Yean asked with concern.

”Mr. Ma just told you to rest for a day.”

Wan pouted and said, ”Even a workhorse needs to rest sometimes.”

”Going back to watch a movie with your girlfriend and enjoying some couple time is also a very pleasant and relaxing thing.”

”Haha, no need! I don’t have a girlfriend yet.”

”Just a lone wolf here, you guys go have fun.”

Then, Wan said, ”Might as well leave my brother’s lifelong matter to you, sister.”

”You have so many female friends, you should create some opportunities for him to meet beautiful women.”

”Brother! That’s a daunting task.”

”As a big sister, I’ll definitely find an outstanding woman for my brother and see if there’s any chemistry.”

minutes later, Jiang An returned to the Crime Investigation Team.

He went straight to the Crime Investigation Team’s office.

At this moment, the office was empty.

However, on the whiteboard in the office, it read ”7.24 Couple Death Case.”

On this whiteboard, the personal information has been sorted out, including the deceased’s identities, place of death, nature of death, handling of relationships among investigators...

Male deceased Chen Guang, 27 years old, employee at the coal quality exploration department.

Female deceased Liang Yan, 25 years old, employee at the power company.

Around 8 a.m. on July 24, a friend from the power company found the two dead in bed, both unclothed.

Scene investigation: the doors and windows were closed, and no property was missing.

The day before’s activities: the two first dined and drank white liquor with friends, then went to a barbecue joint to drink beer.

Returned home around 10 p.m.

...

Jiang An stood in front of the whiteboard observing for a long time.

Then, he slowly squinted and mentally processed all the information...

After a moment, he slowly opened his eyes and turned to see a thick case file on the table next to him.

The cover of the case file was titled ”7.24 Couple Death Case.”

He walked over and picked up the case file.

This case file was very thick. Besides a lot of detailed investigation reports, there were also many photos.

From the initial scene investigation to the autopsy, every corner, every piece of skin was meticulously recorded in photos.

Immediately, Jiang An focused his thoughts on the photos, not wanting to miss any detail.

In Jiang An’s opinion, every crime scene requires a calm mind to observe to uncover its mysteries.

Every crime scene contains many things we cannot recognize.

8:20 p.m.

Suddenly, a gentle knock came from the door.

Jiang An lifted his head slightly and found Zhang Yean standing there.

She was holding two cups of coffee.

”Hey, sister, why are you here?”

Jiang An asked in surprise.

Zhang Yean glanced around and said, ”Everyone went out for nightlife, you’re the only one in the entire office.”

”I was just taking a walk nearby, and I brought you a cup of coffee on my way.”

As she spoke, Zhang Yean handed over the coffee she was holding.

”Have you had dinner?”

Jiang An nodded, ”I just had a pack of instant noodles.”

Zhang Yean frowned slightly and said softly, ”Oh no!”

”Don’t eat instant noodles in the future, too much is bad for your stomach.”

”You should take care of your health, or it will deteriorate at a young age.”

Jiang An smiled, ”It’s okay, eating it occasionally is fine.”

Saying this, Zhang Yean glanced at the case file on the desk.

”Is this the case they were talking about?”

Jiang An nodded.

”Is it complicated?”

”I find it not simple; the entire scene is very calm, no trace of a third person, no signs of external impact on the bodies.”

Zhang Yean continued to ask, ”Could it really be an accident that two people died?”

Jiang An did not immediately answer this question.

”Could it be food poisoning?”

Jiang An shook his head and said, ”The night before, the two ate with four other friends and had barbecue afterward.”

”But nothing happened to the other four.”

”Does it look like they indeed died from excessive drinking?”

Jiang An glanced at the photos.

After a brief consideration, he said, ”Just now, I looked at the two’s alcohol level reports.”

”Both had high alcohol concentrations, near the lethal threshold.”

Zhang Yean looked puzzled, ”Doesn’t that mean they died from alcohol poisoning?”

Jiang An stood up and walked a few steps back and forth.

”The alcohol poisoning death concentration values in the books apply to the general public.”

”Some people have individual differences, different alcohol tolerances.”

”For example, some can walk straight after drinking half a liter, while others are tipsy after a glass.”

”The key point is that these two weren’t autopsied immediately after death.”

”Autopsy was conducted after a period of freezing.”

”Decomposition bacteria in the body produce some ethanol, affecting concentration detection.”

After a moment of thought, Zhang Yean guessed, ”So, are the two victims’ alcohol concentrations lower than reported?”

Jiang An nodded again.

”Judging by the decomposition process, it should have increased the alcohol content in the deceased’s body.”

Finally, Zhang Yean curiously asked, ”This makes the initial cause of death determination questionable.”

”If the two victims didn’t die from alcohol poisoning, what was the cause?”
