The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 328: Chapter 205: Is There Any Other Possibility?

”Mr. Wang, pour them a cup of tea!”

Just as the words fell, one of the long-haired women started to sob.

”Leader, you must seek justice for us! I am Chen Guang’s mother.”

”Chen Guang has always been obedient since he was young. He was our only son, and he died most unjustly.”

At the same time, another middle-aged woman said, ”Our Liang Yan, although not much of a drinker, was always careful when drinking and never got drunk.”

”We do not believe they died accidentally from drinking.”

”We do not accept the forensic results from Jiangcheng Medical University.”

”We request a re-evaluation of the cause of death.”

...

When Mr. Wang brought over four cups of tea, Mr. Ma got up and personally handed them out.

”Please accept our condolences!”

”No one wishes for these things to happen.”

”Rest assured, I have been in the police service for over thirty years and approach every case with full dedication and meticulous care.”

Then, Mr. Ma said gravely, ”There are some new developments in this case.”

”New developments?”

”New developments?”

Instantly, the two middle-aged women stopped crying.

The four of them all looked up at Mr. Ma.

Meanwhile, inside the Jiangcheng Talent Apartments.

A red fire truck drove in.

Five minutes later, firefighters dressed in blue uniforms walked in carrying equipment.

”Mr. Qin, thank you for your hard work!”

Li Jian stepped forward and greeted him.

Mr. Qin smiled and said, ”It’s all for investigative needs, no need for thanks.”

”Mr. Li, what support do you need from us?”

Li Jian replied, ”We are about to conduct an experiment simulating carbon monoxide generation from a gas water heater. Please measure the indoor carbon monoxide concentration and ensure no personnel are at risk.”

Mr. Qin smiled after hearing that and said, ”No problem!”

”We will absolutely ensure your safety.”

At this time, Wan had found an electric fan from the property center.

He asked, ”Mr. Li, can we start now?”

”Hold on a moment, I need to report this to Mr. Ma.”

Immediately, Li Jian took out his phone and dialed Mr. Ma’s number.

”Mr. Ma, I have something to report to you.”

”Go ahead.”

”High levels of carbon monoxide were detected in the bodies of the two deceased. We currently suspect poisoning by exhaust from a gas water heater.”

”We have already begun a site investigation experiment in cooperation with the fire department, reporting to you as a formality.”

After hearing this, Mr. Ma raised his eyebrows.

”Is the cause of death confirmed?”

”Reporting to Mr. Ma, the cause of death has been confirmed. As Jiang An said, both deceased should have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.”

”We are now seeking the source of the carbon monoxide. If determined to be from the gas water heater, it can basically conclude the case as an accidental poisoning death.”

Hearing this, Mr. Ma felt a surge of excitement.

He immediately said, ”You must find the source and ascertain all the facts of the case.”

”But, the prerequisite is to ensure your personal safety.”

”Mr. Ma, rest assured! With the fire department colleagues, we are very safe.”

After hanging up the phone, Mr. Ma looked at the four family members in front of him and said in a deep voice, ”According to our operating procedures, the status of the investigation is generally uniformly communicated to you.”

”However, seeing your concern about the direction of the investigation, I’ll make an exception and disclose our case progress to you. Please keep it confidential.”

Chen Guang and Liang Yan’s parents repeatedly nodded, ”Yes, we’ll keep it confidential!”.....

Mr. Ma said, ”Through repeated examinations by the forensic team at our municipal bureau, carbon monoxide content was found in the deceased’s body.”

”We believe the cause of death for the two deceased was carbon monoxide poisoning, not alcohol poisoning.”

”Carbon monoxide poisoning?”

”Carbon monoxide poisoning?”

Instantly, the four family members opposite looked directly at Mr. Ma.

”As for the source of the carbon monoxide, we are conducting an investigative experiment and believe there will be results soon.”

After a long pause, Liang Yan’s father said, ”Please be sure to find out the facts and uncover the truth.”

Mr. Ma, with a determined look, replied, ”Rest assured, this is our duty as police officers, and we will certainly reconstruct all the facts.”

At that moment, inside Room No. 1 on the 4th floor of the Talent Apartments, Li Jian, Jiang An, and others had already begun to take action.

Jiang An turned on the floor fan, placing it by the window so that the wind would blow towards the kitchen entrance.

After all this was done, Li Jian turned on the showerhead in the bathroom.

Instantly, the gas water heater made a ”roaring” sound.

The firefighters had already placed carbon monoxide detectors in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Half an hour later, the carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen began to sound.

In an instant, Wan rushed out of the kitchen.

Mr. Qin came over and glanced at it, saying, ”This brother, don’t worry, it’s only reached the alarm threshold indicating a risk of poisoning.”

Jiang An walked over and glanced at the meter’s reading.

”Is the reading very low?”

Mr. Qin replied, ”At the current concentration, if someone were in here, they might have mild symptoms of poisoning, like dizziness or nausea.”

”However, for safety’s sake, I still advise everyone to temporarily retreat to the living room.”

Immediately, everyone left the room, standing at the door.

Another half an hour went by.

Suddenly, the carbon monoxide alarm in the bedroom began to sound.

Wearing gas masks, Li Jian and Jiang An went over.

Mr. Qin looked at the sensor.

”The current concentration is still very low, with only a slight presence of carbon monoxide in the air.”

At this time, Jiang An stood aside, lost in thought.

After an hour of continuous use of the water heater, only a trace amount of carbon monoxide was present in the bedroom.

Based on the forensic estimation of the time of death, the two deceased died around 11 PM the previous night, while they returned around 10 PM.

Even if they showered immediately upon returning, the gas water heater’s use wouldn’t exceed one hour.

Suddenly, Jiang An began to question the accuracy of the carbon monoxide generated by the heater.

A moment later, Jiang An said, ”Mr. Li, I think the investigative experiment can end now.”

”End it?”

”End it?”

”End it?”

.....

Everyone looked surprised.

Mr. Qin looked down at the detector in the bedroom.

”This reading is far from lethal.”

”So we don’t continue to wait for carbon monoxide to accumulate?”

Wan also urged, ”Bro, we aren’t in a rush right now.”

”The purpose of our investigative experiment was to see if the concentration in the bedroom could reach a lethal level.”

At this time, Li Jian crossed his arms, not speaking, lost in thought.

A minute later, Jiang An said in a deep voice, ”The carbon monoxide in the deceased’s body was not from the gas water heater.”

”Not from there?”

”Not from there?”

Instantly, everyone’s expressions became even more puzzled.

Mr. Qin, holding the detector and looking around, said in a deep voice, ”The most likely source of carbon monoxide in this room is the kitchen.”

”Exactly!”

Wan slightly opened his mouth, wanting to speak but hesitated, ”Bro, why don’t we finish the experiment and then talk?”

Immediately, Jiang An said each word meticulously, ”Because the gas water heater’s burn time wouldn’t exceed one hour.”

Standing opposite, Li Jian understood instantly after hearing this.

He turned to look at Jiang An, nodding lightly.

Then, Li Jian looked at the kitchen.

He pondered, if carbon monoxide wasn’t from the gas water heater, could there be any other sources?
