Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

He Yue lifted her face, wiped the tears off her cheeks, and murmured to Ning Chenyang, ”Is this true?”

She was already homeless, and at this moment, her brother’s life or death was also unknown. She really needed a home, a refuge.

”It’s true. I’m not lying to you!” Ning Chenyang raised his hand to help wipe her tears and said, ”Don’t cry. It’s not very safe here now; I need to move you to a safe place first.”

”Mmm-hmm,” He Yue agreed through her tears.

But when the warriors went to carry away the bodies of He Fusheng and Liang Xiuzhu, He Yue collapsed in tears, heartbroken, like a person made of tears.

Ning Chenyang spent a great deal of effort to separate He Yue from the two corpses, and he carried the nearly fainting He Yue to the safety zone.

In the three days after the disaster, Qin Jian had been holding the line with the warriors on the front line of the earthquake rescue. The continuous aftershocks made the disaster area perilous.

The battalion commander participating in earthquake rescue repeatedly requested Qin Jian to leave. In such a dangerous place, severe accidents could happen at any time, making it truly unsafe for the commander to stay here.

The key was that he was not just anyone; he was the commander of the entire army group!

During these three days, the number of casualties kept increasing. Witnessing numerous life-and-death separations among the disaster victims and seeing homes reduced to ruins weighed heavily on Qin Jian’s heart, as if a heavy stone had been placed on it.

What continually occupied his mind was the safety of the He Family. More than seventy-two hours had passed, and they still hadn’t found the He Family, making the odds of survival seem very slim.

He paced anxiously in the command tent, knowing that in just over an hour, he had to leave. The helicopter transporting supplies was due to arrive soon.

If he couldn’t get news about the He Family, he would have to leave with regret.

”Report!” Just then, the voice of a warrior suddenly came from outside the command tent.

”Come in.” Qin Jian turned around and saw his son, Ning Chenyang, standing outside. The scorching sun had peeled a layer of skin off his face, and fatigue was evident in his handsome features.

”Report, Commander. We just found He Yueyue and her family in the ruins. Unfortunately, Uncle He and Aunt Liang both died in the earthquake. He Yueyue survived because her parents protected her with their lives! He Mu went out to work, reportedly in Jinchuan County Town, but is currently missing, with no news at all.” Ning Chenyang briefly reported the state of the He Family to Qin Jian.

He knew this situation was what his parents and brother had been constantly concerned about!

Qin Jian’s heart seized in pain. He sighed deeply and asked Ning Chenyang, ”Where is He Yue now?”

”She is resting at the settlement area. Don’t worry, she’s doing well!” Ning Chenyang reassured his father.

”Bring her to see me! The sooner, the better!”

”Yes!”

He Yue had already had some water at the settlement point. She was sitting on the ground with her knees in her arms, deeply burying her head in-between them.

”He Yueyue!” Ning Chenyang approached her, gently patting her on the shoulder, and said, ”My dad wants to see you. Come with me for a bit!”

”Uncle Qin?”

”Mm!”

”Okay.” He Yueyue stood up from the ground and walked behind Ning Chenyang. Just then, the ground suddenly shook gently twice, and she quickly reached out to tightly hold onto Ning Chenyang’s arm, shouting in fear, ”Big brother...”
