Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

This kind of student is beyond his teaching capabilities.

In all his years of teaching, he had never encountered a child like this.

He Fusheng repeatedly apologized to the teacher, pleading with him not to expel Ning Chenguang, promising she would educate him properly.

”Can you really educate him? Why not just let him drop out and free up a spot for children who actually need education?” The teacher was very angry, and he was never polite to students who were rebellious and just going through the motions.

He Fusheng had no other tools at her disposal besides apologies and promises.

Ning Chenguang heard this, rubbed his sleepy eyes, got up, and said to the teacher, ”I already know everything you’re teaching. So, I don’t want to listen.”

”You know all of it...?” The teacher didn’t believe it at all. The kid wasn’t very big but sure could boast.

”Why don’t you test me.”

Fine, he’d test him! The teacher would not be intimidated by this little kid.

He started with math before moving on to language.

The math problems were extremely easy for Ning Chenguang; he solved them as if he were playing a game.

When it was time for the language test, he asked for ten minutes to review.

The teacher agreed, thinking Chenguang might try some trick during those ten minutes, but unexpectedly, when the time was up, Ning Chenguang closed the book and didn’t even need to answer questions.

He recited the book from beginning to end without making a single mistake.

This utterly shocked the teacher.

Ning Chenguang became a sensation at the school.

Just like that, he had been at school for over a month, and now it was already October. Ning Chenguang was still sleeping through classes and leaving when bored.

However, the teachers have tacitly accepted it.

At the village entrance, on the persimmon tree at the foot of the mountain, Ning Chenguang half-reclined on a branch, his legs dangling in the air, eyes gazing into the blue sky contemplating something.

”Hey, Captain, you really don’t want a bite of persimmon? They’re so sweet,” Pang Di, who also skipped class to come out with Ning Chenguang, asked while following him up onto the branch, craning his neck to find a soft persimmon.

”No, I don’t.” Ning Chenguang shook his head.

”Suit yourself.” Pang Di took a juicy bite and tossed the persimmon peel down. ”Why do you seem uninterested in everything lately?”

Ning Chenguang remained silent.

Pang Di seemed to remember something. Happily, he came up close to Ning Chenguang, saying, ”Hey, Captain, I’ve discovered something. I think it’s a good time for our squad to take action.”

”What is it?” Ning Chenguang replied casually, without much interest.

”Jiang Wanwan, you know her, right?” Pang Di said.

Ning Chenguang’s heart skipped a beat, and in his mind’s eye appeared a teary image of her eyes that he couldn’t shake off. ”Yeah.”

”You know? Her family seldom looks after her. They’re all away working for money. Only her grandparents are there to take care of her. Before, she would happily call me Brother Pang whenever she saw me, but now she just turns away and leaves!”

”Is there a... problem with that?” Ning Chenguang asked, cautiously looking at Pang Di.

”Yes! Of course, there’s a problem,” Pang Di said after thinking hard for a long time. ”These past few days, since you weren’t in the village, I’ve noticed Wanwan often sits alone on the doorstep, daydreaming. I wonder what’s on her mind. Just now... she looked just like you.”

Ning Chenguang coughed uneasily, straightening up and leaning on the branch. ”What’s the big deal? Maybe it’s just because she’s in a bad mood.”

”No! I’ve discovered something even stranger,” Pang Di said.
