Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Is this true?” An Hao asked, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

”Of course it is. I wouldn’t lie to you. I’ve been paying close attention to Big Brother’s condition all along!” He Yueyue said earnestly.

An Hao looked down at Ning Chenguang and gazed at him with a questioning look.

”Yes, Mom. I do feel much better... even...” He hesitated before continuing, ”sometimes I feel like I’m completely healed.”

”Is what you’re saying true, Guangguang?” He Fusheng was so excited upon hearing this that he slapped his thigh, ”If this is true, it’s wonderful. It means the time spent recovering here wasn’t in vain. As long as you get better, we’ll all be so happy.”

”Why didn’t you tell us?” Liang Xiuzhu was both surprised and delighted. They had long treated Ning Chenguang as their own child. Hearing that he was better made them happier than anyone else.

”I... I don’t want to leave you,” Ning Chenguang said softly.

An Hao immediately understood what the child meant.

If Ning Chenguang was healed, she would certainly take him away from He Family Manor.

And who knew when they would see each other again?

After living here for almost a year, the He Family treated him as their own child.

He was naturally reluctant to leave.

”Guangguang, how about you go for a check-up with Mom? If you’re well, you should go back to Nancheng! If you’re not yet fully recovered, you can continue to stay here...” An Hao sought his opinion.

Ning Chenguang nodded, ”Alright then.”

Having made their decision, An Hao planned to stay the night and then take Ning Chenguang back to Nancheng early the next morning.

That night was possibly the happiest time Ning Chenguang had had in a while.

Not only were his friends here, but also his mother’s company.

After dinner, he went around the village with An Hao, chasing fireflies, and played hide-and-seek with An Hao and his friends.

At night, he and An Hao lay in bed, gazing through the window at the crescent moon hanging in the sky, quietly savoring the serenity and beauty of the village.

Only when he was too sleepy to keep his eyes open did he fall into a deep sleep.

The next morning marked an ordinary farewell for Ning Chenguang and the He Family.

No one expected that this check-up would end his life at He Family Manor.

Especially He Yueyue, who stealthily whispered to Chenguang as he was about to leave, ”Remember to bring me some delicious bread, Big Brother, okay?”

”Don’t worry! I’ll definitely bring some back for you! I’ll bring a lot, enough for you to eat through the winter,” Ning Chenguang replied half-jokingly.

”It’ll go bad for sure. I don’t want moldy bread.”

”Hahahaha!” Ning Chenguang laughed heartily, flicking He Yueyue’s forehead playfully, ”You’re not silly at all!”

”You’re annoying.” He Yueyue rubbed her forehead, unable to suppress a laugh, ”Go on, then! I never want to see the annoying Big Brother again.”

An Hao and Ning Chenguang bade farewell to the He Family and returned to Nancheng City.

Without delay, she took the child straight to the affiliated hospital for a check-up.

The results of this check-up surprised everyone and gave An Hao an unprecedented sense of relief.
