Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Ning Chenguang shook his head and closed his mouth again.

An Hao knew that pressing further wouldn’t yield any answers, so she decided not to ask anymore. She thought for a moment and told him everything she could: ”Okay. As long as something makes you uncomfortable or unhappy, stay away from it! Got it?”

”Mhm.”

”So is this considered a bad thing?” Ning Chenguang asked.

”Yes,” An Hao said through gritted teeth, determined to protect her son as much as possible.

”Mom, I understand now.” Ning Chenguang nodded, and An Hao’s words planted a seed in his young heart. This seed germinated as he grew, bringing a bit of brightness to his confused and dark childhood.

The He Family’s yard was now in sight.

With An Hao’s guidance, Ning Chenguang stepped into this familiar place, one step at a time.

”Big brother!” He Yue, who was resting her chin in her hand, was frowning in deep thought. Suddenly, she saw the figure entering the yard, and she jumped three feet high in excitement.

She ran down from the steps in the yard and rushed forward, hugging Ning Chenguang tightly, rubbing her little head against his chest. ”Big brother, why didn’t you say goodbye when you left? You’ve been gone for so many days. I was really worried you wouldn’t come back!”

”Yueyue... I’m about to suffocate.” Ning Chenguang said with difficulty.

”Sorry! Sorry!” He Yue quickly released Ning Chenguang and pouted, saying quietly, ”Big brother, don’t be mad at me, okay? I won’t argue with you anymore, and I won’t be angry with Wanwan either, okay?”

”Okay. Actually, I don’t like Wanwan.” Ning Chenguang said.

”Really?” He Yue’s eyes lit up.

”Of course. I like Yueyue...” Ning Chenguang said, his little face blushing.

”Big brother, you’re so nice! Yueyue likes you too.” He Yue was so happy that she rushed over and gave Ning Chenguang a kiss on the cheek.

Swish~

Ning Chenguang blushed all the way from his face to the base of his neck.

Qin Jian watched for a while, then coughed lightly, leaning in close to An Hao’s ear and whispering, ”Yueyue probably has a crush on Guangguang; she’s on her way to becoming your daughter-in-law in the future!”

”Don’t talk nonsense. What do kids know?” An Hao said dismissively.

”Uncle and Auntie are here!” He Mu, who was inside reviewing his lessons, heard the commotion outside. He quickly put down his pen and came out, just in time to see Chenguang’s parents bringing him over.

”He Mu! How have you been lately?” Qin Jian greeted this thirteen or fourteen-year-old boy.

”I’m doing well. Uncle and Auntie, come in and have a seat. My parents have gone to the fields and will be back by noon!” He invited Qin Jian and An Hao to come inside and rest.

”No, I have things to attend to back at the base, so I have to leave right away.”

”Then can Auntie stay for a few days? Big brother often misses you!” He Yue knew Ning Chenguang’s feelings best.

”Auntie can’t stay right now. But Auntie has vacation time, and I promise I’ll come and stay with Guangguang for a few days when I get the chance, okay?” An Hao patted He Yue’s head, thinking he was very sensible.

”Okay. My brother and I are looking forward to your visit.”

”Alright, it’s a deal!”

Qin Jian, realizing he had a few minutes left, called He Mu over and handed him a gift he was carrying: ”These are books your Auntie specially picked for you to read! Here, take them!”

”Thank you, Uncle!” He Mu thanked him sensibly and happily accepted the gift, which he really liked.

”Also, I have a very important matter to ask for your help with!” Qin Jian said.
