Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Capítulo 1957: Chapter 1950: One-Time Deal

There was not much happening at the base, so he came home early.

Once home, An Hao held Chenyang, went upstairs, fed him some milk formula, and cradled him to sleep.

After the child fell asleep, An Hao sighed and lay down beside him.

Seeing her furrowed brows and troubled expression, Qin Jian sat nearby and comforted her, “It’s normal for children to get sick, don’t worry too much!”

“I know. It’s not that which is troubling me now…” Chenyang’s illness was already improving, with two or three more days of IV, the child would be back to his lively self, but An Baoguo…

“Tell me about it, I hope I can share your burden,” Qin Jian said.

“My uncle has cancer, it’s already at a late stage, the cancer cells have spread throughout his body, he probably doesn’t have much time left. Jiang Guixiang came to me today asking for money to treat her husband! She even knelt down in front of me!”

An Hao only stated the facts, but Qin Jian could understand her underlying meaning.

Previously, because of debt issues, both families had had unpleasant interactions. Due to the younger sister’s matters, both families had vowed never to have any dealings again.

Now Jiang Guixiang, because of An Baoguo’s cancer, was pleading An Hao for money to save him. Whether An Hao gave money or didn’t, she was equally tormented in her heart.

“I know you’re unwilling, but after all, there’s blood relations. He probably doesn’t have much time left, just do what you can,” Qin Jian advised An Hao.

“I understand.” An Hao nodded, knowing what she had to do.

The next morning, An Hao went to the hospital.

She went straight to the old military doctor and asked him to come up with a treatment plan.

The old military doctor honestly told her that at this stage, treatment would just waste money.

An Hao understood in her heart, thanked the old military doctor, left the hospital with the treatment plan, and once again went to the rented house.

Standing at the door, she heard a series of violent coughing fits coming from inside.

The sound was painful, as if one’s entire lungs were being coughed out.

An Hao furrowed her brow and was about to knock, then heard voices from inside.

“Old An, drinking some water might make you feel a bit better. I went to the hospital to visit An Hao today, she agreed to give us money, and once we have the money, I’ll take you for treatment.”

“Forget it… cough cough cough… No need for any treatment, the doctor already said to let me eat whatever I wish. It’s already late stage, I don’t have months left…”

“Don’t say that, you can live, I will find a way to get you treated.” Jiang Guixiang’s voice was clearly shaky with sobs.

An Hao couldn’t help but feel touched. Her uncle’s family was not kind to them, but treated their own family quite well.

“Why waste that money.” An Baoguo coughed violently again after he finished, and once he calmed down he said, “Here’s the plan, first ask An Hao for as much money as possible, the more the better… Once you get the money, we’ll take it and go, once I’m gone, that money can be used by you and our son to live. It’s a lump sum, we should go big.”

“I don’t want that money! I just want you alive, old man!”

“Don’t be foolish. At crucial times, you foolish woman, why can’t you do the maths? No treatment for my illness, with the days left just prepare some good food for me, I won’t last much longer!”

“No! I just want to treat your illness. Stop saying anything…”
