Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1896: Chapter 1897: Seeking Husband

”Tian Niu... don’t be quick to feel sad! I’ll be returning to the troops after some time. Tell me about your daily life so I can relay it to your sister-in-law, to ease her worries about you...” Hong Mei said.

”Then you must let me think, let me think how to tell Shuangshuang.”

”Alright, take your time, I’m not in a hurry. Let’s eat the wontons, think while eating...” Hong Mei said, stuffing the chopsticks into his hand.

Shortly after the child was discharged from the hospital, Gu Shuangshuang and her younger sister brought Nannan to Xixiang Hexi Village to find Tian Niu.

Tian Niu was on a secret mission, and the details and location of the mission couldn’t be disclosed to Gu Shuangshuang.

An Hao, seeing the mother and daughter facing difficulties, felt Gu Shuangshuang’s longing for Tian Niu to be urgent. Therefore, he inquired about the address from the father-in-law and told Gu Shuangshuang, instructing her to keep it absolutely confidential.

Using the address given by An Hao, Gu Shuangshuang exerted immense effort and finally took a bus to Hexi Village.

The village entrance was a bustling market area, with various vendors gathered along the road, lively and crowded.

Tian Niu’s younger sister, who grew up in the village, was not unfamiliar with such a scene; instead, she was very excited upon seeing it: ”Sister-in-law, I didn’t expect this place to have a market too. It’s crowded and lively, let’s go and gather some information.”

”Even if we inquire now, we might not be able to see your brother. We need to find a place to stay first,” Gu Shuangshuang stopped and said.

She couldn’t rashly show up; otherwise, if the leader found out, Tian Niu would certainly be punished.

Even if Tian Niu isn’t punished, she didn’t want to involve An Hao and the others.

”Where can we stay in this village?” Tian Niu’s younger sister asked, a bit bewildered.

”Taking care of the elderly living alone. Paying a month’s rent should allow us to stay for a few days.” If it doesn’t work out, she could also find the village secretary of Hexi Village, and after revealing her military status, they would surely find a way to arrange something for her.

”Alright then.” Tian Niu’s younger sister agreed, glancing at the child sleeping on Gu Shuangshuang’s back, she said tenderly, ”Poor little Nannan, at such a young age, she’s traveling far with you to find daddy.”

Gu Shuangshuang sighed deeply and said helplessly, ”There’s no other way. Your brother is on a mission and only able to come home once a year. It’s uncertain when it will end... What else can I do if I miss him? I can only make the effort to come here to see him.”

”Mm. Sister-in-law, I support you!” Tian Niu’s younger sister said.

The sisters-in-law continued on, already past noon, both hungry.

Ahead was the market, and they thought of grabbing some food before continuing on.

The market was crowded and lively, with shouting and sales pitches, waking up the child Nannan sleeping on Gu Shuangshuang’s back. Nannan opened her eyes, curiously looking around, neither crying nor fussing.

”Sister-in-law, look...” Tian Niu’s younger sister pointed from afar at a wonton stall and said, ”There’s won’ton and noodle stalls there, let’s go eat something.”

”Mm.” Gu Shuangshuang, tired from walking, headed over to rest her feet and chat with some locals to gather information.

The sisters-in-law quickened their pace toward the wonton stall, but before reaching it, Tian Niu’s younger sister suddenly stopped.
