Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1866: Chapter 1866: The Only Flaw

This was her first time coming to the military unit, and she had no idea which road this was or where it led. Since it was her first time, Hong Mei didn’t dare to speak much, afraid of revealing anything.

She just carried her bag, eyes observing everything around, trying to find the barracks of the communications company.

This place was indeed vast, with many intersecting roads. She occasionally passed squads of warriors whistling as they marched, and sometimes a military vehicle roared by.

It turned out that the environment in which Gan Tian lived was so good.

Hong Mei inadvertently kept thinking of Gan Tian. She shook her head with a frown, as if trying to drive away these annoying thoughts.

”Gan Tian! You’re back!”

”Gan Tian, is your mother doing well?”

”Gan Tian, hurry back to the dorm, Lin Miao is about to go crazy missing you! In her own words, she’s fallen for you, and not seeing you for a day feels like three years!”

Comrades from the same squad passed by Gan Tian, and greeted her one after another. Gan Tian responded to their questions with nods and smiles.

She walked towards the place where those female warriors came and went, suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached from behind.

Immediately, she felt a gust of wind pass by her ear, and a pair of hands stretched out.

Instinctively, Hong Mei grabbed that hand and swiftly executed an over-the-shoulder throw with lightning speed.

”Ouch! That really hurts! Tiantian, when did you become so violent? It’s not fun anymore, not as fun as before!” Lin Miao rubbed her waist with both hands, stood up from the ground, and looked at Gan Tian with a face full of grievance.

”There needs to be something new, right? Always playing the same thing gets boring!” Hong Mei spoke, her voice carrying a hoarse tone.

”You’ve certainly got something new. You’ve almost thrown me to death!”

Hong Mei smiled, ”In the future, we need to learn to change. Life that stays the same is dull and uninteresting.”

”Oy, you went home once, and your brain seems messed up?” Lin Miao circled around her three times, shaking her head, ”Indeed, it’s true that you should view each other differently over three days!”

”Alright, stop messing around and quickly take me back to the dorm! These few days have exhausted me.” Hong Mei took the opportunity to put her arm around Lin Miao’s shoulder and followed her back to the dorm.

”Tiantian, how’s your mother doing?” Lin Miao asked as they walked.

”She’s fine now.”

”Tiantian, your voice seems a bit off!” Lin Miao stopped walking, her gaze falling on Hong Mei’s face.

Hong Mei paused. If there was anything different between her and Gan Tian, it was the voice.

Everything else she could mimic to perfection.

The only different thing was this machine-like distinctive voice.

This could not be changed.

”Cried!” Hong Mei snapped back to reality and said, ”At that time, my mother’s illness was severe to the point of almost dying. I went home and cried, cried every day, cried until my voice went hoarse! As a result, now my mother is fine, many days have passed, but my voice hasn’t returned.”

”Your vocal cords were probably damaged by your crying. I have a classmate who was in the art troupe, she kept crying because of heartbreak and damaged her vocal cords. Now she’s retired and back home. You should be careful too, as you’re a communications officer, we have to answer thousands of calls every day! If your voice is damaged, it can have some impact.”

”Hmm. Okay, I got it!” Hong Mei nodded.

From today on, Hong Mei successfully replaced Gan Tian’s identity, infiltrating the military unit.
