Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1887: 1887 Hongmen Banquet

”I’ll go along with whatever you all want to eat.”

”No, sis, you’ve really helped our family a lot! If it weren’t for you last time, we might still be on the run! It was because you scolded me awake that I have what I have today.” Although An Hui despised An Hao, he spoke with apparent sincerity, ”So, this meal is also to thank you, sis. Please, order two more dishes.”

”It’s not easy for you to make money. I think I’ll pass.” Before she was sure about An Hui’s intentions, An Hao didn’t dare to be careless, just in case it was a setup.

She didn’t like getting close to people like him; keeping a certain distance was better.

”Just order, why are you being so fussy?” An Baoguo couldn’t take it, his son had finally made something of himself, but people refused to show respect, isn’t that infuriating?

”Second Uncle, don’t say that. My sister’s just thinking about An Hui, saving him some money. How can that be called being fussy?” An Ping disliked seeing others target An Hao and always spoke up in her defense.

”What? Are you looking down on your cousin?” Jiang Guixiang cast a sharp glance, her tone filled with malice, ”We were poor before, but now your cousin has skills and makes money. He just wants to treat you to something nice. Look at you all, acting so arrogant!”

”What do you mean by that?” An Ping got annoyed in an instant, ”We just want to help you save some money. How is that wrong? You’re totally misinterpreting our goodwill.”

”Second brother, your wife’s wrong about this!” An Shuchao, who had been silent, finally spoke, ”The kids are well-intentioned; can’t you tell good from bad words?”

”Brother, isn’t An Hui sincere? We feel grateful to your family and want to repay the kindness. You should give us this chance, right?” An Baoguo’s tone was much firmer than before, lacking the previous servile attitude.

”Alright, everyone stop arguing! Listen to what my sister says. Whatever she decides, that’s what we’ll do,” An Hui said.

”Exactly, is it worth arguing over a meal?” An Ping muttered.

The dishes were all served. Although the restaurant was small, the chef was quite skilled.

The food was vibrant, aromatic, and flavorful.

Looking at the table full of dishes, An Hao noticed there were as many as twelve.

Clearly, it was too much for the people at the table and seemed quite wasteful.

”Are you planning to host a Manchu-Han Feast?”

”Sis, look at what you’re saying. I’m sincerely trying to thank you here. You and your brother helped us so much in the past. I’m not heartless or completely unreliable! It’s just that in the past... never mind, let’s not bring it up. Come on, sis, let me toast to you first.” An Hui raised his glass, his attitude very respectful.

Since things had been said to this point, An Hao didn’t refuse. She also raised her glass and downed it in one go.

”Come on, let’s all raise our glasses together!” With the help from his son, An Baoguo also felt a sense of pride.

After a few rounds of drinks, An Hao asked her question: ”This table of dishes must have cost quite a bit, right?”

”How much could it really be?” Jiang Guixiang looked at An Hao with smugness, ”Let me tell you, my son has money now. A table of food and drink is nothing to us. Just the other day, we even had bird’s nest soup.”

An Hao’s brow faintly furrowed, and she glanced at An Hui: ”What kind of job do you have? It sounds like it brings in money pretty quickly!”

An Hui could tell right away what An Hao was thinking, but he had already prepared for this.
