Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1863: Chapter 1863: The Dark History

Gan Tian was shocked.

She couldn’t believe it: ”Impossible.”

”Sister also doesn’t want to believe it. But, it’s a fact!” A hint of pain flashed in Hong Mei’s eyes.

”And the sister? What happened to the sister later?” Gan Tian pressed on.

”She was taken away by a trafficker! She was sold. After several twists and turns, she was sold overseas...” Hong Mei closed her eyes, and the past replayed before her like a black-and-white movie.

Over these years, she had suffered greatly, using every bit of her wit just to survive.

Those days of inhumanity, neither human nor ghost, were painful just to think about.

She longed for the carefree days of her hometown, under the acacia trees in May, where their mother sat by a small table, stitching clothes and sewing embroidered balls for them, one stitch at a time.

”Impossible? Sister isn’t that kind of person, right?” Gan Tian said, but she felt a deep pain in her chest, and her head ached as if it were about to split.

”Impossible? You should ask yourself if your sister is that kind of person!” Hong Mei squinted, a cold gleam in her eyes, ”Do you want to know who this pair of sisters is? The sister is called Gan Tian, and her life truly matches her sweet name. The younger sister is called Gan Meng! But her life is not beautiful at all!”

”No... impossible!” Gan Tian listened for a long, long time, ”I don’t believe it, you’re lying to me, deliberately making up a story for me. I don’t believe it! Because this story doesn’t exist in my memory at all.”

”You’ve forgotten! Such an important thing, and you’ve forgotten! I dare not forget, not a single day or night over these past years. I’ve endured so much hardship, suffered so much pain, I dare not forget even a bit! The kind of pain you can’t bear or imagine. Hundreds of children fighting each other to death! In the end, only two survived! I’m one of them! I am Gan Meng!” Talking about this past, Hong Mei almost broke down.

This memory she could seal away, because it was so dark that every time she recalled it, it felt like experiencing it again.

Every time she remembered, her hatred for Gan Tian deepened.

Yes.

She hated this sister.

She could have had a beautiful life, but her sister ruined it.

If not for this, perhaps she would have entered the military art troupe by now, becoming an honorable performing soldier.

And certainly not become a professional spy.

”Hong Mei, don’t joke around. I really have no memory of this! Don’t scare me, even if I had a sister, how could I have left her behind?” Gan Tian said, tears falling drop by drop.

The glistening tears soaked through her collar, her chest wet and cold.

”Are you feeling guilty now?” Hong Mei raised her lips, sneering.

”No. My mind is very empty! Very empty! I remember nothing!” Gan Tian shook her head, raising her hand to wipe her tears, but they only flowed more.

”Whatever you say.” Hong Mei’s face instantly turned sullen, ”Acting like this only makes me hate you more and more! For over ten years, the belief that kept me going was to kill you, to completely destroy your life!”

She almost shouted these words, her already somewhat hoarse voice sounding even more hoarse.

Her voice used to be as soft and pleasant as Gan Tian’s; it was countless cries, endless crying in the later days that made it like this.
