Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1854: Chapter 1854: Is It Worth It?

After working a night shift, An Hao returned home.

Coincidentally, she arrived just as the family was having breakfast. The two little ones were each waving a spoon, clumsily sipping porridge from their bowls.

Seeing An Hao return, they paused and stared at her with big eyes, mumbling, ”Mama... Mama...”

An Hao went up to kiss the children, and as she sat down, Zhang Yun had already served the food, ”Tired? Eat up!”

”Not tired. Just a bit sleepy.” After staying up all night and doing a surgery, her feet felt a bit light.

”Eat and get some rest,” Ning Yibin put down his chopsticks and said, ”Your body is your own, don’t overwork it.”

”Thank you, Dad.”

After the meal, An Hao lay down on the bed and quickly fell into a hazy sleep. It wasn’t long before she heard Zhang Yun calling her from outside the door, ”An Hao, wake up!”

”Mom, what’s wrong?” An Hao opened the door, draped in an article of clothing, still showing signs of tiredness on her face.

Seeing her daughter-in-law looking so exhausted, Zhang Yun couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache, ”Oh, An Hao, there are some things I really didn’t want to tell you, but I can’t not say anything.”

”Mom, just tell me. What’s going on?”

”Ji Chuan called. Your dad has been beaten up and hospitalized,” Zhang Yun said, ”He’s at the affiliated hospital.”

”Oh my God!” An Hao held her aching head, knowing full well exactly why without needing any explanation from her mother-in-law.

”Go quickly! I heard your second uncle was also beaten up,” Zhang Yun said, feeling perplexed, ”When did you get a second uncle?”

”That’s a long story. I’ll go to the hospital first, we’ll talk when I get back!”

”Let Xiaoliu take you!” Zhang Yun shouted from upstairs.

The security officer, Xiaoliu, drove An Hao to the hospital.

As soon as she entered the hospital room and saw the situation, An Hao gasped sharply. Her father and second uncle were lying side by side on two hospital beds, both badly bruised and with casts on their legs.

In the corner of the room sat two people.

One was Jiang Guixiang, and the other was An Hui. They both had minor injuries, but their wounds seemed much lighter.

Watching her father lying on the bed in pain, An Hao felt both heartache and anger, ”Dad, was it worth it?”

An Shuchao felt too ashamed to face his daughter, turning his head away, ”An Hao, I’ve troubled you again.”

”You know you’ve caused trouble!” Tears streamed down An Hao’s face as she wiped them away with her hand, ”How did you end up like this?”

”They hit us! Debt collectors!” An Baoguo’s face was wrinkled in misery, ”An Hao, I told you, but you didn’t believe me! They came for debt, if we didn’t pay, they’d hit! Look at how injured we are, your dad and me.”

”Why are your injuries so light compared to my dad’s?” An Hao repressed her inner anger, pointing at Jiang Guixiang and An Hui, ”And what about them? Weren’t they in the fight? Why are they unharmed? What really happened?”

Both Jiang Guixiang and An Hui hung their heads, avoiding An Hao’s sharp gaze.

”Speak! You must explain this to me today!” An Hao shouted in fury.

An Baoguo dared not speak.

Jiang Guixiang also hung her head, nudging her son An Hui from behind, ”You tell her.”

”Sis, those people barged into our house demanding money. When Uncle couldn’t give them any, they started hitting him!” An Hui dared not tell the full truth, giving An Hao a brief summary of the situation.
