Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1499: Chapter 1499: Worth Pondering

He shared his inference with Yan Huan.

Yan Huan found it very convincing, but there were two dubious points that baffled her, ”Brother, you said that young man knew where the letter was supposed to go, why didn’t he directly hand it over to you or Commander Ning, or someone else for that matter? Why did he insist on delivering the letter himself?”

Since he had thought of hitching a ride to the military camp, why hadn’t he thought of giving the letter to someone else?

Why such a stubborn insistence on delivering the letter himself?

And why was he so secretive about his own actions and whereabouts?

”Um. I’ve been pondering the issue you mentioned. It indeed is intriguing.”

”There’s another issue, I wouldn’t need to mention it, for you probably already know what I am about to say,” Yan Huan pointed at the parts of the letter that were clearly crossed out with a pen and said, ”Tell me, what’s this? Why is it crossed out?”

”Address.” Yan Ye immediately saw the issue, ”This letter discusses Qin Jian’s current situation, saying he was saved by a kind person. He’s currently recuperating and tells An Hao and her parents not to worry or be anxious. The subsequent content is crossed out with a pencil.

From his words, you can sense his eagerness to return to his wife and parents. However, he strangely left no address.

How are his family supposed to find him?”

”Exactly. Brother, you’re absolutely right. I think the address is missing. He himself wouldn’t have crossed out the address. Clearly, someone else did. Perhaps, it was the letter carrier who crossed it out,” Yan Huan analyzed quietly.

The letter carrier must have felt conflicted.

He wanted to deliver Qin Jian’s letter, yet was cautious, crossing out the address proving that he didn’t want anyone to know where they were.

Why is that?

Yan Ye’s logical thinking was always sharp, but this time, he couldn’t figure it out either.

However, analyzing it now had to be put aside as there were more urgent matters to attend to, ”Yan Huan, give me the letter! I need to visit Uncle Ning’s house.”

He needed to share this news with An Hao and Uncle and Aunt Ning.

............

The infant slept sweetly in the cradle, oblivious at their age to everything around them. Apart from eating and sleeping, blissfully unaware that their mother was engulfed in deep, excruciating grief.

Today, the military unit was holding a commendation ceremony.

Qin Jian had died a glorious death. As a military spouse, An Hao should have been the one to receive his first-class merit on his behalf.

But her in-laws stopped her.

What a cruel thing to endure! They couldn’t bear to let An Hao go through that.

At this very moment, An Hao sat silently at the bedside, fingers caressing Qin Jian’s photo as tears quietly fell.

Downstairs, a knock on the door echoed.

No one came to open the door right away. An Hao glanced at the sleeping child, tucked them in, and hurried downstairs to open the door.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw Yan Ye standing there: ”Mr. Yan, you’re here? Please, come in and sit down.”

Yan Ye noticed the red rims around An Hao’s eyes; she had obviously been crying.

This girl always remained painfully strong.

”Have you been crying?” he asked, smiling wryly, ”An Hao, calm yourself a bit because the news I’m about to bring might excite you tremendously!”
