Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1477: Chapter 1477: I Want to See Those Two Kids

An Hao didn’t speak, just walked straight towards the crevice left on the ground after the earthquake.

Gu Shuangshuang followed closely behind.

After the two arrived at the scene, An Hao silently stood there without saying a word, just quietly looking on.

When Gu Shuangshuang saw this, tears immediately welled up in her eyes.

Although she was usually brash and carefree, faced with such a situation, her heart felt as if it had collapsed, filled with sorrow and helplessness.

”Tian Niu, how could you be so heartless, to leave me and go like this... How am I supposed to get through the days to come?” Gu Shuangshuang cried as she spoke.

Hen Zhiyuan also felt very hurt when he heard this, he felt guilty, but thinking about the upcoming position as battalion commander, the guilt in his heart immediately vanished without trace.

An Hao looked at the pained Gu Shuangshuang, extended her hand to tightly embrace her shoulders, then turned her gaze towards Hen Zhiyuan and asked, ”How did Qin Jian and Tian Niu fall down there? What was the situation like at the time?”

”They fell while trying to save a pair of children who had lost their parents in the earthquake. Originally, it was just Battalion Commander Qin who was about to fall, but Regimental Commander Tian said he couldn’t just watch her go alone, so he jumped deep in to follow her down,” Hen Zhiyuan said with a sad face, ”Actually, I was right next to them at the time. I couldn’t hold onto both of them alone. So, just...”

After finishing his words, his eyes reddened, and he forcibly squeezed out two drops of tears.

An Hao stared at the tightly sealed crevice on the ground, feeling a large part of her heart grow cold.

Could Qin Jian still be alive?

Hen Zhiyuan seemed to see through An Hao’s thoughts, so he added, ”A few days ago, Division Commander Zhang couldn’t accept this reality either. He personally supervised the digging here for five days and nights. You can see, this hole is what was left from that time. Unfortunately... they couldn’t be found. We also consulted with the local rescue teams stationed here. They said after five days, the chances of survival are very slim.”

”So you’re saying, my husband is gone without a trace, and now if we want to bury him, we can’t even find the body?” Gu Shuangshuang sobbed, ”Are you planning to just give up like this? Why not dig them out? Why?”

”Don’t get agitated,” Hen Zhiyuan softly consoled Gu Shuangshuang, ”It’s the division commander’s decision. He’s worried that if the commander finds out, he won’t be able to handle the shock, so the news has been temporarily sealed. Our soldiers come here to dig every day. It’s just that they haven’t started today yet...”

An Hao raised her eyes to Hen Zhiyuan, and in his eyes, she could not see a trace of sadness.

Eyes are the windows to the soul; they do not lie.

Despite Hen Zhiyuan’s claims of heartache and sorrow, it was all fake.

The emotions revealed in his eyes were different from the emotions revealed in the eyes of other soldiers. Whether it be pain or not, An Hao could see it at a glance.

”Shuangshuang, let’s talk about this issue later.” An Hao patted Gu Shuangshuang’s shoulder and turned to Hen Zhiyuan, ”I would like to meet the two children who were rescued.”

”No problem. Come with me. These two kids are still in the medical team. They were both injured during the earthquake and are recuperating there.”

.........

In the medical team area, the two injured boys huddled together on a hospital bed, murmuring in low voices.

”Brother, why have you been so glum these past few days?”

”Xiaoguang, what if there are bad people among the PLA soldiers? What should we do?”
