Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1472: Chapter 1472: Can You Deliver a Message for Us?

The thick wooden door creaked as it opened.

A ray of sunlight shone through, accompanied by a piercing cold wind, and a girl around the age of seventeen or eighteen walked in.

The area between her brows was somewhat reddened, and her eyes brimmed with water, indicating that she had just been crying.

The girl walked in, closing the door with a loud clang, her gaze sweeping over Qin Jian and Tian Niu. Upon seeing their cracked lips, she stood up and walked over to the red-lacquered square table to pour two cups of hot water.

She let the hot water cool to just the right temperature and then carefully scooped it up with a small porcelain spoon, feeding it to the two men lying on the warm kang with their eyes closed.

”Drink up. If you’ve woken and heard me, swallow this water. Every bit helps,” said the girl in a soft and gentle voice.

Qin Jian’s Adam’s apple moved, and he slowly swallowed the water, then opened his eyes.

The girl sitting in front of him was unexpectedly beautiful, one of the prettiest ones he had ever seen, aside from An Hao.

”You’re awake,” the girl said excitedly upon seeing Qin Jian awaken, ”That’s great. I was really worried you wouldn’t pull through.”

”Thank you for saving us,” Qin Jian forced out the words from his parched throat.

The girl smiled, and her eyes crinkled like crescent moons, ”It’s my great honor to have saved PLA soldiers! I know you all must be heroes from the earthquake relief efforts.”

”How did you know?” Qin Jian was also eager for more news and began to chat with the girl.

”This whole area is within the earthquake zone. When I found you, you were lying on the ground, covered in injuries, obviously from falls. So, I guessed you were here for disaster relief,” the girl explained.

”Is the place we’re staying far from the worst-affected part of the earthquake zone?” Qin Jian asked.

”It’s probably not close,” the girl said, ”Are you worried your troops won’t be able to find you?”

”Yes,” Qin Jian sighed.

If they didn’t know he was still alive, who knew how many would be worried about him?

Of course, his wife and family would be even more distressed. The thought was even more heart-wrenching when it came to Hen Zhiyuan. Never in his wildest dreams did Qin Jian expect that at a life-or-death moment, his own military brother would let go, sending him plunging into this pitch-black crevice.

And even more unexpected was Tian Niu leaping after him, plunging down together.

”Don’t worry. Just focus on recuperating here first. Once you’re a bit better, I’ll help you get out,” said the girl.

”Could I trouble you to send a message for us? Let our main force know we’re here.” It would surely be quicker than waiting until they were fully recovered, right?

Sharing the news with their families sooner would save them unnecessary worry.

If the commanding officer found out, he would definitely arrange for both of them to be brought back to recover.

”I’m sorry. I’ve never left my little village, and I can’t read or write, so I don’t know how I could send your message,” the girl said apologetically.

Qin Jian’s heart sank, but he still managed a smile, ”You don’t need to apologize, we’re just lucky. If it hadn’t been for you, we might not have survived.”

”You’re too kind. I had the village doctor look at both of you, and your injuries are quite severe. The doctor said you need to rest well. I won’t disturb you any longer. If you need anything, just call my name. I’m Mu Mian.”
