Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1461: Chapter 1461: Leaping Forward

Boom —

The ground Qin Jian had kicked collapsed, sending rocks and dirt tumbling into the crack; the boy’s body instantly sank downwards.

Hen Zhiyuan had already tied the rope around his waist, and when the child plummeted, Zhiyuan tugged hard to catch him.

The child was saved.

But Qin Jian was not so lucky.

His whole body fell into the large crack. Just then, Tian Niu leaped to the edge of the chasm and reached out to Qin Jian.

In an instant, Tian Niu firmly grabbed Qin Jian’s hand; half a second later, and they would have missed each other.

” Tian Niu!” Qin Jian looked at him, a smile suddenly appearing at the corner of his mouth, ”You arrived just in time. If you had been even a little later, I would have been done for.”

”Captain...” Tian Niu chuckled, ”It’s just my lucky day. If you make it out this time, don’t forget my leap, alright?”

”Alright. How would you like me to thank you?” Qin Jian asked, gasping for breath.

”Spare me from penalties in the future! Give me more time off, especially since I just got married. You and your wife have kids already; I need to put in some effort to give Xiaotian to my mom,” said Tian Niu through clenched teeth, as sweat dripped down his forehead.

”Done. I’ll give you time for child-making. But let’s set that aside for now; the most important thing is, you need to pull me up first,” Qin Jian said.

”I... my arm hurts. Let me rest a bit,” Tian Niu grunted.

”Don’t rest. The more you delay, the less strength you’ll have. Just pull me up in one go...” Before Qin Jian finished speaking, he suddenly noticed blood slowly seeping through Tian Niu’s uniform.

It was the dead of winter.

Everyone was wearing thick cotton clothes.

If blood could seep through such thick cotton, what did it imply? Tian Niu was injured, and it was severe.

”You’re injured!”

Tian Niu took a deep breath and pulled with all his might, only to find the wound was painfully severe, and the blood-soaked area on his uniform was expanding.

”Tian Niu, if it really hurts too much, don’t move; just grit your teeth and wait for Hen Zhiyuan to come rescue us,” Qin Jian said, who had also been injured during the earthquake and had not spared any effort in their struggle.

Most crucially, Tian Niu seemed almost unable to hold on any longer.

”Alright. I’ll listen to you,” Tian Niu said, gathering all his strength into that one arm. He turned and yelled at Zhiyuan, who was slowly untying the child, ”Vice-Captain, save us! The captain and I need your help getting up!”

”Right away,” Hen Zhiyuan responded, hastening his efforts to untie the ropes and moved the child to a safe place.

By the time he returned, Qin Jian and Tian Niu were utterly exhausted.

They had used up all their strength and were gritting their teeth to hold on.

That was the situation—if they couldn’t get up initially, the longer they struggled, the less strength they had, and the more they were stuck there, the more energy they wasted.

Seeing Hen Zhiyuan dawdling, Qin Jian shouted, ”Hen, hurry up! We can’t hold on much longer!”

”Coming! Coming! Just hold on a little longer,” Hen Zhiyuan shouted back as he rushed over.
