Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1481: Chapter 1481: Inaction is Murder

”Yes, you’re absolutely right. I doubt him. Xiaoshuan may not have seen what happened at that moment, but he heard the conversation. He heard Qin Jian and Tian Niu angrily cursing. If you loved your comrade, would you dawdle at a critical moment?” An Hao increasingly believed that Zhiyuan had interfered, and that anger blazed in her chest like a roaring fire.

”No, I wouldn’t. I would have rushed over just like Tian Niu,” Yan Ye said.

”That rope,” An Hao continued, ”I feel there’s something wrong with that rope. Even a child was questioning why the rope wasn’t just knotted and thrown directly to Qin Jian. Could Zhiyuan really not be aware? What did the child say at first? He said that the rope was wrapped around Zhiyuan’s waist at the time. What does that indicate?”

”...Do you really feel that Zhiyuan would harm Qin Jian?” Yan Ye squinted as he asked.

”Whether he would or not, when a comrade was about to fall, he did nothing. He clearly had the chance to pull the other person up yet chose to let go of that opportunity. How is that different from murder?” An Hao was filled with sorrow and indignation.

”You’re right,” Gu Shuangshuang agreed with An Hao, her gaze turning towards Yan Ye, ”Teacher Yan, please, I beg of you. Please keep a watchful eye. If you can catch him in any wrongdoing, you must tell us. Such scum does not deserve to be a soldier. Even if my husband has died, I will still expose him. We can’t let him cause chaos in the military.”

”Okay, I will definitely help with that.” It wasn’t just for Qin Jian, but also for maintaining a good environment in the military.

”What are you all planning to do next?” Ji Chuan, who had been listening all along, asked, ”The digging here is still ongoing, but it doesn’t look very hopeful... If no one is found soon, I’m afraid the news will have to be announced.”

”To be honest, I can’t believe that Qin Jian is dead. Even now, I can’t accept this reality. However, I also don’t know where to look for him... where to even start.” An Hao’s chest tightened with discomfort as she spoke.

”Listen to me,” Yan Ye stepped forward, gently patting her shoulder, ”An Hao, you’ve seen the site for yourself today, you should head back early. If Qin Jian is still alive, the first thing he’ll do when he returns is to look for you. So, just wait patiently.”

”There’s still a lot to handle at home. This news will probably spread soon. I think the first thing you should do now is to stabilize your household,” Ji Chuan thoughtfully added for An Hao.

He hoped An Hao could get through this tough period.

”Mhm,” An Hao nodded, ”You’re right. I can’t find anyone now, and I have no way to uncover Zhiyuan’s true face or catch him in the act. This might be the only thing I can do...”

”Shuangshuang too. You all should head back. I will definitely help if I can.”

”...Okay...”

Before returning, An Hao visited Qin Jian’s tent.

The bedding was neatly folded, and the floor was clean. He seemed to have left in a hurry, the only exception being his clothes, which were carelessly thrown aside.

As An Hao tidied his clothes, she discovered the photo that she had specifically asked Yan Ye to deliver, tucked inside his jacket pocket.
