Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1489: Chapter 1489: Paper Can’t Wrap Fire

The next day was Chinese New Year.

As usual, Ning Yibin could not spend the day at home as it was customary for him to visit the PLA soldiers who could not return home for the New Year.

He sat with them, addressed the living conditions of the new soldiers, engaged in celebratory activities, and conveyed the warmth and care of the military to them, providing a sense of familial warmth.

After the morning’s visits and comfort, he directly went to find Zhang Jianguo.

Qin Jian’s entire infantry regiment had gone to participate in earthquake relief; all were persisting in the frontline, striving to rebuild a home in the shortest time possible.

This Chinese New Year, the municipal government leaders had also paid a visit, and as a military leader, Ning Yibin had to go.

”Commander, your health isn’t good. You really shouldn’t go, right? Commissioner Liu also feels the same. He said with your health, you shouldn’t travel that far this year. He can go in your stead. Just happily go back and celebrate Chinese New Year.”

Ning Yibin was not only concerned about the warriors, but also worried about his own son. It had been such a long time without any news, and he always felt uneasy and wanted to go check.

”Don’t worry about me. Jianguo, I must go. I don’t need to explain why, I think you understand, right?”

”Commander, of course I understand, but the conditions there are really atrocious...”

”What? It seems like you are trying to stop me. No matter how atrocious the conditions, could they be worse than war conditions? What hardships haven’t we endured during that era? After a few peaceful days, can’t we endure hardship anymore?” Ning Yibin expressed his dissatisfaction, ”I don’t need this extra concern from you all.”

”Commander, I... well, okay then.” Zhang Jianguo could no longer resist.

With the visit to the disaster area scheduled for the afternoon, Zhang Jianguo, worried Ning Yibin might not cope upon hearing the news, secretly contacted An Hao to prepare the medication in advance.

In case something really went wrong, he couldn’t bear the responsibility.

He thought to delay informing him by every minute possible.

After all, learning a bit later always spares one a few minutes of agony.

...

Lin Sheng went down the mountain early in the morning, holding two letters in his arms.

On the first day of the New Year, it wasn’t easy to travel to the city; there were no buses, how would he go?

But having promised Qin Jian, he was determined to find a way.

After pondering, he decided to head to the military camp about a dozen kilometers away, seeking PLA warriors supporting the post-disaster reconstruction.

They had vehicles available, and perhaps by making up an excuse, he might hitch a ride to the city.

Thus, Lin Sheng walked the rugged mountain rugged road to the military base for over ten miles.

This area was the worst affected by the disaster, and the PLA soldiers, unable to return home for the New Year, were stationed there. Seeing numerous trucks parked near the camp, Lin Sheng crafted an excuse in his mind and headed straight into the camp.

Just as he was nearing the tents, he saw a commotion in the camp.

”Quick, quick! Dr. Yan, come quickly. The commander is having a heart attack!” Several military-ranked leaders carrying a stretcher rushed towards another tent.

Lin Sheng hesitated, witnessing such an event; everyone was busy attending to this senior leader, would they have time to deal with his matter?

He thought, perhaps, he should hand over the letters to the military personnel here? If not, let them deliver them.
