Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”The glory of the past is gone! For a soldier like me, it’s the utmost disgrace! Living isn’t better than dying!” Luo Gang pointed at the scar on his face. ”Facing the enemy, I have the courage to engage in close combat. That’s my honor! It’s the pride of my life! But that desertion destroyed everything.”

”That was also the path you chose for yourself.”

”So, I chose wrong! But for Cheng Yu, I have no regrets.” Now he needed money, and for someone with his skills, there was a huge market out there.

So he picked up a gun, and yet he pointed it at his own brothers, his own compatriots.

There was no helping it, there was nothing left in his life!

There was no Cheng Yu, who made him give up all other choices, yet remained unattainable.

”Alright then! Since it’s come to this, there’s no need for further words.” Qin Jian didn’t want to waste his breath on someone who was beyond redemption.

”Fire then! Let’s see which one of us falls first!” Luo Gang said.

”Staff officer!” The warriors standing behind Qin Jian were all panicking, ”You can’t compare!”

Some had even stealthily prepared themselves, ready to pull the trigger and end Luo Gang’s life.

But clearly, they had underestimated him.

Luo Gang was no ordinary person.

With a quick lift of his hand and two shots, bullets lodged themselves near them.

The speed at which others fired was indescribably slower compared to his.

”Come on!” Luo Gang said to Qin Jian, ”One, two, three!”

Simultaneously, two shots rang out.

Warriors’ exclamations echoed through the valley, ”Staff officer!!”

.................................

Today is New Year’s Eve, the last day of the year.

Early in the morning, the village was bustling with activity.

Crackling firecrackers, children’s laughter, and the sounds of every household pasting couplets and cutting paper-cuts for window decorations, and getting ready to make dumplings filled the air.

An Hao stood at the window, holding the paper-cuts she made, trying to figure out how to paste them just right.

An Ping came in through the door, ”Sis! It’s New Year’s Eve, is brother-in-law coming back?”

”You’re asking me? Who should I ask?” She too wanted to know what the situation was with Qin Jian.

After all, her husband was the one on a mission!

But some things, you can’t know just because you want to.

She worried, what if Qin Jian was seriously injured?

However, An Hao always believed in one thing. Qin Jian would never be in mortal danger.

After all, in her previous life when she died, Qin Jian had already become a commander.

”Sigh! What a pity!” An Ping was very disappointed, ”How am I supposed to give my gift now?”

”I thought you cared about your brother-in-law. But it turns out what you’re really concerned about is your gift?” An Hao expressed utter disdain for An Ping’s behavior, ”Which is more important, your brother-in-law or the gift? Can’t you discern that yourself?”

”Hey! Seems like I can’t make it clear to you!” An Ping sighed, turned around, and left.

An Hao was left utterly bewildered!

She had no idea what this kid was thinking about every day, but as his sister, she was finding him increasingly incomprehensible!

After pasting the paper-cuts and couplets, An Shuchao brought out two strings of firecrackers for An Ping to set off.

As noon was approaching, it was time for every household to eat dumplings.

An Hao went to the kitchen and added a couple of large cabbages and two pounds of lean meat to make the delectable dumpling filling. Then the family of three sat together, joyfully making dumplings.

Once they were done, An Hao carried several large bowls into the kitchen to cook, then set them on the table. The family gathered around and began to eat with relish.
