Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1058: Chapter 1058: Brother-in-law, You’re the Best!

An Hao was woken up by the sound of firecrackers. She tiredly opened her eyes to see that the sky outside was still pitch-black.

Qin Jian held her tightly in his arms, his large hand covering her ears, ”You can sleep a little longer.”

”Today is the first day of the new year, we need to get up early to cook. If people coming over for New Year’s visits see that we’re still in bed, we will be the laughing stock,” An Hao muttered.

But in the end, she couldn’t resist the onslaught of sleepiness, and her eyelids closed once more...

When she woke up again, the other side of the bed was empty.

She hurriedly got dressed and climbed out of the bed, lifting the curtain to look outside, only to see that the kitchen was already filled with smoke from the stove.

The two main men of the house were standing in front of a large pot cooking dumplings.

Qin Jian was operating the bellows to keep the fire going, while An Ping was handling the big ladle, poking into the pot with such force that several dumplings burst open, causing him to sweat profusely, ”Brother-in-law, can we switch? I’ll handle the fire, and you cook the dumplings, alright?”

”I don’t know how to cook dumplings,” Qin Jian answered, adding matches to the stove without guilt, ”Didn’t you say you knew how to do it just a moment ago?”

”I...I was just talking nonsense!” He really just didn’t want to tend the fire.

Seeing that there were barely any intact dumplings left in the pot, An Ping felt defeated. He tossed the ladle aside, ”No way, we have to call my sister over.”

”Don’t go,” Qin Jian said, ”Your sister was tired last night. Let her sleep a bit longer.”

An Ping caught the hint, ”Oh my! Sleeping and still tired? Heh heh, brother-in-law, come clean, did you make me a little nephew last night or not?”

An Hao’s face turned red at the sound of this, and just as she was about to enter, she heard Qin Jian say, ”You’re only seventeen or eighteen, and all you think about is nonsense! It’s just cooking dumplings, right? I’ll do it!”

”Alright. You do it then.” An Ping quickly vacated the spot and sat down to tend the fire.

Qin Jian’s ladle skillfully stirred in the large pot, diligently cooking the dumplings.

An Hao stood in the doorway, staring blankly at his handsome profile.

Indeed, a man who is serious is the most attractive.

”Cough cough... An Ping, that... we might really need to call your sister over,” Qin Jian said, staring at the large pot of dumplings somewhat dazedly.

”What’s up? Let me have a look.” An Ping said as he dropped the fire poking stick and stood up, but upon seeing the contents of the pot, he was stunned into silence!

!!!

This definitely looked more like a dumpling soup than actual dumplings!

”Great! Brother-in-law! You’re the best!” An Ping gave him a thumbs up.

”Actually, changing up the flavor appropriately isn’t bad,” Qin Jian scooped up something that looked like paste from the pot and brought it to An Ping’s mouth, ”Try this.”

”Help!” An Ping was on the verge of tears.

”What’s this? It’s just cooking dumplings...” An Hao had enough of staring blankly, and upon closer inspection, she froze in place, ”Are you sure this is enough to eat?”

Qin Jian: ”Sure!”

The dumplings on the first day of the new year had a unique taste of their own.

All four members of the family endured it, each eating a bowl of the mixture of dumpling wrappers and filling, and then they put down their bowls.

An Hao went to clean up the dishes as the courtyard became lively with neighbors coming over to pay New Year’s visits, each uttering auspicious phrases.

Qin Jian waited for An Hao to finish cleaning up, and then the couple went to the Qin Family.

After all, he hadn’t seen them for a long time, and his heart was missing the Qin family! He hadn’t been able to return for half a year, and now that he had finally come home, he definitely had to visit his foster parents’ house.
