Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1057: Chapter 1057: Rescue Unsuccessful, Death!

Cheng Yu looked at them, silent.

After a long time, her eyelids began to droop once more, slowly closing.

”Cheng Yu! Cheng Yu!” Cheng Nanfang yelled loudly, ”Don’t sleep! Wake up! If you continue to sleep like this, can you deserve us? Can you deserve Luo Gang? He said he’s going to earn money to take you to Hong Kong for the best treatment.”

No sooner had Cheng Nanfang finished speaking than the phone in the house rang.

He walked over and picked up the phone.

He only listened for a few moments before his hand loosened, and the phone clattered to the ground.

He seemed to have all his strength drained from him and collapsed onto the sofa with a thump.

”Old Cheng! What’s wrong with you?” When Qi Siyuan saw Cheng Nanfang’s despairing figure, her heart lurched, fearing it was more bad news.

Cheng Nanfang raised his hand to cover his eyes, saying with unbearable pain, ”Luo Gang is dead!”

”What?” Qi Siyuan couldn’t believe her ears. ”Say that again.”

”Luo Gang is dead. In order to get money, he joined a criminal gang! He shot the sentinel on duty and stole the firearms! Using these as weapons, he robbed the passersby on the road! Yesterday, he was killed by the military in the deep mountains and forests. The person who fired the shot was none other than Qin Jian!” After Cheng Nanfang finished, he couldn’t help but weep uncontrollably, ”I’m sorry to the Luo Family! I’m so sorry!”

”How could this foolish child do such a thing?” Qi Siyuan cried.

Lying in the hospital bed, Cheng Yu saw flashbacks of the joyful times in the courtyard during her youth.

”Luo Gang... what’s the thing you like doing the most?”

”Watching you.”

”Luo Gang, what’s your dream when you grow up?”

”I want to be the King of Soldiers!”

”Luo Gang, I’ve enlisted... I’m going to the medical corps...”

”Luo Gang, on the battlefield, I’ll be with you; if you don’t back down, I won’t back down either!”

”Cheng Yu, if we can come back alive from this war, marry me, okay? I will cherish you, spoil you, and take care of you for life.”

”Can you pluck the stars from the sky for me? If you can, I’ll marry you!”

”I’ll pluck them down, even if it costs me my life...”

As the memories faded away, time slipped by like flowing water before her eyes. Cheng Yu felt a sharp pain in her heart, suddenly opened her eyes wide, and her mouth moved, making a difficult sound: Luo Gang!

Then her eyes slowly closed again.

A glistening tear slid down from the corner of her eye, drip—, and the heartbeat monitor by the bed emitted a piercing beep.

Looking at the screen, that one line had now become a flat line.

”Cheng Yu!”

”My daughter!”

Cheng Yue felt as though he had been struck by lightning, and after a moment of stupor, he quickly climbed onto the bed and started applying rapid compressions to Cheng Yu’s heart with the palms of his hands.

”One, two, three,... ninety-nine...” On the screen, that line remained flat.

After ten minutes of resuscitation, sweat covered Cheng Yue’s cheeks, and tears flowed down uncontrollably: ”Sis! Wake up! Sis! You can’t die... you can’t...”

The golden eight minutes had passed, resuscitation was ineffective, Cheng Yu was dead!

Qi Siyuan fainted, and Cheng Yue, pointing angrily at Cheng Yu’s cold body, yelled, ”Sis! You are so stubborn! You never listen! If you have to die, why die on New Year’s Eve! How can our parents ever celebrate the New Year again?”

Cheng Nanfang, holding the unconscious Qi Siyuan, said, ”It’s better that she’s dead! She’s freed from it all! Cheng Yu, if you are reborn, please don’t be so stubborn...”
