Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 796: Chapter 796: A Visit to Express Thanks

”Sis! Have you really not considered Teacher Yan? If you interact with him, you’ll definitely discover he’s a genuinely good man,” Cheng Yue felt that if such a person became his brother-in-law, he would gladly accept him.

”You better think about your own matters,” Cheng Yu said with a smile, ”Since Teacher Yan values you so much, you must achieve some results! Let mom and dad also see that your college education wasn’t for nothing, and that choosing to be a doctor was the right decision.”

”Ah! I just don’t like talking about this with you,” Cheng Yue covered his ears.

”Such a child who never grows up,” Cheng Yu watched her brother helplessly. If it weren’t for her lack of energy, she would definitely take good care of him.

Qin Jian and An Hao returned home.

Immediately, An Hao began to wash the beef, soaking it in clear water, then she started to help Qin Jian pack his luggage.

Once Qin Jian left, she wouldn’t stay in this house any longer, planning to return the keys that very night.

When everything was almost packed, and the beef had been soaking for about two hours, with the water being changed several times until it became clear and blood-free, she finally cut the beef into evenly sized pieces, ready to cook.

She put star anise, tea leaves, cinnamon, bay leaves, and Sichuan peppercorns into a small cloth bag, sealing it with a thread before setting it aside.

In a pot, she added clear water and a small half cup of white wine to boil the beef. After the beef turned white, she took it out. She poured out the water, added the prepared bag of spices, and then added soy sauce, salt, and a large spoonful of white sugar to start cooking.

The beef stewed in the pot from the afternoon for about two hours until it was fished out to drain on the side.

She divided the beef into three portions.

She took the largest share for Qin Jian to take with him, and the two smaller portions were for her in-laws and Uncle and Aunt from the Yan Family.

After everything was neatly packed up.

The sound of a car horn came from downstairs.

An Hao went to the balcony to look; Security Guard Xiaoliu had driven over to pick them up to return home—this was Qin Jian’s last evening at home, and his parents-in-law definitely wanted to take him back for dinner.

So, she quickly called out to Qin Jian and the two of them carried a bunch of things downstairs.

When they got back to the military compound, the in-laws had already prepared dinner, with a full table.

Inevitably, there were the sorrows of parting that followed. After being married for a year and more, she and Qin Jian were repeatedly separating and coming back together, a cycle An Hao still could not get used to.

After the meal, Ning Yibin and his wife sat down with Qin Jian to discuss military matters.

An Hao then went by herself to the Yan Family’s house.

Carrying the bag of marinated beef in her hand, she stood at the door and knocked—bang bang bang!

After three knocks, the door clicked open, and to An Hao’s surprise, Yan Huan was also at home.

Seeing An Hao, Yan Huan looked at her expressionlessly and asked, ”What are you doing here?”

”I’ve come to bring something for Uncle and Aunt,” An Hao shook the bag in her hand and said, ”I made this marinated beef myself.”

”Come in,” Yan Huan moved aside, letting An Hao in.

Yan Luquan was not at home; only Feng Yuzhi was there, flipping through a cookbook with reading glasses. Seeing An Hao, she put down the book and stood up, ”An Hao, you’re here? Please, have a seat!”

”I won’t sit down, Aunt. I came to bring something over. I wanted to thank Yan Huan for his help today, and also thank Teacher Yan Ye for always taking care of me at school.” As she spoke, An Hao handed the marinated meat to Feng Yuzhi, ”I made it myself. I’ve brought some over for your family to try.”
