Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 794: Chapter 790: Two Bullets Shot into the Head

The battle had taken its toll, Qin Jian had fallen, and had been rushed to the field hospital for emergency treatment.

She had been tied up on the battlefield, and days and nights passed by; when she finally left the front lines, she hurried to the hospital to find him.

She checked each wounded soldier, but she never saw a glimpse of Qin Jian.

”Cheng Yu, are you looking for Captain Qin?” the commander of the health company told her, ”You don’t need to look anymore, he’s fine. He recuperated in the hospital for a few days and then returned to the battlefield.”

”Ah? So soon?” Cheng Yu was full of disappointment, all the thoughts of a young girl written openly on her face.

The commander was an old hand and could tell what she was thinking just by looking at her, ”Fancy him, do you? Focus on fighting the war for now. After we win, I’ll find out where he’s from and set you two up.”

Cheng Yu’s face turned red: ”Commander, you’re overthinking it. I didn’t mean that.”

The commander laughed heartily: ”Am I really overthinking, or are you just afraid to admit it? There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s normal.”

”Alright. Then I’ll thank the commander in advance.” Cheng Yu had to admit, the commander’s words truly moved her.

Three months later, she braved the hail of bullets on the battlefield countless times, but she never caught sight of Qin Jian again.

After every battle, someone would bring the casualty and missing persons lists, and she would check them stealthily, relieved to not find Qin Jian’s name on them.

That name, those resolute eyes, and his figure, as staunch as a pine tree, had always motivated and supported her, especially during the countless times she was on the brink of giving up.

Thinking of him, she found reasons to persevere.

Hurry up, hurry up! Please let the war end soon!

Cheng Yu had thought that she surely would have another chance to see Qin Jian on the battlefield, and sure enough, the chance came.

She and Qin Jian’s recon team ran into each other again in the jungle, where she heard that Qin Jian was leading his team to approach the enemy’s bunker from the front.

A shell fell and exploded right beside them.

Cheng Yu was urgently called to help carry the wounded, and as she stood up, she heard two loud bangs, her vision went pitch black, and she lost consciousness instantly.

She was going to die!

When Cheng Yu woke up, she was already off the battlefield, having been sent to the hospital for treatment.

A bullet had grazed her skull and penetrated her brain. It was supposed to be a certain death, but she was lucky, and somehow survived.

She was rushed into the operating room, where doctors extracted a bullet from her brain after seven hours of surgery.

She survived.

Cheng Yu took half a year to recover, and she wanted to wait until her bare head grew hair again before she went to see Qin Jian.

The commander had already found out for her: Qin Jian was single, about her age, very capable, and had just been promoted to battalion commander.

Now, many people were vying to introduce him to prospects.

She couldn’t let such a good man be snatched away by someone else.

The day she had been waiting for finally arrived; her hair had grown out. She went to the barber for a smart haircut, donned her crisp uniform, and was about to see him with the commander.

Unexpectedly, the aggravating headache struck again, this time so intensely that she fainted from the pain.

After another round of exams, it turned out there was still another bullet lodged in her head.

The second surgery began, but unfortunately, after ten full hours, they were unable to remove it. The bullet was very close to the brain’s nerves, and any slight mistake could be fatal.
