Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 758: Chapter 758: Mysterious Past

”Yes. How’s my little brother doing? Has he been causing you trouble at school?” Cheng Yu apologized with a smile, ”My father had him when he was nearly forty, and he was spoiled rotten when he was little, so...”

”He’s very smart! A good seedling. I hope to cultivate him well. As for causing trouble, not too bad! He doesn’t dare to act out too much under me!” Yan Ye laughed heartily.

An Hao rarely heard Yan Ye laugh out loud, and it seemed this was the first time.

”In the future, I’ll be here and I will definitely keep him in line,” Cheng Yu said.

”Hmm. Your presence is quite a deterrent for her. He’s been quite well-behaved these past few days. I asked him why, and he said he was afraid of you! He said you’ve been on the China-Vietnam battlefield, a female medic in the warzone! One who has seen fields littered with corpses and even killed before! To tell the truth, I was indeed a bit shocked when I first met you. It’s hard to reconcile your delicate appearance with that of a female medic in a warzone,” Yan Ye said.

”That was many years ago, let’s not bring it up,” Cheng Yu replied. That past was her nightmare but also her treasured memory.

She didn’t plan on going into detail about the past, and it wouldn’t be proper for Yan Ye to pry, but he couldn’t help feeling a bit curious, ”Once enlisted, you’re not allowed to leave the country. Unless on a mission assigned by the state, and even then, you can’t stay abroad for long. I’m quite curious how you managed to study overseas for so many years.”

An Hao listened quietly and also felt very puzzled.

Although she learned through Gu Shuangshuang that Cheng Yue was the son of the Commander of the Nanji Military Region, then naturally Cheng Yue would be his daughter.

It’s a national regulation that serving military personnel are not permitted to go abroad.

Unless they are retired military personnel.

If they are not personnel with access to secrets, going abroad isn’t too difficult to arrange.

”After the war, I retired. Then I went abroad,” Cheng Yue said nonchalantly.

”Retired? Those who come back from the China-Vietnam battlefield are all decorated soldiers! Unless you wanted to leave the forces on your own accord?” Yan Ye wasn’t one to meddle, but the woman in front of him seemed very mysterious.

Upon entering the laboratory, the principal even instructed him to take good care of Cheng Yu, mentioning that her situation was somewhat special.

As for how it was special, even the school’s leadership wasn’t clear on that.

”Yes. I left voluntarily. I was injured on the battlefield and the domestic medical level couldn’t heal me,” Cheng Yu said briefly before telling Yan Ye she had to leave,” Mr. Yan, I have some things to take care of. The principal said they’d allocate a room for me today, and I plan to move tonight.”

Seeing she didn’t want to delve deeper, Yan Ye let it be, ”I’m sorry I can’t help you, I have an autopsy class to teach tonight!”

”No worries! Goodbye!”

.........................................................

After the autopsy class ended, it was already nine o’clock in the evening.

When An Hao left the campus gate, she unexpectedly came across Cheng Yu moving house, followed by those three unruly guys.

The three greeted An Hao, and because Cheng Yu was there, Cheng Yue was much more restrained.

Cheng Yu smiled and said to An Hao, ”I’ve moved. I’ll invite you for coffee tomorrow. My new address is right next to Mr. Yan’s! Remember to come over at ten in the morning.”

”Sure,” An Hao readily agreed.

Once out of the school gate, An Hao saw Qin Jian approaching from another direction.

An Hao ran towards him joyfully, holding his fingers tightly, ”Qin Jian, I have a new discovery to tell you! A new researcher has joined our lab. Did you know? She, like you, has served in the China-Vietnam war!”

”Is that so? Tell me her name! Let me see if I remember her!”
