Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 763: Chapter 763: Hello, Chief

”Teacher Cheng, there’s no need for you to trouble yourself,” An Hao said, feeling embarrassed to impose.

”It’s no trouble. The sunshine is unusually lovely today, and I was planning to take a stroll anyway,” Cheng Yu replied.

Since that was the case, An Hao didn’t insist any further.

Teacher and student descended from the building, chatting and laughing together.

From a distance, Qin Jian saw An Hao’s figure and slowly walked towards her.

An Hao waved to Qin Jian and turned to say goodbye to Cheng Yu. Before she could speak, Cheng Yu asked, ”Is that your husband?”

”Yes,” An Hao nodded. ”You must find it amusing, Teacher Cheng, he just so happens to have a day off today, so he came along with me.”

”A soldier!” Cheng Yu said meaningfully. ”Is it very tough to be a military spouse?”

”It’s okay.” An Hao rarely shared too much about her life with her husband with strangers.

Given Qin Jian’s popularity, she always had to be vigilant.

Who could guarantee he wouldn’t attract others’ attention?

Just like in her past life, she had been blind and foolish, allowing Song Yueqin to covet him for a long time.

And then he was taken from her.

Looking back, Qin Jian had been just as deeply affectionate towards her in that life, but not one to express it in words.

How could he have married Song Yueqin?

Regrettably, in this life, Qin Jian didn’t know the reason, and in this life, she didn’t know what happened after her death. Otherwise, she would really be interested in finding out all about it.

”An Hao, I see happiness in your eyes,” Cheng Yu said as she looked at An Hao’s serene yet sweet smile and genuinely expressed her admiration.

An Hao turned to look at Cheng Yu and casually asked, ”Have you settled down yet, Teacher Cheng?”

Cheng Yue shook her head: ”No.”

”Why?” An Hao was surprised. ”Has there been no suitable person?”

Cheng Yu smiled and said, ”It’s like that, and also not like that. My health isn’t very good, and I’m worried that getting married would burden someone else.”

”That’s a pity,” An Hao expressed her sympathy. ”Such an elegant and gentle woman like Teacher Cheng should find a truly outstanding man! If you ever change your mind, you could consider Teacher Yan Ye. If you two ended up together, that would be a match made in heaven.”

”Are you trying to play matchmaker for me?” Cheng Yu laughed softly. ”Marriage is a distant matter for me; I’m not considering it at the moment.”

As the two of them talked, Qin Jian had already approached them.

Cheng Yu’s gaze fell on Qin Jian’s face, and the features blurred by time suddenly became clear.

”Teacher Cheng, let me introduce him. This is my husband, Qin Jian,” An Hao said.

”Qin Jian, this is our lab’s new research fellow—Cheng Yu.”

Cheng Yu smiled at Qin Jian and stood up straight to give him a military salute: ”Greetings, sir!”

Qin Jian was slightly taken aback and responded instinctively with a salute, ”Hello! I heard that you too participated in the China-Vietnam Self-Defense Counterattack War?”

At the mention, a calmness settled in Cheng Yu’s eyes: ”How did you know, sir?”

”I’m sorry, I overheard your conversation with Teacher Yan Ye yesterday, and I mentioned it to Qin Jian in passing,” An Hao explained.

”No wonder,” Cheng Yu’s lips twitched slightly. ”Those were the days of war! And also the days of fiery passion. My first experience on the battlefield is something I can never forget, and the impact that era had on me.”

She wasn’t the only one; Qin Jian felt the same way.

And it wasn’t just Qin Jian; likely every old veteran who survived the war felt the same.
