Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 749: Chapter 749: Both Are Destitute Wanderers

Cheng Yue never expected the PLA female soldier to suddenly jump onto his bike’s rear rack, causing it to sway violently from side to side and nearly fall over.

”Could you at least say something before you get on? Is this how you do things? Just jumping on without a word!” Cheng Yue was furious and yelled.

The roughness of his voice was full of anger, making Yan Huan’s ears hurt.

”Did you eat gunpowder or something?” She covered her ears and frowned, ”Why are you so mad? Even if I did something wrong, can’t you speak nicely?”

”Yan Huan, sis, don’t bother with him! This guy’s anger isn’t really directed at you, he’s just been through a breakup and isn’t feeling great,” Li Zhi explained.

”What’s it to you? Got a death wish, do you? Keep it up, and one day I’ll glue your mouth shut.”

”Wow, you’re not that old, but you’ve got a temper!” Yan Huan pouted, ”So what if it’s just a breakup? There’s a saying ’there are plenty of fish in the sea, why fixate on a single one?’ You’re still young, just find someone else!”

”Exactly! Look at me, PLA sis, I got dumped too! Every night I lay in bed feeling like my heart is being carved with a knife, like I’m being fried in oil. But look at me during the day, I’m still lively and spirited, never letting anyone see the mess inside!” Li Zhi pounded his chest, his gossiping mouth never stopping.

”I’ve had a breakup too.” Thinking of Qin Jian, Yan Huan still felt residual pain. In fact, not seeing him was okay, and not knowing the news didn’t matter, but once she knew, she couldn’t help feeling miserable for a while.

That kind of talk was good for comforting others, but on oneself, it just didn’t work.

”Hey! Looks like we’re all in the same boat here!” Li Zhi lamented in the rain.

Cheng Yue listened to their nonsense without saying a word.

Li Zhi got no joy from talking to himself, so he poked at Cheng Yue, ”Buddy, you still sulking? Is it worth it? I’m telling you, this is pure masochism on your part.”

”You’re the one who’s masochistic! Li Zhi, could you die from not spouting nonsense for a day?” The more frustrated Cheng Yue became, the more incessant Li Zhi’s chatter was.

”You know me too well, it really could kill me,” Li Zhi said, wiping the water off his face.

Yan Huan glanced at the big boy sitting on the bike seat, his broad back arched like a rising mountain ridge. Though she couldn’t see his face, she could feel his dejected and defeated mood.

”Masochist? Oh, you have that hobby?” Yan Huan patted his back and laughed.

”Don’t touch me. Keep your hands to yourself,” Cheng Yue turned and glared at Yan Huan.

”Right?” Li Zhi was enjoying the chat with Yan Huan, feeling a sense of camaraderie, ”Sis, you see, he likes this girl, but he just secretly follows her around, watching her be sweet with her husband. If that’s not masochism, what is?”

Seeing Li Zhi talk out of turn, Cheng Yue, aggravated, moved his bike closer and kicked out, ”Are you asking for it?”

”Hey, hey, hey, hey!” Li Zhi’s bike wobbled violently, but he managed to stabilize it and not fall over.

Knowing Cheng Yue was truly annoyed, Li Zhi didn’t dare to make any more noise.

But it was Yan Huan who, stimulated by Li Zhi’s goading, suddenly recalled the call she had received on New Year’s Eve looking for An Hao.

Therefore, she said with a smile, ”Masochism? Let me tell you about a fool’s actions, knowing full well what the result will be, but still stubbornly, head-first, crashing into the south wall.”
