Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 722: Chapter 722: The Wrong Number Call

She pulled a Soviet Union novel from the bookshelf and flipped through it casually. Her father’s exaggerated laughter, from winning a game of chess downstairs, wafted up in waves, so distracting that Yan Huan couldn’t concentrate on her reading at all.

With a slap, she closed the book and decided to go back to her room.

Just as she was about to get up, the ringing of the phone on the desk caught her attention. She originally had no intention of answering it. This phone was connected to another in the bedroom, and she figured, with everyone in the living room, surely someone would answer the phone, right?

So, she let the phone ring on.

Unexpectedly, the downstairs went quiet while the noise outside increased—evidently, everyone had run out to set off firecrackers.

She opened the window to look down.

She saw Qin Jian and Yan Ye in charge of lighting them, while others watched from the side.

After lighting the firecrackers, Qin Jian quickly moved back and stood behind An Hao, his broad hands covering her ears to protect her.

Tsk—

Such a timid woman, and to think what on earth Qin Jian saw in her.

Yan Huan found this scene particularly irksome and withdrew her gaze.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Yan Huan closed the window, and even drew the curtains.

Having done all this, she felt much better.

The phone on the desk rang again, and this time Yan Huan didn’t hesitate to pick it up. ”Hello...”

On the other end of the line, a burst of heavy breathing came through, yet no one replied.

”Hello? Who is this?” Yan Huan asked again, trying to be patient.

”Is that An Hao?” Suddenly, a man’s voice came from the other side of the receiver, asking if she was An Hao.

Upon hearing this, Yan Huan clicked off the phone abruptly.

To hell with An Hao!

That name seemed to haunt her like a ghost, stubbornly clinging to her life!

Yan Huan was fuming when the phone rang again.

Yan Huan straight up unplugged the phone. Was there some mistake? They were looking for An Hao and ended up calling her home?

The world was indeed full of wonders.

Upstairs fell silent as the phone ceased to ring, but downstairs it continued incessantly.

Yan Huan was about to let it keep ringing when suddenly something occurred to her. The corners of her mouth twitched slightly as she plugged the phone line back in.

The phone started ringing again almost immediately, and Yan Huan swiftly answered, ”Hello, who is this?”

”An Hao, my junior sister! I’m Cheng Yue!” This time Cheng Yue quickly introduced himself, fearing that An Hao would hang up decisively, so he hurriedly added, ”Please don’t hang up! I don’t mean anything by it. Last time, I was thoroughly convinced by Staff Officer Qin’s lecture. And I also promised him, I definitely won’t bother you anymore...”

Well, An Hao certainly wasn’t lacking in charm—still people clung to her?

Even after getting married, she hadn’t managed to shake off all her admirers.

”Hey, junior sister! Are you listening to me?” Cheng Yue hurriedly asked when he heard no response on her end.

”Yeah, go on,” Yan Huan said amusedly, listening on the phone. She really wanted to see what kind of fool was on the line—someone who couldn’t even recognize An Hao’s voice.

”It’s the New Year, right? I just wanted to send my greetings! And by the way, regards to Staff Officer Qin! I don’t mean anything else, I just think that it would be nice if we could be friends in the future. But, An Hao, rest assured! You are my first love, hard to forget, but I have indeed learned my lesson after this incident. Staff Officer Qin is genuinely a stand-up guy, and I can understand your love for him...” After holding it in for the entire vacation, Cheng Yue finally mustered the courage to call An Hao. Since she barely spoke, it was mostly him rambling on and on.

”You sure talk a lot; it’s like a lazy wife’s binding cloth—stinky and long!” Yan Huan burst out laughing; how could there be such a fool in the world, someone who couldn’t even recognize the voice of the person on the other end of the line?

On the other end of the phone, after Cheng Yue had embarrassingly spilled out all those words to whom he thought was An Hao, he suddenly realized that the voice didn’t sound like An Hao at all, and he hesitated, ”You... You’re not An Hao?”
