Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 720: Chapter 720: Caught a Foot, and Hurt the Heart

An Hao was pasting some glue on the wall, and Qin Jian was attaching the couplet, a picture of perfect harmony.

After Qin Jian had finished pasting the couplet, Zhang Yun handed him a few ”fu” characters: ”Come on, stick these ’fu’ characters up too! You should’ve seen your dad boasting after you complimented him. He was so pleased, he waved his big brush and wrote a few more ’fu’ characters, claiming they were quite good.”

”Dad’s calligraphy is indeed not bad.”

”Not bad, my foot! I couldn’t see anything good about it, they plainly looked like chicken scratches!” Zhang Yun said with a look of disgust.

”Mom, if dad heard you say that, he’d probably get really angry!” An Hao laughed. Last time, her father-in-law and mother-in-law had quarreled over calligraphy.

It was the first time An Hao had seen her father-in-law take such a trivial domestic matter so seriously with her mother-in-law.

”I can’t be bothered with him. Go ahead and stick it up! Just find any spot and slap it on.” Zhang Yun said, then went back inside.

While Qin Jian was pondering where to paste, An Hao pointed towards the large sycamore tree at the door: ”Let’s put one here!”

”There are many places we can stick them, why should it be on the tree?” Qin Jian asked with a smile.

”Because this place holds our beautiful memories,” An Hao replied with a smile, ”Don’t you remember?”

Reminded by her words, Qin Jian recalled: ”That night was beautiful and remains unforgettable.”

As he spoke, he touched his lips.

That night, he had pressed her against the tree and kissed her passionately, the feeling of wanting to lose control yet desperately restraining himself was still vividly etched in her memory.

”So, do you think we should paste it here?” An Hao asked, batting her eyes at him.

”Definitely!” Qin Jian said as he picked up the brush, spread some paste on the tree, and attached the ”fu” character.

”Are the chief of staff and his wife so overrun with ’fu’ characters that there’s nowhere left to paste them? Even an old sycamore tree is worthy of a ’fu’ character. Do you expect it will attract phoenixes or what?” a sour female voice came through, An Hao turned around to see Yan Huan standing behind them.

”Yes,” An Hao smiled lightly, ”This tree has witnessed our romance! It holds our shared beautiful memories, and for that reason alone, it deserves to be adorned with a ’fu’ character! Yan Huan, may I ask what’s improper about it?”

Yan Huan’s face went cold, and her smile stiffened: ”An Hao, are you deliberately trying to provoke me? You and Staff Officer Qin have finally become a couple! Are you now flaunting it in front of me intentionally? Don’t you think this behavior is a bit despicable?”

”As despicable as it gets to knowingly interfere when someone is already engaged! In the end, not only did you get your foot caught in, but you also hurt your heart!” An Hao unreservedly confronted Yan Huan—her former rival.

”You...” The reminder of her pursuit of Qin Jian was humiliating for Yan Huan.

In front of An Hao, she was a loser.

”It’s all in the past, and memories that needn’t be remembered should be forgotten. Yan Huan, you should focus on your love, not dwell on the past.” Qin Jian put his arm around An Hao’s shoulder, ”She is my wife! Of course, I will protect her! In the future, please don’t say such unpleasant things again. I also wish you good luck in finding your own perfect match!”

With that, Qin Jian walked into the house, his arm still wrapped around An Hao.

Watching their retreating figures, Yan Huan stomped her foot in anger. She decided she was done with the task Yan Luquan had given her and headed straight home.

Yan Luquan was busy in the kitchen with Feng Yuzhi when the door suddenly slammed shut with a loud bang, startling them. He poked his head out of the kitchen: ”What happened? I asked you to visit Uncle Ning next door to see if he could write a couplet for us. Did you go? Why did you come back empty-handed?”
