Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 708: Chapter 708: Birth Mother Comes to Kill

”That’s good to hear.” The old lady nodded with a smile, then turned to Tian Niu and said, ”There’s going to be a big market at the entrance of the village this afternoon, people from all around are coming. It’s almost New Year. Take Shuangshuang with you to see if there’s anything worth buying and get some things for the house.”

”I have to set up the stove in Shuangshuang’s room this afternoon, so let the second younger sister take her. The eldest sister should stay and help me,” Tian Niu said.

”That works too,” the old lady agreed.

It was Gu Shuangshuang’s first time going to the market, and she found it quite novel. She decided to go for it; even if there wasn’t anything to buy, it would still be fun just to browse around.

Right before the two left the house, the old lady took the second younger sister’s hand and kept reminding her, ”You have to take good care of your sister-in-law! She is pregnant now.”

The second younger sister said, ”Mom, don’t worry! Even if I get lost, I can’t lose my sister-in-law. And I definitely can’t let her get hurt.”

The weather in the village was cold, so Gu Shuangshuang put on the eldest sister’s heavy fur coat before heading out.

All along the way, people were looking at Gu Shuangshuang’s belly.

She found it very strange: ”Why is everyone looking at my stomach?”

The second sister laughed and said, ”Sister-in-law, you don’t know, do you? Our village is poor, and girls don’t like to marry in. There are a lot of bachelors in the village. If someone’s son brings home a wife, and the wife gets pregnant, that’s something to be really envious of.”

”How would they know I’m pregnant? Besides, I’m not,” she replied.

The second sister laughed, ”Sister-in-law, you don’t know, but Cuihua is the village’s loudspeaker. Once she knows something, it’s as if the whole village knows.”

She hadn’t even had a chance to tell her mother, and that loudspeaker Cuihua had broadcast it all the way there.

”What?” Gu Shuangshuang was completely stunned, ”Did I dig myself into a hole?”

It was done. It was what it was. She just had to go back and explain to the old lady. No wonder their attitude changed so strangely today.

So that was it.

Gu Shuangshuang and the second sister wandered around the market, and she noticed that almost everyone from their village knew about it, as a few people grouped together whispering and murmuring.

Gu Shuangshuang was too lazy to explain and just followed the second sister aimlessly around the market.

Qin Jian knew that Tian Niu’s home was in Tian Family Village.

Tian Niu once used this address when writing letters home.

However, Qin Jian had never been there, and they drove all the way to the entrance of Tian Family Village. The mountain road was rugged and winding, making it difficult to drive on, so they parked the car to the side.

Qin Jian, An Hao, and Duan Aihua got out of the car and walked into the village to inquire about the situation.

Just a short distance from the entrance of the village, they saw a bustling crowd that seemed to be at the market.

”Qin Jian, you don’t know where Tian Niu’s home is. How about we go over and ask someone?” An Hao suggested.

”Okay,” Qin Jian replied, glancing down at An Hao’s feet. Her shoes seemed particularly uncomfortable to walk in on the mountain paths, so he said to her, ”You two wait here for a bit, and I’ll go ahead and ask around.”

Qin Jian walked off by himself towards the inside, while An Hao and Duan Aihua found a slightly flatter area to wait for Qin Jian’s news.

Next to them, two vendors were selling their goods and chatting.

”Hey, did you hear? Tian Niu’s Family recently welcomed a double blessing. They say he brought back a city girl, and she’s pregnant too.”

”That’s why I say being a soldier pays off! When my little son is old enough to serve, I’m going to find a way to send him off, let him join the army too.”

The two people were chatting lively when Duan Aihua listened more and more feeling it sounded like Gu Shuangshuang, so she abruptly grabbed An Hao’s hand, emotionally saying, ”An Hao, do you think the people they’re talking about are Tian Niu and my daughter Shuangshuang?”
