Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1480: Chapter 1481: Dad Is Back

In mid-June, the sky remained clear. Mother Qi was recovering and could be discharged from the hospital. At her strong insistence, she was discharged to return to her hometown to recuperate.

Mother Qi felt a block in her heart; she wanted to stay at Cheng Su’s place in Qing City because Cheng Su was due to give birth in a few days, and she wanted to see her grandson.

Seeing her start to become stubborn again, Father Qi scolded, ”Your daughter-in-law is already busy and only has her mother helping her. When the child is born, there won’t even be a place to stay. If you go over there, being unable to move freely, who will take care of you? Isn’t this just causing more trouble?”

Mother Qi frowned and kept mumbling about her grandson.

”The grandson won’t run away. When the confinement period is over, they can bring the baby back to see you. But if you go, they will have to divert their attention to take care of you. Where will they find the manpower and energy?” Father Qi said irritably.

Mother Qi had no choice but to give up, but her heart was filled with unending frustration. Why did this have to happen, getting into a car accident and injuring her leg at this time? Is there really something like karma? Because she was too harsh in the past?

Carrying her full burden of frustration and reluctance, Mother Qi was discharged and returned to her hometown to recuperate. The first thing she did upon reaching the doorstep was to have Father Qi burn a fire pot and step over it, then she offered incense to the Bodhisattva and Buddha, praying for a good ten minutes before sitting down.

Once she was settled, Qi Fenglian returned to Qing City for work and also informed Cheng Su about the situation at home. Of course, she didn’t tell Cheng Su that Mother Qi actually wanted to stay at their place.

Upon learning that Mother Qi had returned home, Cheng Su finally felt relieved. Seeing that the final exams were just a few days away, she took Mother Cheng back to school for classes so that after taking the exams, she could focus on preparing for childbirth.

Liu Wenjing and her family also moved into a rented house.

Returning from class that day, Cheng Su felt something was off at home. Her eyes brightened as she checked the bathroom, finding no one, and then went to the room. Sure enough, Qi Taiguo was lying on the bed asleep!

Cheng Su felt a surge of joy in her heart and said to Mother Cheng, ”Mom, Taiguo is back. Can you go to the market and buy some bones to make a soup?”

”Really?” Mother Cheng was also very happy to hear this. She walked to the bedroom door, took a look, and indeed saw her son-in-law. Then she hurriedly grabbed her shopping basket and left.

Cheng Su walked over. Qi Taiguo had already opened his eyes, half-squinting as he sat up. When he saw Cheng Su, he opened his arms and hugged her, saying, ”I think I heard you talking to someone?”

”Talking to my mom. You’re back! When did you get back? Why is your beard so scruffy, and you didn’t even shave?” Cheng Su touched his face; his beard had grown significantly, and he looked very haggard.

Was it because the mission was tough?

”I just got back not long ago. I’m a bit tired, so I lay down for a while.” Qi Taiguo wrapped his arms around her big belly, felt the baby move, and smiled. ”It seems to have grown a lot bigger.”

”Yeah, it’s almost time to give birth, so of course, it’s bigger.” Cheng Su said.

Qi Taiguo hugged her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder, eyes slightly closed, saying, ”I missed you, and the baby too. Now that I see you both, it’s really nice.”

Cheng Su’s heart skipped a beat when she heard the slight sadness in his tone. She gently held his hands and asked, ”What happened? Didn’t the mission go well? Don’t worry, we’re all here, supporting Daddy.”

”The mission was completed. We successfully rescued the target, but the process was not pleasant. There was flooding and disaster in that area, and some people...” He began to choke up and couldn’t continue.

Hearing this, Cheng Su realized that he probably felt guilty for not being able to save some of the disaster victims.
