Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1476: Chapter 1477: Could This Be Retribution?

Cheng Su called her family, explained the situation, and in a couple of days, Mother Cheng arrived at Cheng Su’s home with big bags and small bags.

Mother Cheng took a turn around the house and said, ”Has Taiguo not come back yet?”

Cheng Su had just seen off Song Xiaojang, who helped her pick someone up, and upon hearing this, she said, ”Mom, if he were here, there wouldn’t be so many things to deal with, and you wouldn’t have had to come at this time!”

”What, if he’s here, you don’t want me to come?” Mother Cheng gave her a glance and said, ”So many things happened in your in-laws’ home, and you’re about to give birth, if I don’t come, who will help you?”

Cheng Su just laughed and said, ”Since you came over now, is everything arranged well at home?”

”It can be. Our family is small, with fewer things to worry about. Your dad and your brother, can’t they just cook some rice for themselves?” Mother Cheng glared at her and said, ”Your brother also finished his exams, so there’s nothing to worry about!”

Cheng Zhi also took the college entrance exams this year, and since they’re over, there’s much less stress.

”How did he do on the exams?” Cheng Su poured a cup of water and handed it to Mother Cheng.

Mother Cheng took it, drank it gulp by gulp, sighed, and said, ”I’m worried, your brother is not cut out for studying.”

Cheng Su remained silent and said, ”Don’t worry, if he gets in, it’ll be good news for everyone. If not, he can repeat or decide on his own path!”

”What path could he have? He’s set on joining your third uncle in Guangcheng!” Mother Cheng exclaimed.

Cheng Su laughed, ”He’s quite ambitious.” Talking about going to Guangcheng right off the bat.

”Your dad said your third uncle’s renovation crew has expanded again, seems like he’s doing well!” Mother Cheng said.

Cheng Su nodded and said, ”Third uncle sometimes calls me to chat, mentioning how busy he is now, which shows business is good!”

Upon hearing this, Mother Cheng said sourly, ”Well, isn’t that thanks to the connections with you, his niece? They’re about to run this place up. Whether Cheng Zhi, as his nephew, can share in your third uncle’s success remains to be seen!”

This remark was obviously tinged with envy, Cheng Su laughed and said, ”Mom, we’re all family, I don’t think third uncle is like that. Both our families get along well now.”

”Business between relatives should be accounted for clearly...” Seeing Cheng Su frown, Mother Cheng changed her tone and said, ”Alright, alright, I won’t say it. Anyway, if not your third uncle, you, as his sister, can’t you help your own brother?”

Seeing Cheng Su smiling silently, she stopped that topic and brought up Mother Qi.

”...Ultimately, she’s family. Regardless, knowing about such misfortune, not visiting would be inappropriate. I went with your dad to visit yesterday, and your mother-in-law really does have some luck—only her leg got broken. But still, at her age, such a major hardship is tough.” Mother Cheng sighed, ”And at this time, a grandson is on the way, alas.”

”Saved from disaster, there must be blessings ahead. Hopefully, she’ll have a fortunate future,” Cheng Su said.

Mother Cheng nodded, hesitated for a moment, and said, ”Why did such a thing happen? If you ask me, it might be because she was so mean before, always causing trouble, and now Heaven’s punishing her?”

”Mom!” Cheng Su frowned and said, ”Don’t say such things in the future, especially in front of Taiguo. There’s no punishment; people have their ups and downs, this is just an accident!”

Karma, she believed in it, but didn’t dwell on whether Mother Qi deserved this, because this issue arose due to the child in her belly.

Mother Cheng sheepishly said, ”I was just talking here, wouldn’t be foolish enough to say it in front of Taiguo. Ah, when is Taiguo coming back...”
