Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1460: Chapter 1461: The Qing Dynasty Ended Long Ago

Mother Qi hung up the phone, momentarily dazed, realizing that the advice she had just given her eldest sister could also apply to herself.

Her eldest sister is at an age where there is only one son, Weixia, left to rely on at home, including for elderly care and funeral arrangements. Besides the son, there is also the daughter-in-law. If she firmly refuses to accept Weixia and Wenjing and keeps on pushing them to the brink or to madness, what would be the outcome?

The worst result would be that they run away. If Weixia and Wenjing ran away once, they could run away a second time and might never return. Then who could her eldest sister rely on?

So her eldest sister has no choice but to accept, and even endure, because she is old and has physical limitations, requiring care. There are always some things that the son is inconvenienced to do, so she must rely on the daughter-in-law.

If she doesn’t treat the daughter-in-law well now, will she care when she’s old?

The same logic applies: if you treat Wenjing poorly, would she care for you when you are old and at a stage where you depend on others, dare you act arrogantly?

Because everyone will age eventually.

Mother Qi sat in thought, contemplating her own situation, thinking about Cheng Su, and pondering the future.

Ignoring that Liu Wenjing has a timid personality for a moment, Cheng Su is a tough one, someone who responds better to kindness than harshness.

Reflecting on the things she said and did to her...

Mother Qi shivered, unwilling to think further.

Father Qi noticed Mother Qi staring blankly by the phone and, puzzled, asked, ”What are you doing sitting there with a lost look?”

Mother Qi looked up and replied, ”Old man, do you think when we grow old, the Taiguo daughter-in-law will take care of us?”

Father Qi was momentarily confused.

”What nonsense are you saying? That child is respectful,” Father Qi lightly reprimanded.

The implication being that when they grow old, Cheng Su won’t abandon them.

Mother Qi visibly relaxed upon hearing this, saying, ”Is that right? With filial piety placed there, she won’t neglect us, right?”

Father Qi responded, ”Let’s not talk about filial piety first, but that child is not cold-hearted.” Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he squinted at the old lady, saying, ”However, this also depends on the person.”

”What do you mean?” Mother Qi’s heart began to race.

”The Taiguo daughter-in-law has her own main ideas. No matter whether in life or work, she has her own inherent measure. With her, if you treat her well by one part, she’ll repay you by two parts. But with meanness, it doesn’t count!” Father Qi deliberately rolled a cigarette, saying, ”An eye for an eye, a favor for a favor, she can differentiate clearly. But everyone calculates, it’s the same for anyone; you treat me poorly, torment me, why should I treat you well? I’m no fool!”

Mother Qi’s face turned dark.

Father Qi glanced sideways at her, thinking finally this old lady has come to some understanding, grasping some truth.

”I tell you, she wouldn’t dare; Taiguo is here, if she dared treat us poorly, Taiguo couldn’t allow it and would have to divorce her!” Mother Qi argued uncomfortably.

Father Qi scoffed, ”I see you still don’t understand. Taiguo is already leaning towards his wife. Moreover, we’re far from the times of the Manchu Qing, and the Qing Dynasty has long fallen. Is there still a need for a daughter-in-law to personally serve the in-laws? Don’t forget, our family’s eldest daughter-in-law has money. If she doesn’t take care, she’ll just hire workers or a maid to look after us. What can Taiguo say?”

Mother Qi was speechless.

”Old lady, I suggest you restrain your temper a bit. Our big grandson is coming soon, don’t interfere too much in the affairs of the younger generation. Do the young ones know less than you? When spending money, they earn it just as easily. Don’t babble nonsense and end up making them resent you, losing all affection.” Father Qi advised sincerely, ”Old lady, we’re also aging. The day when we can’t move is just around the corner. Treat others as you would like to be treated!”
