Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1455: Chapter 1456: Lending a Helping Hand

It’s rare for Cheng Yaozu and the others to return, and Ning Ge also came along, so Cheng Su called Qi Taiguo to see if he could come back for a meal or something, for everyone to gather, but Qi Taiguo was tied up and couldn’t make it, leaving just a few of them to enjoy themselves.

Ying Xiaoya naturally kept Cheng Su company, chatting like girlfriends do. Seeing two other people at the house, she casually inquired and learned that they were the younger aunt and her cousins; one was here to take care of her, and the other was just visiting for a few days, so she didn’t ask further.

Cheng Su felt somewhat grateful for this. If she really probed, Cheng Su wouldn’t know how to answer appropriately. After all, there are some things you don’t divulge, even to a friend. Those frustrating family matters, it’s better to say less, as they aren’t exactly pleasant topics.

The arrival of Ying Xiaoya and the others brightened Cheng Su’s spirits, lifting the gloom she felt before. Indeed, one needs friends; even just having meals together and chatting occasionally is nice.

The weather improved for a day but started raining again, leaving Cheng Su puzzled about why there’s been so much rain this year!

The days went by, and Cheng Su attended a few more classes. By the end of May, Cheng Su noticed Liu Wenjing becoming anxious, completely distracted, either daydreaming or knocking over water bottles. Upon asking, she found out it was because Qi Fengping planned to return home to take an exam and have Mother Qi come over, which worried her.

Cheng Su was slightly taken aback—Liu Wenjing was afraid of the elder aunt’s temper—she sighed; unless you completely sever ties, you will eventually have to face it someday.

When Qi Taiguo finally managed to return, Cheng Su brought up the issue, saying, ”My factory, isn’t it growing? We are frequently recruiting these days. I asked Weixia, and he said he had done assembly line work before and had helped his older brother with driving and selling vegetables. The restaurant kitchen is also hiring helpers. If he’s willing, I could arrange something for him.”

”Will that work? Won’t it be troublesome?” Qi Taiguo asked, gently rubbing her belly. ”If it’s too difficult, then forget it. I was too busy to think about it before, but I can ask around.”

Cheng Su replied, ”Let’s not. Asking around inevitably uses favors, and these days, owing a favor is harder to repay than owing money. Let’s not waste favors on something like this.”

Qi Taiguo was silent for a moment, then asked, ”What do you think of him as a person?”

”From what I’ve seen these days, he hasn’t complained about being tired or anything. He’s lost a lot of weight, and construction sites are exhausting. He should be able to endure hardship,” Cheng Su considered.

Of course, he might not be complaining in front of people, but behind their backs, who knows. But as far as Cheng Su could observe, Deng Weixia didn’t seem to mind the hardships; he even once said that the hard labor wasn’t the problem. The main issue was the low wages, which make it difficult to support a family.

”If you can arrange something for him, that would be ideal. What kind of job do you think suits him best?” Qi Taiguo asked.

Cheng Su thought about it and said, ”I think working as a kitchen helper has potential. If he perseveres, within ten years or so, he could learn from the master chefs and become skilled. Then in the future, whether working for someone else or as a small chef, or even saving up to open a small restaurant, it won’t be a problem!”

She genuinely had Deng Weixia’s best interests at heart.

Qi Taiguo felt a deep sense of complexity in his heart and said, ”Wife, thank you!”

His relatives, every single one like this, yet she didn’t mind and still offered help where needed.

”What are you thanking me for?” Cheng Su said, looking down at her belly. ”I also feel sorry for the two kids; I can’t let them suffer, can I? Just consider this as accumulating blessings for the baby!”
