Beast Taming: the More the Better

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Combined Attack Technique? Are We Still Fighting? (Four More for Votes)

Zhou Shuchen was stunned; he had truly intended only to mock Su Ping with his remark.

After all, how could such a high-level Contracted Beast be summoned? If Su Ping’s Contracted Beast had reached this level, why would he use a rented Pet Beast to fight him?

That clearly didn’t make sense!

And it wasn’t scientific either.

But the moment Su Ping nodded in agreement and the summoning light vanished, the proud Forest Wolf that appeared by Su Ping’s side was of the exact same size as the previous one!

What was even stranger and more bizarre was the color of this Forest Wolf’s fur—it was significantly more lustrous than that of other Forest Wolves.

What kind of creature was this?

Was it really a Forest Wolf?

And it went without saying that among these people, the most eye-catching one was indeed Su Ping. At this moment, Su Ping had finally summoned his Pet Beast, instantly drawing the attention of the other students.

Aside from the others, the moment Zhang Guowei and that youth from the Fire King Company laid eyes upon Xiao Qing, the unique color of its fur elicited an involuntary exclamation from them:

”A mutated Pet Beast!”

Clearly, their words finally made everyone understand what this oddly colored Forest Wolf was.

”A mutated Pet Beast? I heard that they’re very rare and valuable.”

”That’s not necessarily the case. It depends on the direction of the mutation and whether there is any potential for growth. However, generally speaking, they are definitely more valuable than ordinary Pet Beasts!”

”No wonder Su Ping refused Director Zhang’s recommendation. The value of a mutated Forest Wolf might not be lower than that of a Commander Level Pet Beast, right?”

The exclamations around him were one thing, but what truly left Zhou Shuchen unable to react at this moment was the size of this Forest Wolf.

The size of this mutated Forest Wolf was no different from the previous one—did this mean...

Before he could ponder further, the pair of twin Beast Tamers had already started urging, ”Could you make way, please.”

Everyone then realized and stepped aside, opening up a path to the nearby training arena.

The twin brothers were about the same age as the rest of them, but their Realm and level of Beast Taming were a bit higher; they were obviously students from a key Basic Academy within Linzhou.

The need for sparring partners ranging from Fifth to Seventh Rank was proof enough of that.

Moreover, in a certain sense, since the brothers were two Beast Tamers controlling Pet Beasts, compared to sparring Pet Beasts without a Tamer’s enhancement, they also had a significant advantage.

However, Su Ping was unconcerned and likewise looked towards the arena with great interest.

Xiao Qing and the little one, aside from Old Sha, were the only two Forest Wolves that had completed the Heart of Woods cultivation, and they were also rivals that constantly challenged each other.

But this time, that they were unexpectedly going to join forces in battle also made Su Ping quite curious.

However, to Su Ping’s surprise, after the twin brothers entered the arena and exchanged glances, the Pet Beasts they summoned were unexpected.

It was none other than a pair of Forest Wolves!

And their size was no different from his own Forest Wolves.

”Go!”

The brothers hardly hesitated; their two Forest Wolves rapidly charged towards Xiao Qing and the little one, one leading and the other following.

Their speed was one thing, but what really piqued Su Ping’s interest was the coordination between the two Forest Wolves.

Clearly, the brothers were not just showing off in front of Miss Yin, the school belle.

They truly had some skills.

The synergy in the combat of the two Forest Wolves was so captivating that Su Ping couldn’t look away.

Wolf packs are inherently adept at peak teamwork.

But with a Tamer’s cultivation, an individual’s strength vastly improved. Hence, this combat method tended to disappear once they became Pet Beasts.

However, these two brothers were different.

Their two Forest Wolves, one in front and the other behind, one to the left and the other to the right, coordinated almost perfectly.

Especially since Xiao Qing and the little one’s coordination paled in comparison to their opponents, Xiao Qing, unable to quickly join the fight, immediately found itself at a disadvantage!

”AWOO!”

The little one’s body grew larger. The accelerated growth had a multiplying effect, boosting its strength and speed, and suddenly the Forest Wolf that had been entangled with it was completely overpowered.

However, the other Forest Wolf had already moved up to take its place.

This combinatory attack technique wasn’t any particular Skill, but it often proved more practical than the Skills Pet Beasts usually favored.

Interesting! Truly interesting.

Su Ping felt as if he had been captivated by some rare treasure.

A spark seemed to flash through his mind in that instant. It was just a preliminary idea, though, and to truly perfect it, continuous training would be necessary.

But Su Ping felt an indescribable joy in his heart; he was like a parched sponge, eagerly taking in the sight of the combinatory attack technique unfolding before him—crude as it actually was, its coordination was nonetheless perfect.

The little one and those rented Forest Wolves had been instructed by Su Ping to prolong the fight as much as possible; after all, people had paid money for training, so battling a bit longer would also ease his conscience.

Unfortunately, unlike the little one, Xiao Qing didn’t have such a good temper.

Although it didn’t like the little one, the little one was still its rival. Seeing its rival being ganged up on like this, while those two sly Forest Wolves avoided engaging Xiao Qing directly, instead dodging it to prioritize the little one first...

This made Xiao Qing very indignant! Did they consider me less of a threat than that other guy?

Thus, Xiao Qing erupted!

”AOOW...”

Empowered by the terrifying Heart of the Poison Wood, its Poison Vine Strangulation—already vastly different from the regular Vine Strangling of other Forest Wolves—caused purple, coiling vines to burst from the ground, seemingly condensing out of thin air.

Like purple vipers, they swiftly coiled around their target.

Their speed surpassed even the running speed of these two Forest Wolves, whose own speed had clearly been enhanced!

”AOO...”

An excited howl resounded as one of the twins’ Forest Wolves had its paw instantly entwined by the vines.

If these were just regular vines, perhaps the Forest Wolf could have freed itself using strength and Skills.

Unfortunately, these were vines enhanced by the Heart of the Poison Wood.

They not only entangled but also delivered a potent, paralyzing poison!

As expected, less than three seconds after being entangled, the Forest Wolf, which could still move its feet, suddenly stiffened. After stretching its legs, it toppled with a THUMP onto the dueling platform, under everyone’s astonished gaze.

Now facing a two-on-one, the remaining Forest Wolf didn’t last more than ten seconds.

With Xiao Qing’s deployment of Poison Vine Strangulation, the tables turned rapidly.

From the little one being overwhelmed and on the verge of being eliminated first, they snatched an unexpected victory. From start to finish, the entire exchange took less than thirty seconds!

The medical staff hurried onto the platform, picked up the two Forest Wolves, and administered two antidotes before saying to the anxious twin Beast Tamers, ”It’s a bodily paralyzing poison. They just need to rest for a while; there’s no other danger. Don’t worry.”

The twin Beast Tamers finally let out a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, the other onlookers who had watched this particular Pet Beast battle from start to finish had incredibly complex expressions.

A mutated Forest Wolf, and its mutation is the rare Poison Type!

No wonder Su Ping wasn’t interested in that Crimson Claw Centipede.

Just then, the medical staff member brought over the now-awake Crimson Fang Tiger, handing it to Zhou Shuchen, who was completely dumbfounded.

Zhou, the squad leader, looked at Chi Yun in his arms. Although the Crimson Fang Tiger had been unconscious, it was just as indignant about the unfair fight its master had informed it about.

It had felt its master’s fighting spirit through the Soul Contract. Now fully recovered, the little Crimson Fang Tiger was valiant and eager, ready to fight once more to avenge its master’s honor!

Zhou Shuchen glanced again at the strange, viridian Forest Wolf—whose body was no smaller than the previous wolves and was even capable of controlling those terrifying poison vines—and then at its contemptuous, proud gaze and its smug, disdainful wolf howl.

Zhou, the squad leader, fell silent.

And, as if to rub salt in the wound, Li Shusheng at the side piped up, seemingly afraid others wouldn’t hear, ”Zhou, are you and Su Ping going to continue fighting?”

Instantly, all eyes focused on Zhou Shuchen.

Right, were they still going to fight?
