Beast Taming: Becoming a Bug-type Elite Four Member Starting with Silkworm Raising

Chapter 17 Contract with the Great Sword MantisChapter 17 Contract - Da Dao Mantis

After missing a hit, the big mantis was not in a hurry to attack again. It waved its jagged blade arm at Ayou several times as a demonstration, and then turned its attention to Russell.

The strange thing is that Russell did not feel any hostility when he was suddenly stared at by a wild pet. Instead, from the dark green compound eyes of this big praying mantis, he read a feeling of expecting to be recognized.

After briefly looking at each other, Russell saw its detailed information through the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent.

”Big Sword Mantis

Attribute: Bug

Bloodline Level: Silver
Life energy level: Level

Skills: Stereoscopic Vision, Blade Arm

Growth progress: 23%

Among them, insect energy accounts for 18%, rock energy accounts for 4%, and steel energy accounts for 1%.
Ability development: Alloy claws (not yet understood, claw strike proficiency 100%, metal hardening proficiency 4%)”

The Great Sword Mantis is a pet beast with pure insect attributes. Relying on the silver-level bloodline, the mature Mantis can generally reach level three or above. They have excellent vision and are particularly sensitive to moving targets. The serrations on their blade arms can cause tearing. With the cracking effect, it is one of the races with higher combat effectiveness among the officially recorded insect beasts.

It has to be said that the description of Big Sword Mantis in the ”Beast Control Encyclopedia” is very clever in language skills - it has high combat effectiveness, but only if it is compared to ”an insect-type pet beast”.

In fact, the sword mantis’ blade arm that lacks enhanced skills is easily injured in a frontal confrontation. It usually uses forest camouflage to hunt other weaker creatures in an ambush.

…It’s better to just say it’s mediocre.

Russell complained silently.

The attributes of this broadsword mantis are typical of a mature third-level pet beast, and its two skills are also natural and conventional skills of the race.

The only thing worth noting is the abnormal rock and steel energy in its body, as well as its full claw attack proficiency.

Except for a few races that live in mining areas or underground, most insect-type beasts feed on animals and plants. Typical carnivorous beasts like the mantis that live in forest areas usually do not eat soil.

The reason why it eats food that is not suitable for itself is probably to understand the steel-type skill ”Alloy Claw”.

After reading Da Dao Mantis’ information, Russell had a suspicion in his mind.

It is very likely that it saw the process of Ayou comprehending rare skills just now, and felt that the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent was of great benefit to the growth of insect-type pets, so it wanted to come and hug it?

If you speculate this way, Daodao Mantis’s attack on Ayou was probably to prove his strength to Russell.

”You want to challenge Ayou?”

With doubts, Russell asked it.

Sa——

I don’t know if the broadsword mantis understood it, but it still responded by waving its blade arm.

Thinking that Ayou really needed an actual battle to adapt to the newly learned skills, Russell sent it an order to accept the challenge.

”Ayou, let’s have a free battle until the point is reached.”

Free battle refers to a battle in which the beast master does not take command and allows the pet beast to perform freely.

Wild beasts fight based on instinct. Ayou has the advantage of flying and is superior to the sword mantis in terms of skills. If he still directs from the side, this battle will probably become no suspense.

…………

Due to the previous alarm issued by the accompanying mechanical bird, all the soldiers stationed in the monitoring room of the NO. 13 security area were paying close attention to Russell’s every move.

But they did not stop Russell from letting Ayou fight Daodao Mantis.

Part-time personnel are indeed not allowed to attack wild beasts, but counterattacks when attacked are not included in this. The training ground has been too quiet these days, and the soldiers stationed are happy to watch this battle.

The UFO Hawkmoth fights against the Broadsword Mantis. In a regular competition, such a combination is probably rare to see once in more than ten years.

call--!
Ayou happened to be out of temper by the sudden attack just now. After receiving the order, it flew towards the Big Sword Mantis without saying a word.

During the flight, it used its butterfly shadow again, turning into five indistinguishable phantoms.

At the same time, surging ghost energy began to gather between Ayou’s wings, which was the Nether Explosion skill it had just mastered.

The mantis lacks long-range attack methods and does not have the excellent jumping ability of the devil dog. Faced with the danger of being targeted by energy attacks, it chose to climb up the nearby ancient trees and flap its pair of membrane wings to quickly glide through the forest. But the tactic of the broadsword mantis is not simply to escape. It always stares at the phantom in the sky with its compound eyes that are good at capturing dynamics.

The actual combat experience accumulated since childhood and growing up in the wild tells it that strong energy attacks basically have obvious vacuum periods. As long as they dodge the first attack, they can find opportunities to counterattack.

After four and a half seconds, Ayou finally completed the energy accumulation for the first Nether Explosion in Zongsheng.

hum-

As the skill was charged up, a ball of ghost energy with a diameter of more than one meter suddenly appeared next to Daodao Mantis, sweeping towards it with a strange buzzing sound.

Concealment and treacherousness are the characteristics of ghost-type skills. It only took a second from the appearance of this ball of energy to the explosion. Even though Dao Dao Mantis was already prepared to dodge, the explosion was still affected by one of its hind legs.

Slight trauma was not enough to make the wild beast lose its fighting spirit. The mantis endured the pain, flapped its wings, and flew towards Ayou’s five phantoms at the best angle.

Swish-!
This attack destroyed three phantoms in one fell swoop, but unfortunately it still failed to hit the real Ayou.

Missing the rare opportunity to attack, Ayou waved its wings, and the five phantoms dispersed again. Its true body was hiding among them, accumulating the next wave of netherworld blasts.

In the forest clearing, green figures and dark gray ghost energy flashed alternately. After several confrontations, Dao Dao Mantis was blown up and was in danger.

sa...

There were several new wounds on the body, and even the wings were blasted with a gap. The mantis could only fall back to the ground and gasp for air, but it did not show any cowardice, and its fighting spirit was even stronger than before.

”Ayou, it’s time to stop.”

Seeing that Ayou, who was enjoying the explosion, was still preparing to continue attacking, Russell quickly issued a ceasefire order.

This battle is just a test of each other’s strength, there is no need to kill each other.

What’s more, this broadsword mantis is quite proficient in actual combat skills, and its indomitable fighting spirit is even rarer.

Moreover, in order to train its alloy claws, it actually gnawed ore with its flesh and blood body, which is enough to show its determination to overcome its innate deficiencies and pursue powerful strength.

It seems good to adopt it as a second pet beast...

But Daodao Mantis didn’t know what Russell was thinking. Seeing that Ayou in the air did not take advantage of the victory and pursue it, he let him go. Daodao Mantis only knew that he had lost, and he had lost quite completely.

The winner is the king and the loser is the bandit. The strong is respected. The survival rules in the wild are so straightforward and cruel. Dragging its stumbling hind legs, it walked back into the dense forest a little lonely.

Dadao Mantis never expected that this human beast master, who was very powerful in its eyes, would actually send him an invitation to sign a beast control contract.

”Wait...are you willing to sign a beast-controlling contract with me?”

”I can let you learn alloy claws and many other powerful skills.”

In fact, Russell could have asked Ayou to knock the big sword mantis to the ground, and then forcefully sign a contract with it in its weak state.

However, after thinking about it, he still chose to respect Dadao Mantis’s wishes.

With the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent, Russell never worried about not meeting a pet with suitable attributes and talents.

But what he really wants to find is a partner to become stronger and fight side by side, not a trapped beast that succumbs to the constraints of the beast-controlling space.

……

Seeing the scene unfolding next to the foggy forest through the surveillance screen, several garrison soldiers who were watching the excitement were filled with surprise.

All attributes of mature beasts have been formed, and potential exploration has reached a bottleneck. Unless they encounter some rare and powerful races, few beast masters will contract an adult pet.

Not to mention contracting an insect-type pet beast that has reached maturity and has been evaluated by the industry as ”lack of breeding value”.

The first pet beast is the UFO Hawkmoth, and the second pet beast is the Broadsword Mantis. Is this guy crazy?

However, the UFO Hawkmoth’s combat effectiveness is really good. The combination of using phantom skills to cover and release Nether Explosion is eye-catching, and its strength is stronger than some legion recruits.

Could it be that this guy has some secret to breeding insect-type pets?

Under the strange looks of the garrisoned soldiers, the milky white light flickered on and off several times. Daodao Mantis leaned down and turned into white light and entered Russell’s beast control space.
